As a side note, it never really sits right with me when journalists report major decisions like this before the players have time to tell their teammates. This will be all over the news in the next couple of days and by the time Monday rolls around half of the playing group will already know of his decision before Sheppard tells them.
The players would all know . I was told by my mate at the club a couple of months ago about shep .

The club would have had to go through all the protocols but the writing was on the wall

Think shep is alright . Wasn't he and duggan at the t20 world cup in the UAE ?
Thought I remember seeing them in the crowd watching mitch marsh dominate

This is no slight on sheppard who I love but to me nobody in the league could have played de goey better than how schofield toweled him up. I had Schoey second best on ground.
Possibly but from memory Shepp started on Degoey in the qualifying final and had his measure albeit only for the 20 minutes he was out there before doing his hammy

Momentum shifted after that as well - we were in full control of the match up until then

Four? NN, Gaff, Shep and?
E-mac was still on the list, but wasn't a realistic option of playing.

P.S. how is this the third image that comes up when searching for E-mac. Deprioritise this shit Googs.

As good as NicNat, Shep and Gaff are there are no guarantees at all they outperform their three replacements on that day. NicNat's best - or even an average NN performance - was above Vardy, but NN is prone to some rare down days. Sheed and Schoey played footy that day that was straight off the top shelf. Even disregarding the importance of the match it would have been in both of their top five performances for the club - maybe even both of their #1's. Without doubt #1 for both when you give them some weight for doing so in a winning GF.

(Sidenote: I've always thought Sheed would have come in for Venables at some point in the lead up to the finals, but I obviously don't know that for sure)

I rewatched that game recently, we were lucky Collingwood couldn't put their third quarter dominance on the scoreboard, we should have been four or so goals down at 3qtr time imo. Thankfully they didn't and we were within striking distance.

Still remember the day he got drafted, was driving home from work heading down Stirling Highway and they interviewed him on 6PR. Good times

Was it De Goey that pushed Shepp in the back when he was at full flight, thus pinging the hammy?

There's no doubt the players are all aware and know.

Imagine the meeting on Monday will be a chance for Shep to do a face to face with them all at the club.

The number 6 will be put into retirement for awhile too , out if respect I would imagine. Another courageous defender who , similar to Beau Waters , pays the price for putting his team before his safety
