Are we trading for the sake of it now?

Why do we want Symes? I want to hear a decent reason. Yes he's a good ball winner, but as I have said, he is slow, has average disposal and has NO outstanding feature. He is simply yet another average, run-of-the-mill player who we shouldn't be chasing.

Its essentially Mattner for Symes. I think the coaching staff may see Symes as a potential in and under midfield type as well as a HBF. Perhaps Alan Stewart's influence was the key.

It looks that way doesn’t it?

FFS if we give Port Adelaide pick 28 for Symes; we are kidding our self if we want to improve this list.

I'd give Port pick 28 for Symes.

Just I wouldn't give Mattner for 28. That's where we ****ed up.

symes was drafted at #30 in 2003, has played about 20 games over that time and played 1 game in 2007 due to wilson's injury.
...
Yes, Symes did play one game in 2007 because Wilson got injured, but he also played 6 other games. :)
He was unlucky that Port’s run started whilst he wasn’t in the team, it could have easily been the other way around.

Effectively Mattner for Symes is not unreasonable IMO.

Gives 2 out of favour players a new opportunity.

Not sure why people are upset here ....IMO pick 28 for Symes is a reasonable win/win deal.

Get a known qty at 28 ....retain the pick before at 27 (still in front of Port) and likely to get pick 22 from Bulldogs if Power goes to Richmond and an early second round is used which would be lower than Bulldogs #22

as long as we use 28, i dont care
better not be 27 or 22

Your kidding me Kane. If we traded Mattner for Symes, Port would be doing cartwheels.

So what is it with the Symes interest. He's slow, not a ganeuine midfielder and has questionable disposal. Haven't we had to endure enough of this type of player over the last few years.

what confuses me is why arent the crows trying to get Jay Shultz? we could simply offer Richmond the marty mattner pick 28? Surely the crows are in need of forwards more so than port? what is going on?

interesting point, and probably fair.

but would it change the quality of the underlying player either way?

Don't rate Schulz... glad we're not going for him.

This guy has played 49 games for Richmond, and averaged 6 possessions and 3 marks per game. They are sub-Perrie, sub-Kenny, sub-Gill, sub-almost-bloody-anyone stats!!

over his career schulz is pretty much a goal a game player despite being in richo's shadow and having a stop start career. he would at least fill a need whereas symes ...

also don't underestimate richmond's ability to waste a talented player.

Exactly. Look at David Rodan's season with Port this year for evidence.
