Was always gonna cost a lot but Bells crap at the start of the trade period allowed us to get Howard and Ryder too.
Starting with pick 6 and 59, I think we’ve done really well this off season.
Enjoy Acres!
You really need to drop the "Bell crap" narrative - no one has any idea what happened in that room apart from the players in there ( oh and you and Tom Morris apparently )

In terms of the trade I think Bell absolutely schooled Gags. He played it beautifully. Bringing up acres late was a master stroke.

However in terms of the overall impact on your list management I think the saints won out here.

The moment brad hill nominated st kilda, the saints had won.

The problem freo have is they've lost two wingers for a side that's trying to win a flag in the short term whilst fyfe and Walters are still there. Mundy is 35 next year. Fyfe is 29 next year. Conca is depth. Brayshaw is a talent up and coming mid but needs time. Cerra is a while off and hasn't settled into the midfield. So really it looks like the midfield is in its twilight era. Acres and aish will not address this with both more settled to either 50. Draft picks do not help this. Any player taken will take 4 years minimum to become an A grade mid. So if the midfield is in a decline it may make the Hogan and lobb etc. Acquisitions now redundant as they may not be around when the next generation midfield comes through.

So the trade is may be good for freos long term future depending on who they draft but it hurts their short term. It's one of those line in the sand moments where you can see the end of the current and the start of the rebuild for the next generation.

Hogan is 23, Lobb 26, Hamling 26, Pearce 23, Darcy 21, Taberner 26, Cox 20, Logue 20. Our spine is fairly settled for 5+ years. Any midfielders drafted now will be elite by the time our spine are veterans. Walters and Fyfe will be twilight. Our window isn’t centred on Fyfe. It’s the midfield we are building now to complement the spine. Fyfe to lead them and show them the ropes and hopefully reap the rewards late career. Not dissimilar to Pav.

Hogan’s 25 in a few months, still young mind you.

Bell confirmed the first offer was 6 and a future third and StKilda knew it wouldn’t be enough.
Peter Bell nailed it - in the face off streams of rubbish being spewed by morons in the media which was gobbled up as gospel by many people here.
Played the process perfectly, shut up, kept his head down and got out of it what he needed to.

Now with that future 2nd and future 4th given to Collingwood for james aish, future 3rd and pick 69.....

Freo need to nail that pick 10, 58 and hope Acres becomes good.

Why isn't Aish and the Collingwood picks included, we did use picks we got direct from the Hill trade afterall...

Like how St Kilda got pick 10, a F4th, Ryder and Howard from picks 6, 59 and a F3rd!

So basically we traded Brad Hill and a 2020 3rd rounder for Blake Acres, Picks 10 and 58, James Aish, future 3rd and pick 69.

Something like that.

We got Hill, Howard, Jones, Butler and Ryder, by giving up pick 6, a second rounder and a couple of GOP'S.

Reckon Freo 'won' the trade, but Saints achieved what we wanted overall.

Everyone smiling at 7.30 last Wednesday.

P.S. hope Blake kills for you. We couldn't get the best out of him. Sometimes a change of club brings out that potential.

Saints supporters should be stoked the last few years there hasn’t been much excitement on the field besides Fyfe hill and Walters with a few cameos
Watching hill in full flight at the ground is unbelievable the ground he covers is amazing he nearly runs past every contest providing an option
I will miss bhilly as an anchor!

A big loss for you guys and the saints finally have a gun player that was born for the modern transition game.

Both teams feel like they should have gotten a bit more so probably a fair trade.

Saints win in the short-medium term because they have a proven top 3 winger in their side for the next 5 yrs.

Freo only win this trade if they nail the picks. Or if Acres finds consistency.
would be sweet in that 1st rounder we got for brad Hill turns out good and Blake acres turns out solid

Hill would be happy won his cups at the Hawks early on cashed in the Saints Disco later in life
my opinion is he played some of his better footy at Freo. Mainly because he was heavily relied upon.

I am not saying he was a bad player at the hawks. But the team the hawks had from 2012-16, he wasn't heavily relied upon.

He will be a key player at the saints. He has to be since he is on $900,000 a year

Two of those picks were very late and Acres would not have been best 22 for us with a full list to choose from.

Still a good result for Freo, but late picks are miss a lot more than they are hit.

Also worth noting that we had 6 originally which we turned into Howard, Ryder and 10 before sending that to Freo.
Freo has had a history of getting solid players with late picks or rookie pics. Walters, Sandilands, Neale and ed Langdon are among them. I am happy what Freo got with pick 58. He is another young fella from Woodville west Torrens
