Really feel this guy has been off form regularly since the 2013 flag. I understand his importance in the team to free up Isaac Smith but he has been a liability in both games he's played this year having minimal impact getting outworked of the play and little running dash. Really feel like he needs an extended period now at box hill to re craft his game better and apply it to the hawks structures better.

Given that he's had longer out, I'd be giving him a few more weeks to find some form yet. If smith was firing, or Billy, there may be a stronger case, but all three seem to be off. Also, given he was struggling more last year, and Clarko stuck by him says a lot.
Maybe he has 'the photos', or, maybe it's a structural thing.

Should of he had played for the second when we played adelaide to ease his way in seeing we had no shortage of outside run that game?

Needs time but Hill is always going struggle when we are being smashed in contested ball, not forcing turnovers and missing targets.

Hill is cream. He is applied & tastes delicious once others have built the cake.
Hill isn't cake.

Stop wishing he'd tackle & contest. He doesn't do that. What he's supposed to do is receive, run & deliver. Unfortunately, he's not doing that either.

If we're angry at him, let's make sure it's for the right reason. 4 years on, forget about his inept tackling - it's no longer an issue. Let's worry about why he fumbles every ball, refuses to use his run & misses a sh*tload of targets.

Hill was FAR from our worst on Saturday. Far far from it.

Anyone thinking replacing him fixes our problems is deluded.

We have had 1 serious inside mid this year and he had a poor game and we got belted.

We had a handful of clean clearances the entire game and outside of BigBoy couldnt take a contested mark.

And our kicking for goal continues to be way down on previous years.

Exactly. Its the cringeworthy turnovers.

He currently isn't playing to the level that is required, regardless of his injury. He kicks floaters to the feet of team mates, cannot lay a tackle to save his life and fumbles like he has had a bath in crisco. I understand that he runs all day but he is a liability currently. I would like to know why he has to find form in AFL rather than VFL if it's going to take a month to get to AFL standard.

Exactly, how many targets does he miss? He simply has to finish off the work of the inside mids, thats his no.1 job so if
he can't do it- hello box hill. Its demoralising for the inside players to see their good work go to waste.
And Hartung has more to offer than Hill, better kick for starters.

We've struggled to get our outside running game going all year due to losing contested possessions and clearances. Can't blame Hilly for that. He's been back for two weeks, the first he copped a corkie in the opening quarter. Do we really need separate threads to bag the same players?

It's demoralising to see our inside players second to the ball and getting tackled ferociously and in numbers while not doing the same for most of this year. I'm yet to see much of this "good work" you speak of.

Its even more demorilising when they finally get it out with a quick snap, only to face another 4 on 1 situation in the marking contest making you wonder where all your players are :'(

Fair call, they haven't got it enough which makes it even more important not to waste limited opportunities.
Its not just Hill, its every line but at the moment the focus is on Hill, fairly or unfairly.

The problem at Hawthorn is not outside running, it's winning contested ball.

That's not to say Hill can't be dropped to alter the balance (bring in someone to help win hard ball).

It's a problem Hawthorn are going to have to confront as guys like Burgoyne, Hodge and others can't help Mitchell win contested ball like they used to. Hale and Roughy out for Ceglar is also an issue around the contested ball.

Eventually the balance will have to shift as more inside mids are needed for the same output of ball.

There's not much point having 3 outside mids when you're only getting enough inside ball to feed 1 or 2 of them.

Replacing Hill with Hartung (assuming he's seen as outside mid) is only setting the guy up for failure.
