Think I said this on another thread, it's all about benchmarking and I guess the first trade sets the benchmark. For instance if the first trade is Gunston for Pick 24 then I think Ebert for 28 is probably too much and it should be 33.
However I think it will be Pick 28 that gets the deal done.
With that in mind that makes Griffin worth something in the 40's and Maric in the 50's or 60's.

Think you've lost it.
Griffin is worth more than Ebert, don't confuse where they we drafted/traded for as being an accurate reflection of their abilities.

ebert will end up being a lot like a cross between cameron ling and brad sewell. If this was the 08 or 2010 draft then i'd be reasonably happy with a pick around 20-25 for him. This year the depth of quality prospects just isn't there. This year i think our current pick 23 is worth stuff all let alone pick 28 or 33.

in looks yes, but as a player????

Like Ball did last year?

The player can choose which draft they enter. Obviously he'd enter the PSD as Port have the second or third pick depending on whether or not GWS use all their National Draft picks or not.

Much better chance of getting to where he wants.

So wrong.

I think the issue here is you've probably seen him play a handful of games while we've watched him play for 5 or 6 season for the Crows and Central Districts in the SANFL. 3 good games all of a sudden doesn't make an average player into something more.

Others may disagree but I think he is worth Port's priority pick. He'll play wing or on a flank for a couple of more seasons before becoming an A grade midfielder I think. At this stage of his career I don't think he has too many runs on the board and the Crows don't seem all that keen.

I think this scenario values draft picks too highly.

Depends on how good your recruiting team is. The beauty of a draft pick is that you can potentially pick up a 250 game player with a draft pick while if you pick up a guy who's 25 at the very most you'll get 150. If he's 21 yo you might get 200 at best.
So 12 years ago in 1999 here are some plus 30 draft choices

31 Chapman
32 Giansiracusa
34 Davis
38 Ling
40 Hille
43 Gilbee
47 Enright
48 Bateman
56 O'Keefe
62 Johnson
64 Bruce
73 Houlahan

All of these guys must have played over 200 games and while there are plenty of misses as well if you pick an experienced player you are limiting your ability to pick up long-term players to your club.

I think he's worth 28 as well and that's what he'll be traded for but I don't think he's worth more due to dodgy kicking and some questionable decision making. But you know hopefully the deficiencies in his game can be fixed and he'll certainly be a midfielder in our team at this stage.

Would eagles trade Ebert for Brent Macaffer? Mid season reports were that the Eagles were keen on him as a small/medium forward to release Le Cras into the midfield.

Pies can then trade him to Port or Adelaide

no they wouldnt.

You seem quite adamant on that, are you in the know or just guessing.

A known commodity who is a premiership player against pick 28 in a shallow draft.

If the phantom drafts are 50% correct Westcoast will end up with a player of "higher quality" and with more potential with pick 28.

Pick 33 and then a swap of 3rd round picks should be fair

Its a tad port favoured but i think Port have to power to do that

Port also have the power to win apparently.
