God I hope this trade gets done tomorrow because this thread is going nowhere!
Just an aside will taunting West Coast fans and drawing ass signs (!) prompt a Yellow Card when the deal gets done for 28?

Once we get 28 im we will be doing backflips and outing Ebert for the spud he is. ;)

Id accept 28. It's probably just short of value but given the volume of middle paced grunts from Victoria going in the Phantoms im sure a few decent players will fall to that pick. :thumbsu:

Alright, lets step back a minute.

Ebert is not as bad as Port fans, especially the ranting PB make him out to be nor is he worth as much as some Eagles fans belive him to be. (Pick 15's a bit much hey)

The reality is that he is only 21, hard bodied, a great mark and versatile. He would fit well into Ports line up rotating through the midfield and half forward. He is pretty much an upgrade on the other Ebert, only much younger, taller and with better leadership potential.

He's not worth 15 on his own, nor would 28 be enough. You won't have as safe a bet to make 200 games at around pick 30 than Ebert.

From an Eagles perspective, I'd like to secure Pearce somehow but doubt it.
I'd propose Ebert + 45 for Newton + 28.
Newton a mid 30s pick in another compromised draft, so effectivly Ebert for a pick in the late 20's and a 10 pick upgrade in the second round of an uncompromised draft.

He would be a top 5 pick if he could kick, gained a burst of speed, became a ball magnet, and had an x-factor game breaking potential.

Right now he's a slow player that butches his kicks and gets games because he was a poor first round draft choice and has Ebert on his surname.

Classic post of have not seen him play and just read shit off the internet to form opinion. Oh dear.

Good, balanced post - Port would be reluctant to give up Newton though. None of us have seen him play and few seem to have prior to him being drafted, on account of his continued run with injury.

But whenever coaches or players from Port have talked about the potential of young guys on our list, Newton has been spoken of with high praise.

As everyone knows, we currently have a midfield group that is short on quality, short on potential high-end quality and short on depth. Not a great state to be in. While Brad Ebert would help in the depth department, people are still hopeful that Newton could become a midfielder of much higher inside-outside quality. It would be too much of a risk to give him away after one underexposed and untested year on our list.

The way i see it Eagles will be wanting pick 28, however i expect Port to play hard ball and only offer pick 33. One of these picks will be what is traded for Ebert nothing else will be added on or included unless M.Clark is involved.

I think your selling your midfield a little short, especially in regards to high end talent. I'm of the opinion that Boak, Hartlett and Gray could very well become elite midfielders. Hartlett in particular I'd take before any player on our list bar Nic Nat, Kennedy and Mckenzie. I'd rate him the best young mid in the comp. Super classy.

Ebert will add to the quality list as well as the depth list, without doubt. You guys will realise that in due time.
Newton however I'm not so sure about. If injury free, I believe he'd belong in the same bracket. Although he's not as safe a bet as Ebert, if only for durability. Newton most likely won't add to your high end talent.

Interesting - you would have possibly seen Newton a bit at WAFL colts level. I can't say I've seen any of him except his 2 min highlights package when he was first drafted.

Most Port people would endorse your opinion about Hartlett, but it's been frustrating that his development curve has stuttered a bit due to injury.

The potential to be elite is clearly there with Gray and Boak, but Boaky stagnated a bit in a poor side in 2011 and Gray hasn't yet shown the capacity to play in the midfield for long enough to get high possession numbers.

We're still two A-grade midfielders short from feeling comfortable that we have the right mix in there, either in the short or long-term.

I think Port will be willing to give up 28.

I also think 28 will end up as a better player in this year's draft.

And people need to stop telling me I'm underrating him. He's going to look like or will be seen as one of the worst players in the league in a bottom 4 side like ours.

Maybe in 3 years when we build a formidable midfield that he'll look like a good AFL player as there will be more room for clangers.

WCE fans just wan't the best deal we can get. A lot of PA fans mentioning what he isn't worth as he is a dud. This dud will be at PA next year.

WCE can't lose.

Neale Daniher has asked Port Adelaide for pick 6 in order to get Brad Ebert :p. Thats what the papers are saying this morning anyway. If we got pick 6 for Brad Ebert id tug away till I pass out from dehydration

So basically Port will give the Eagles a second chance and take two of their 1st round draft misses?
I think Sheppard will be good, excellent skills just needs to put on a little size, and Ebert will play 150 - 200 games for Port.

If you could guarantee players we draft will be as good if not better, fantastic. When it comes down to it, the draft is like a lottery, albeit a well researched one.

Port need players that can have an impact day one, not picks, or it is going to be a fair way up from where you finished this year. And before you start coming back with 'but the Eagles finished last in 2010', we didn't lose that many matches by large margins. Things can turn around quickly, but players that can have immediate impacts help.

You see the problem is you only remember 2 games. We were still 7% better than Gold Coast. While there is no excuse for losing by so much the draw did us no favours where we played Collingwood and Hawthorn in 2 weeks straight after the Showdown where historically we perform badly the week after.

When we played Geelong earlier in the season we lost by 79pts but 3 clubs did worse than that including Collingwood. The worst blowout we had other than the top 4 teams was 62pts - Sydney at the SCG.

I doubt Port are looking for a quick turnaround we would prefer another premiership in 6-7 years time.

It's nothing like a lottery.

In a lottery, one ticket is as likely to win as any other.

In the draft, pick 1 is more valuable than pick 10, pick 2 more valuable than pick 20, pick 3 more valuable than pick 30 and so on.

The line that "the draft is a lottery" is just another one of those lines that becomes axiomatic this time of year, even though it is palpably bullshit.

So If I go down and purchase a system 25 ticket for tonights lotto its as likely to win as a slippik 12? No. Its exactly like a lotto
