Right at the bottom of the list to get a senior game i think, he is also the youngest though. In a team full of injured or desperate 21 year olds to get a gig I would but hartman in to the 'don't know yet' basket until at least next year. From the VFL I've seen he has done a couple of good things but not a standout by any stretch.

Was he? I heard he had a very good first quarter at least.

Jester, I was there and I would suggest that he had a reasonable 1st 1/4 and he did get onto one and score a goal. But it was one 1/4.
In my book that is "ordinary".

Don't know how he went against Collingwood last week, but when I watched the Werribee game he was hardly sighted, so playing at least one good quarter is an improvement for him.

Exactly.

He has a good athletic quality about him and a good engine but his football skills and nous leave a fair bit to be desired.

I don't doubt that Walker is a limited footballer. With our lack of depth/lack of durability of key position talls and rucks he is the sort of guy I would want to keep around for cover at a minimum. That means he would need to be promoted at the end of the year, and again if that's the case, with Hartman signed for two, that squeezes someone else out if it eventuates.

Let's face it he's a kid who hasn't played a lot of footy, and is now coming up week in week out against seasoned bodies in the second best league in the country.

The thing I like is most times when he has the ball, which is not often as he struggles to get from contest to contest, is that he uses it well and has shown real class at times.

To me drafting him was the right thing as it gives him a bit of security and confidence which is what he needs as It looks like he will need every day of those 2 years and then some.

Obviously they don't all make it but I can just hear people saying 'where did this one come from' as he hits his straps in a couple of years. Has the tools, just depends if he wants to do the work.

Theres a few blokes around here that like to slit the throat quick on new and old players.
99percent of the time it bites there FAT arse!

Scott said he was a project player when we drafted him.So lets sit back let him mature and watch him grow into a Wells late pick gem.

he did a couple of things at Windy Hill - i spoke Neil Balme about him on Saturday at the game. balmey said that Brad has amazing skill and is a beautiful height. But his tank is miles off AFL. he's come from playing SANFL U18's to playing VFL against guys that have 5 - 10 AFL preseasons under their belt. And it shows. At one point he ran into open space and spilled a really basic mark. On first glance he looked hopeless, but then watching him, he was just completely fatigued. He just isnt fit. So Balmeys comments were "if he really works hard, does extra sessions and takes this opportunity, he could be as good as Motlop" but he needs to do the work. That said Balmey also said hes a great kid and is aware of what an amazing opportunity being drafted to geelong is, so they are hopeful he'll do the work and make it in the end.

So let him get through the year and then smash another huge preseason into him and see where he's at. Hamling is apparently now finally starting to look like a player, 18 moths in...

Great info. Thanks!

From what has been written - I will wait for maybe 2 seasons to see if this speculative pick works out.

No rush we have so many otehr to trial out in the seniors - its not like we need him to show a lot just yet.

Just would be good to see him have a few good games in the VFL in the next 12 months. Good enough for me.

quality post well said mate

got to say. was cool getting to chat with balmey. Great man. And great to see our big director of football sitting alone watching the 2's intently. Thats why we are the best.

Lol Balmey is alright. I remember a game at Craigieburn when Hawk was dropped and I was telling him to get a farking kick. Balmey sat there laughed and just said 'wait and see'
