We sent out a message to everyone in the AFL that we will not be ****ed over by anyone. We got a great deal from Freo for Carr and Hawks for Burgoyne.

After we let stevens go in the PSD, no one dared **** us around in trade week. Next season we won the flag, didn't mean anything to us letting him go

Convinced me! Ebert to the PSD!
 
If WC had any balls and wanted to send a message to your players and other clubs, you would have to let him go into the PSD if we offered up 33. Would be a win for both clubs imo, but if we got him for pick 33, wonderful. You don't have any balls and we get Ebert for pretty much nothing, rather than going through the PSD

FAIR CALL: They deserve a pick around 30 for Ebert. Otherwise, the Eagles are expected to place faith in players coming through, including elite talents Andrew Gaff, Luke Shuey, Nic Naitanui and Darling. Brad Sheppard was pick 7 in the 2009 draft and could attract interest.

Still dining out on the Stevens situation. Bet it never happens again. The environment currently is too tough to allow it to. Not about balls, it's about sensible list management.
 
St Kilda had balls they didn't want Wellingham for Luke Ball.. The result? Wellingham has a break out year and helps Collingwood beat St Kilda in a drawn grand final.

If Stevens had got to Collingwood in 2003 they wouldn't have tanked the 2004 season from 2nd to 13th and there would be a chance that we wouldn't have won the flag that year.

The move was a masterstroke. Doesn't mean anything in today's environment except that we have the capacity to tough out difficult situations.
 
Apparently there's a rumour that Freo have some interest in Motlop. If it's true (and it's probably a big if, but by the standards of player that Lyin' usually trades in Motlop may as well be GAJ), how's this for a deal that's more favourable to West Coast but doesn't result in Port losing the PP?

West Coast get: Pick 33 from Port, whatever Freo's second rounder is (38 I think)
West Coast give: Brad Ebert, pick 45 to Port (which they wouldn't use if they had 33 and 38 anyway)

Port give: Motlop + pick 51 to Freo, pick 33 to West Coast.
Port get: Brad Ebert, pick 45 from West Coast.

Freo get: Daniel Motlop, pick 51 from Port
Freo give: Pick 38 to West Coast

Would picks 33 and 38 together be enough for Ebert? And if Freo weren't willing to downgrade that much for Motlop, then they could get West Coast's 45 instead and then give their third rounder to Port or something.

West coast are currently looking at using 2 live picks in this draft so pick 38 is close to pointless at this stage. in essence you are asking to get ebert and get rid of something your club will delist for the grand total of a 12 spot draft pick upgrade for what would normally be a late third rounder to early third rounder in the weakest draft in recent memory.

motlop doesnt need to be involved from west coasts perspective unless its going to get them a better deal and at this stage 28 would be the absolute starting point as a port offer with the eagles starting point of what they want being pick 6. 6 odd days of movement depending on how other deals go.
 
28 is more than fair for Ebert in this compromised draft.

He goes to the PSD and probably goes to GWS and you won't get him.

And he will be a better player than whomever is picked at 28, without a doubt.

Then why the **** do people keep asking for 28 + 33? If you're only using 2 live picks in the draft then 33 wouldn't get used either.

To add to that, if you're only using two live draft picks, then what the hell are Port supposed to do other than give up pick 28? Pick 6 is clearly unreasonable, if you had 28 you wouldn't use any pick you had after that so giving up another one of our picks would be useless, and you don't want any of our expendable players.

Keep up. Both list managers have said that Port only offered 33 at this stage, so that's our absolute starting point. TBH I think it'll get negotiated down to Port just trading 28 (especially if the Eagles will only have 2 picks), but Rhode may be totally unwilling to part with that pick, in which case alternative trades such as the one above have to be looked at (but again, it'll only work if the Eagles are going to use more than 2 picks, and if they're not then it's pointless).
 
Send him to the PSD just to piss him and the power off. They can jam pick 28, 33 whatever.
 
We either intend to take picks 28 and 33 and then pass on 33 in the draft to spite Port.

Or we might want to trade picks 28 and 33 for a higher pick.

Or we might not want 28 and 33 but a single pick higher than 28.
 
His value is clearly more than 28 which port have readily available for trade. IF port are gonna try and be that stingy and screw us that much by not even offering 28 then screw em psd and we can wait in the wings to return the favor when inevitably players want out of one of the basket cases of the AFL.

You drafted an Ebert, don't get mad at him for wanting to go where he belongs. Your club would've known that this was always going to be a significant risk from the moment they called his name out on draft day.

The only pick Port have higher than 28 is 6, which even the most one-eyed Eagles supporter would admit is clearly unreasonable. If Port offer 28 and the Eagles send him to the PSD because they want a higher pick for him, then they're just being pig-headed. If the Eagles are only using two picks and don't want any expendable Port players, Port offering 28 alone isn't screwing the Eagles, it's making the highest offer we can make without giving the Eagles massive overs.

You have pick 28, a list of 44 players and you're in the middle of trade week. You need to end up with a pick higher than 28 to get Ebert.

What do you do?

He's uncontracted, he wants out, he only wants out to Port Adelaide, and if you don't deal with us we could probably get him in the PSD. You don't hold any of the cards.

We certainly don't trade anyone who'd be worth a pick higher than 28 to get someone we could take in the PSD. This isn't Playstation trading where you can screw around with your list until you get the trade exactly right, this is the real world, and in the real world the difference between 28 and a pick between 20-25 which is realistically all the Eagles could ask for isn't worth sending a player to the PSD over.

The only way I could see the Eagles getting something higher is if we could trade Chad, Broges and 28 or 33 to GWS in exchange for pick 25 and then on-trade that to the Eagles for Ebert and picks 45 and 61 (which you guys wouldn't use but we probably would) or something.

Even worse, pick 7 could get you pick 6.

gopower has hit the nail on the head.

We'll probably give up pick 28. He's probably worth a few picks higher but neither Port nor West Coast are going to make a fuss over the difference between pick 23 and pick 28.

If we had 23, I assume we'd probably be happy to give you that, but as we don't have a pick until 28, West Coast will probably accept it.

It's not enough under to be worth sending him into the PSD. It's slightly undervalue.
