Hopefully GWS are into him but we can swing a deal.

Stevenson or Wilson go to GWS as uncontracted player.

Eagles agree to let Ebert go as well.

We get a 1st round compo pick and a 3rd round compo pick.

1st round compo pick goes back to GWS we get O'Meara.:thumbsu:

Ebert + Stevenson + 1 round compo pick for O'Meara.

Not Sure Ebert wants to go to sydney but I am sure Gws would look at him as either uncontracted player or in mini draft considerations.

Wouldn't think too many clubs would be would see him as a midfielder. Played his best footy forward as a goalsneek and should consider staying there.

IF Ebert wants out and IF he really wants to come back to Adelaide, Port or even the Crows are in the box seat as far as trade value.
If no trade can be made and also he doesnt re-sign with WC he could walk to Port at pick 2 in the Preseason draft.
So saying a first round pick would be needed to get him is dreaming...

But with all those IFs, IF i was a betting man i think he'll stay at WC personally

Sure your not thinking of Brett Ebert from Port?

His best footy is as an inside mid but he's been used as a marking HF due to the lack of versatility of guys like priddis not being able to play other roles cutting out his chance of playing his preferred role. Either role at west coast isnt really open to him. As a marking half forward he's behind lecras and darling.

He is worth a first rounder and is very talented in his preferred position. Needs to work on his kicking under pressure and needs a solid run through the centre. Would complement ports midfield nicely but is not worth pick 6 and port dont have a pick that west coast would be interested in.

Easily worth between pick 10 and 20. Kid can play and is still young and has solid leadership skills. Just don;t think he is needed at WCE anymore.

Wouldn't mind Surjan being involved somehow.

ebert is the epitome of average player.

not outstanding in any one area. good in some areas and poor in others.

has always been a good size physically, and is a good competitor. looks very likely to be at or near his peak, not alot of upside or development appears likely.

is no longer played on the ball but has been played as a flanker.

is currently somewhere in the 16th-26th range at his club.

no way is he worth a first round pick.

footskills have become hugely important in the modern game, and are an area primus has targeted as where port needs to improve. this is one of eberts biggest weaknesses. you want a player that can be damaging with their disposal, it has been well noted that ebert at his best will not do to much damage to his own team with his disposal. as in any kick that isnt a direct turnover is a good outcome. those standards expected of him tell you about his delivery by foot, and this is him as he has improved.

west coast fans will be quick to tell you he is being played out of position, and will be a good inside mid. well i saw west coast struggling last year without kerr and with ebert spending time in the middle and he did not set the world on fire. was noted for burning the ball and this year has mainly been ejected from the midfield and most west coast fans have seen this as an improvement.

at port adelaide he would be behind boak, grey, cassisi, hartlett, pearce and pittard in the middle. guys like jacobs, newton and moore are highly rated have much more upside and will be given more chances than him as well. will likely be battling with salopek, banner, broadbent, thomas, rodan and irons for a spot before we even head to the draft. so at best might be in the 7th-12th midfielder on our list but more likely to be in the 9th- 15th range. that doesnt exactly scream value for 1st round pick. nor does it suggest that he will get alot of time in the middle.

if he hadnt been taken as a pick around the top 10 he would never be mentioned as a first rounder during trade speculation. never.

to be honest west coast fans would probably be right in suggesting that our 2nd round pick is fair.

if i had any pull at the club though my vote would be no.

*he is not what we need. if anything we have boak, grey and cassisi who are good in tight players, we need gut runners who can deliver very well by foot. we have plenty of similar players already fighting for a spot in our 22.

*his type are very easy to acquire through drafting, with late picks or as early picks that didnt come as good as you hoped

* players with average disposal and average speed but very good competitors are very easily accessible through mature aged pick-ups as these are the types that slip through the draft and go to wafl/sanfl/ vfl. any avid sanfl watcher could probably name half a dozen or more guys who have very similar traits to ebert and even if they may only be ( subjectively) 70% 80% or 90% of what he is will cost us our psd pick.

* the game has moved so as to highlight his weaknesses. we know this as we see very good players age and just lose that turn of speed or players that have been very good for a long time but kicking is not their strength go from the game much earlier than expected.

I'd say roughly pick 20-25 would be about right if we had it. Our first rounder is way, way too high.

Maybe our pick 28 and a swapping of later picks in the Eagles favour. I feel like we'd be slightly ripping you off, but unless a player is involved I can't see how else it would get done.

I'm hoping we don't give you Surjan.

i'm not really fussed either way.

if he learns to kick, he'll be a good player.

for the time being...eh

It is amazing (and amusing) to see how opinions change.

Until now, WCE fans have been offering Ebert up in all sorts of trades. They did not rate him or want him.

Now he wants out and suddenly.... he is a gun, worth a 1st rounder, blah blah.

Not just WCE fans, all clubs do this. Amusing to see.

Anyway, early 2nd rounder. Port's 2nd round pick would be handy for the Eagles, Port would love to have another Ebert. Just do it. Nobody else will be falling over themselves to get him.

This is what he is worth and probably what will happen. Id say we would be after any compensation picks that you recieve from Brogan/Cornes as the sweetener rather than late picks (I know these will be late compensation picks but they are more valuable than 3rd round/4th round etc picks this year).

i think you'll find most west coast eagles fans think a pick between 10-20 is reasonable with the latter reaches of said range being the mark. This would be an early second rounder in a normal year. Funny that.

20-30 maybe, 10-20, no.

West Coast fans overrate him. Port would be his obvious destination but their earlier picks are like gold to them at the moment... and I don't think Port has anything WC needs as far as a player swap.

IF he is traded, I doubt any WC fan will be happy with the deal.
