Any chance he's actually moved in with Aker over summer?? :p

After all the "problems" of last year, he [Johnno] seems to look for Aker a hell of a lot this year...
...like, a lot...

Hey, it's a good thing!...really a good thing.

Besides that...yeah, kinda poor today... :(

yes he made mistakes that frustrated me and yes Aker was brilliant and won the game for us
BUT
Johnson played on Cameron Bruce - a quality player who has always done well on him even during his All Australian years.
Which of the 5 first/second year players did Aker get?

Not his best today but last week was good. He is past his best but still dangerous and setting up goals (set up Akers first today) when someone is READY to replace him and do a better job I'll jump on the retirement bandwagon. But calling for him to go this week is just ridiculous.

31 years actually mate

maybe you mis understood my interpretation of the phrase "Flashes of Brilliance.." That was a compliment , believe me.....Johnno has certainly been Brilliant in his career..Maybe i should have said "Consistent and numerous Flashes of Brilliance throughout his career..."

i would say that Johnson has been one of the top 10 players at Footscray of all time, and he has had a brilliant career...I just think that the last few years has seen him slow down sadly..

No. I didn't misunderstand. I believe you're totally wrong. He has been consistently brilliant for a number (10) of years, as evidenced by 5 all australian selections, including captaincy.

I just don't understand all this negativity toward a champion of the club who, even though below his best, is still a great contributor.

Johnson's Future??

SEN interview today, Eade was asked about Aker's future beyond this year, his response was something like, "Everybody talks about Aker's future, but no-one talks about Johnson." This response was unprompted, no-one mentioned Johno until Eade did. SEN are running with it in their promo's, sorry, Sports Central reports.

Massive fan of Johnson and I wouldn't be surprised if Eade's barb has pissed off Geelong, given he tends to chop them up regularly. But it is clear that Johnson's form is concerning Eade. It will be interesting to see how Johnson responds.

But bigger picture, is this likely to be Brad Johnson's last year?

Looks like Eade wants to turn up the heat a little.

Re: Johnson's Future??

We had a similiar thread last week.

The answer would be the same for Johnno as well as Aker. Wait until the end of the season to see how they finish off their year. It is too early to tell at round 8.

Re: Johnson's Future??

Johnson's work rate has been first class all year. He's working very hard up and around the ground, and not impacting on the scoreboard as much as he has over the previous what, 5 years now.

Yes, his form has been down a little from what we'd hope for, but his effort and work rate is still up there with the best going around. He would still be amongst the first picked every week, and opposition teams still have to put a quality defender on him every week.

Providing his body holds up, now reason he can't play on, perhaps in a more limited role, next season.

Mate, Eade didn't put Johnno's future on the agenda last week unprompted. Having said that Eade said much the same in his interview, we'll have to see how Aker and Johnno's body (and mind) hold up during the season.

Still interesting that Eade has chosen now to put Johnno's future on the agenda when no-one else (except perhaps for some on this board) was talking about it in the mass media.

Re: Johnson's Future??

Johno's future is in the same position Aker's is, their form currently is good, but the season is long, and how he is playing in 14 weeks will provide the answer. Currently you would say Johno will play on next year.

Johno's day of playing deep inside forward 50 are over, he should be played exclusively across half forward, which will put more pressure on his body, but if it can hold up he still has something to offer the team.

Re: Johnson's Future??

Good on Eade. He is just turning up the heat a little on Johnson I think.

The difference between Johnson and Akermanis at present is that Aker is dominating Football games and looks as if he could/should go on next season.

Johnson doesn't look like he is playing at his brilliant best and honestly looks slow out their on the field like as if the game has just passed him or about to.

The best answer to this thread and both players in particular is lets just wait until seasons end and then we can comment.

Re: Johnson's Future??

Good work Rocket... you've just got to go that one step further though and not give him another game until he shows something down at Willy.

Either you were being very tongue in cheek or you have absolutely no idea about football.

Although he hasn't kicked as many goals this year he clearly leads the Bulldogs in goal assists.

Incorrect on both fronts.

I have been running the "Drop Johnson Bandwagon" since Round 4, and until it happens, I won't let up. He is soft, selfish, lacking pace, and a liability at the moment.

Agree with you 100%, see how well the Bulldogs do without him if he happens to cop an injury.

Johnson playing 50% is better than mosts forwards 100%

Perferct example is Medhurst, last year was all australian and if you check any stat, Johnson and Medhurst were almost identical. Yet Bulldogs supporters say he had a disappointing season.

No that proves I am correct on one count, you have no idea about football

I think this may be the most inane, and downright stupid thing I have ever read on BigFooty. Well done that's quite an acheivement.

There seems to be a major disconnect here with what some posters think versus what opposition coaches are thinking.

Certainly Johnno is not the player he once was (Captain Obvious I know). He's lost that acceleration that made him so dangerous and his overhead marking seems to have also dropped away. Still worth his place in the side but is no longer the match winner he once was.

Despite all that, other teams are still affording him due respect. Melbourne decided to sacrifice Bruce on the weekend and in previous matches Johnno has tended to attract one of the best if not the best defender. Unless the coaches are being unduly sentimental evidence suggests they still see him as a danger, not a hasbeen

Johnno's body is starting to fail him, he could hardly walk in the last qrt against Melbourne and has gone down hill since I saw him early in the year.

Clearly he needs to be rested to get his body right before a call can be made on him

I will keep referring back to this post, Johnson has proved over the last month how critical he is to our team.

He is now as has been for over a decade an absolute champion Bulldogs player.

People who knock him just drive me crazy....

I had a little kid in a bulldogs scarf next to me last night who spent the whole night yelling about how much he hates Brad Johnson! WTF! He couldn't have been older than 9 or 10. This anti-Johnno virus is starting to spread. Idiots.

Re: Johnson's Future??

It seemed as though he was running harder then anyone else on the ground last night. Just kept busting his ass and attacking the ball. Heartbeat of the team.
