Ridiculous how they think Ebert will end up at Port when they have the second PSD pick anyway.

Very much doubt Ebert would go PSD , WCE are reportedly shattered he has quit the club . WE have been good to Ebert and have employed his Dad as a P/T recruitment officer in SA for the past three seasons , evidently last week we employed a full time person to oversee SA recruitment ,...... obviously it wasn't Brads Dad :o

Potential 3 way trade if Griffen wants to head to Port. Not trying to say it's fair, just throwing it out there for some feedback on winners/losers and for general criticism.

Port gain: Ebert, Griffen, 45, 63
Port lose: 28, 33, 51

Eagles gain: 33, 38
Eagles lose: Ebert, 45, 63

Dockers gain: 28, 51
Dockers lose: 38, Griffen

That's not the worst trade idea I've seen.

If all the talk about Griff and Port being in love is true, then the PSD may well come into play for Ebert. While I believe clubs try to work these things out sensibly, Port are not in the business of making other clubs happy. If they can get an out of contract Ebert in the PSD and a contracted Griff through trade, it allows them to keep an early pick.

I guess it depends on whether it's just a fling with Griff, or if they have picked out curtains.

I don't think I'd trade 28 and 33 for Brad.

I think we'll get Ebert for 28 and even then I think 33 is more realistic. I think it's more likely Griffin might go to the PSD with Freo's unrealistic expectations. Personally I hope we don't get him. Play the young guys and get a mature aged rookie ruckman who can play if one of them goes down.

The messages you hear from the media and from Port aren't consistent. Port are saying they want to get games into Redden how do we do that if we get Griffin?

There is speculation Port could pick up Longer at 6 - why would we get Griffin if Longer is on the radar?

because longer wont be ready for 3-4 years. look at all the early first round ruckman who have been taken in the draft in years past. those without support who get played too early have their careers severely hindered and affected by injury.

Zac Smith???

Natinui???

Zac Smith???
He is 21/22 and had already played a season of VFL, hardly an 18 year old draftee. Leuenberger would be a better example to compare to, and he has only started hitting his straps in the past 2 seasons.

And NicNat wasn't holding down 1st ruck in his first season, and only started becoming consistent this season (his 3rd).

Griff is contracted, so the only thing for certain is that he will not be in the PSD.

It's gonna be a tough trade to get over the line. Ebert is probably worth a pick around 20ish. He was a top 10'er but hasn't lived up to it. He's still young and still going to be a decent footballer but he certainly isn't around the top 10 mark anymore.

Then who do we have to give that the Eagles may want because it's pretty obvious they wont accept a straight pick 28 for Ebert. We have Surjan who may be on the trade table, and if he is that'd be almost a straight swap maybe with a 3rd-4th round pick from Port. D Stewart is a promising key forward that may be on the trade table in a 3 club swap, he'd again almost be a straight swap with probably a 3rd round pick at most. I can't see anyone else on the Port list that is of value. Kane Cornes may be thrown around but that remains to be seen. Pearce wont go anywhere and any talk of it is crap.

I think it's gonna end up being a 3 way deal to get port something extra to add some value to our pick 28.

Else we'll have to try securing him through the PSD.

im going to give some clarification here for you guys.

1. ebert wont be going in the psd as i am 100% certain he holds the club with much higher regard than that and the eagles have a history of making sure a fair trade gets done.

2. the eagles wont be accepting of picks 28 or 33 on their own. dispute it all you like but it wont be happening. this draft is quality for a about 15 picks, then its a lucky dip until about pick 30-35 and blind freddy would have as much success as the best recruiters after that.

3. the eagles will be looking at using 2, maybe 3 draft picks in this draft so any talk of 3rd round draft picks is pointless.

4. the eagles are looking to fill a couple of list holes with established players over the offseason. whether that is through trades or through seconds league players we'll see.

Believe me or not this is how it will happen and while ebert wont go down as a superstar player or a player with flair i would be willing to take any money that he will be in the top 10 players from the 2007 draft in games played once they reach the end of their careers.

Longterm i very much expect him to have a similar career to lingy and anybody suggesting the chances are likely of getting a better player with a pick outside 20 in the weakest draft of the professional drafting era are kidding themselves.

Any sources for any of this or just pure speculation?

28 won't be enough. 28+33 is too much as we need the second pick to stock up.

I still think Surjan and 33 is fair, but Surjan has so many different ratings is hard to tell. I guess it's up to the clubs vision.

i dont mind surjan...but we already have mcginnity.

Problem with our second picks is that we need them.

Out brogan, cornes, motlop, motlop, Meyer

In ebert plus 4 draft picks currently 6, 28,33 and 50ish

Give up a second rounder and we will really be picking dregs or maybe someone in psd. Even if we give Surjan we still have to find an additional under 50 pick. So maybe it will go

Surjan, pick 33
Ebert, pick 45

Well I can't see the club offering both pick 28 AND pick 33. Its one or the other...or the PSD. Deal with it.

Any sources for any of this or just pure speculation?

lol, the guy doesn't have a clue

Brogan and Cornes were on the vets list. Cassisi can replace one but you don't have a second eligible player. So that's one less spot.

Griffin could take another, and you may elevate one or both of Jonas or Irons.

OK so we have Lobbe who will be 23 next year and also Redden who will be 22 next year who we need to get games into next year. Why would we bring in an average ruckman who is going to get in the way of their development and also pay the earth for him when he has shown very little (3 good games for Freo is not enough to start demanding high draft picks).
Put 2 years of playing into Lobbe and he's going to better than Griffin is now.

It's not as though Port are going to be shooting for finals action next year we are developing a team for the future.

Seems to me people from the West have got a lame duck who's not going to get a game there and they want something for nothing.

...and I still think he's better than Maric

Wait a minute this thread is about Ebert 28 that's what he's worth. I rate Gunston high teens and I think Ebert 28 is consistent with that. Gunston 2 years younger and has shown at least what Ebert has in terms of skills and results.

Unfortunately for the Eagles all the bargaining power is with Port.

Carlton found out about it last year when Sam Jacobs wanted to go home to Adelaide. You can bargain all you like but at the end of the day you either let him go into the PSD or take what port want to offer.
