You've made no substantive response to the issues I've raised - get a grip.
Also I haven't accused anyone of anything - leave off with accusatory stance you take on any view that differs from yours

My issue and I say it again - is I cant see this bloke having Bolton or SOS taking him seriously as their boss.

If you cant see what the implications of that situation are (if I am right) to an organisation - then I cant help you.
Why would they not take him seriously? It is not like he is going to tell Bolton what game plan to use he is there to support. If he needs to tell Bolton that he needs to improve in an area ie. management of staff it would be pretty stupid of Bolton to not take him seriously and I am guessing Bolton is not stupid.

I guess being a public servant, all of these reporting functions make sense to me. Being an OHS person, all of those lines of communication make sense to me too. There's a lot of staff there who have GMs to report to, and then the GMs report to the CEO who reports to the board. It would be too unwieldy to have all staff reporting to the CEO for example. Too much would slip through the cracks.

Reporting functions make sense in any organisation - because you need to measure and manage and develop feedback loops for constant improvement as well as audit/compliance and governance functions. I have no problem with reporting functions or reporting lines.

IF the role is indeed designed to ensure the smooth functioning of all interrelated activities to do with on and off field performance - I get that too.

IF this is the case- I would suggest that Mr Loyd has a bit of learning to do on the job - as per my original posts.

I agree that finding a suitable person with deep experience across all the related functions would be a difficult ask. Maybe this is why not all clubs have this role in their org structure and maybe this too reinforces the validity of my increasingly pedantic question - which in no way was meant to be a personal 'attack' on Mr Loyd - who I don't know.

I will say as I said when Craig - left - Craig was a big loss to Carlton.

If I was Bolton - I couldn't care less what someone with ZERO coaching experience had to say about how to coach. Same way as when I get sick I go to a doctor and not some quack herbal medicine shyster.

Do you think Bolton doesn't know he needs to improve all the time or that Bolton needs someone to tell him he needs to improve on field performances? Really if that was the purview of Mr Head of Football it is a very weak role - the tea lady could do it ( so to speak).

He is not there to tell Bolton how to coach he is there to help management of the whole team that is completely different. Go and spend a day with a Head of Football my guess is they would be pretty busy.

Not without the quality of her earl grey going into a downward spiral.

Thats what all the assistant coaches are there for - surely?

Seems to me there will be some overlap in a few positions by necessity.

Barker, Bruce, Teague, Amos, Clarke, Rocca, Fraser, Watson, Stanton, Davenport - report to Bolton. Bolton reports to McKay/Lloyd.

Fraser also reports to Villani and Millar. Watson, Stanton and Davenport also report to Millar.

Millar will report partly to Bolton, and partly to McKay/Lloyd.

Agresta reports to SOS. Brodie reports to SOS. Harris, Jordan and Bleach report to Brodie. SOS reports to McKay/Lloyd.

Shane O'Sullivan reports to McKay/Lloyd. Augustin and Matti report to O'Sullivan.

Cortazzo, Manson, Tavrou, Noble, Ryan, Coutts report partly to Bolton but mostly McKay/Lloyd.

Livingston, Bode, Tiricola and Jenner report to Hocking, who reports to Barker. Barker reports to Bolton and McKay/Lloyd.

Christie, James, Hogan, Clarke, Jaques-Anderson, Beard report to Pacecca. Pacecca reports to McKay/Lloyd.

Klarica reports to McKay/Lloyd.

Kempton reports to McKay/Lloyd.

Lillian O'Sullivan reports to Bloom and Vorich and also to Silvagni and/or McKay/Lloyd.

Bloom and Vorich report to McKay/Lloyd.

Yeah I employ people too - and I don't burden them with organisational structures and reporting lines that are meaningless - which is why I don't get the Football Operations role...which is what started me on the whole issue...

and you know what - no one has been able to explain what the purpose of such a role is to me anyway..apart from vague mumbles about 'reporting lines'...

:think:just like CEO means - head of marketing ..another rubbish title in AFL land - CEO in my world means CEO - all department heads report directly to CEO apart from Finance ...

Lets be honest here, coming to BF and asking those questions is the wrong place. I am sure most people on BF, myself included have very little idea about the inner workings of a football club. If you're being honest with yourself, you may also have very little idea about the inner workings of a football club.

There may be bloat with regards to employees but that is a club issue. It does seem that certain roles sound like they're doubling up, but without really knowing the inner workings it is very hard to tell.

If you look at our executive:

CEO
Executive Assistant
CFO
GM - Consumer Business
GM - Corporate Sales & Partnerships
GM - People , Community, Diversity & Inclusion
Head of Football
GM - Communications and Marketing

Numerous staff in each department reporting to Liddle. You seem concerned Lloyd won't be taken seriously by Bolton and SOS ? His job is to integrate and gather information. If Lloyd isn't capable of giving his staff a rocket when needed then I'm sure Liddle would. All we can do is hope that the praise for Lloyd from the industry is correct and he performs in his role. Graham Wright has made a similar move at the Hawks from list management.

ok thanks I consider myself thoroughly schooled now and look forward to the day when Liddle kicks SOS and Bolton up the backside for being slackers because this Loyd blow in says so.

Yep I agree no point in asking questions in a forum about designed to discuss stuff about the Club we all follow...:thumbsu:

I'm not trying to school you mate, just discussing why you think Lloyd is not capable of being SOS or Boltons boss.

I've argued the unpopular argument plenty of times, no need to complain you're not being allowed to.

4/5 women out of 46 positions -- Carlton determined to embrace change. :thumbsu:

3/8 in the Executive
5/46 in Football (1 male is counted in the executive and here)
7/14 in the Consumer Business Section (1 male is counted in the executive and here)
6/14 in Commercial Sales & Partnership (1 male is counted in the executive and here)
7/13 in Communications & Marketing (1 female is counted in the executive and here)
6/12 in Corporate Services (1 male is counted in the executive and here)
4/6 in People, Community, Diversity & Inclusion (1 female is counted in the executive and here)
7/21 in AFLW (nobody in the executive)

Take away the double ups and it is 43 females from 128 jobs or 33%

Take away the traditionally blokey Football Department roles and it is 38/82 or 46%

I reckon the club are improving and have been on the right track for the last few years.

Who is complaining ? In fact I've found the responses to my questions interesting and informative - and tbh it has been a slow couple of days at work.

It was your comment "no point in asking questions in a forum designed to discuss stuff". Needs more mongrel ;) All good :thumbsu:
