Well I'm one die hard Swans supporter who is not worried, we were rated a bottom four team but we're still within the eight. I dont know who thought we'd be contenders this year but we were never going to be. We have new players in the side and Rookies moving up the ranks... I am indeed pleased of how we're going...

Im a Darwin fan and went to the Sydney v Richmond game, my first game for 4 years but thought completely gutted I realize our forward structure was up shit creek.

That's being driven by the panel on One Week At A Time, I haven't heard or seen it elsewhere. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.
I must confess Grim one, I did not know this programme and had to goggle it's title.
As for the rumour or murmur. I was in Adelaide last January whilst there for a mates wedding that this was originally mentioned to me.

The Sheedy and Chocco double act arise !!

Nice positive vibe. We're all just a bit depressed but you're right. We shouldn't ignore the positives. Just the injuries and loss to the tigers have turned some of us towards the dark side.

Thanks Plugg3r

Thanks Bungee,

Yeh I can see how, but we have a great team and I think we're set up nicely for next year... Sydney are doing quite impressive but who wouldnt doubt they'd crack under the loss of 4 Top quality footballers. Geelong and Saints wouldnt be looking to good either with the loss there 4 best players.

Geelong has had Ottens, Corey, Hawkins, Ling, Rooke, Podsiadly, Mooney, Steve Johnson and Harry Taylor missing at different times of the year. The majority of that group missing at the same time. They are a team who can still be one of the best teams in the comp without having their best side out there.

So how are they managing injuries, they have as many as any other team .This weeks injured at the scum
Armitage, Clarke, Eddy, Gram, Riewoldt and Koschitzke who is listed as indefinite !
Week 16 AFL site injury update. I still say they're managing their injuries better than we are. Since losing David Misson our injury management has gone downhill.

ST KILDA
Raphael Clarke (hamstring) - test
Robert Eddy (knee) - test
Brendon Goddard (illness) - TBC
Justin Koschitzke (ankle) - test
Jesse Smith (ankle) - season

SYDNEY SWANS
Craig Bird (foot) - 1 week
Craig Bolton (achilles) - 3-4 weeks
Daniel Bradshaw (hamstring) - 2-3 weeks
Daniel Currie (foot) - test
Campbell Heath (ankle) - 1 week
Matt O'Dwyer (shoulder) - 1 week
Jake Orreal (back) - season
Henry Playfair (back) - indefinite
Gary Rohan (ankle) - 1 week
Mark Seaby (ankle) - 3-4 weeks

It's not always about "managing injuries". Sometimes someone just.....gets injured.

There's not always a lot you can do. The only real issues I have with our injury management is when we played a clearly unfit Craig Bolton early in the season and I think Craig Bird was possibly brought back in too soon.

Guys like Bradshaw, Seaby and Rohan are just injured due to bad luck or in Bradshaw's case, old age lol.

And Kennelly as well. That's 3 issues and is pretty pretty much the definition of poor injury management if you ask me

It's something that's impossible to confirm either way but the statistics definitely back up the theory that we're missin' Misson.

A lot of the injuries are knees, breaks and foot problems so it's just bad luck imo. We don't have ongoing soft tissue injuries, which is the only situation where you start to have a good look at the medical staff imo.

So you consider selecting injured players who subsequently reinjure themselves as good management?

Bolton was clearly hindered for a number of weeks, Kenelly re-injured the same injury in his first game back (the week before the bye), and Bird re-injured the same injury 2 weeks back

I get that there is bad luck, those examples above strike me as poor management

A lot of the blame has to go on the players as well. I'd like to see Bolton's reaction when he is told he needs a rest so early in the season. Foot problems are always hard to manage. There are cases like that every year, Hawkins and Petrie are examples of ongoing problems.

Kennelly was a weird one. He did come back too soon and should have taken the extra week + mid season break. I think we were all surprised they didn't take that option.

There has been a surprising number of injuries. However the three key injuries to Bolton, Seaby and Bradshaw (the knee) were caused in play. Bird looked OK before his injury and Kennelly played too soon. I don't know about the others. Perhaps the wet winter and conditions on which they train are a cause. The injuries have given us a chance to look at Rohan, Heath, Pyke and Dennis-Lane. I still like what I see.

A positive man, thats what we need from our Supporters. A positive attitude, just because our elite players go down doesnt mean there isnt something to gain from the season... Means Pyke can develop along with others!

players injure themselves mainly because of their own lack of discipline when if comes to how they prepare their body. blaming the swans medical staff is moronic, they can't be watching them 24/7 making sure they are stretching and stretching properly, eating well and not engaging in other activities which might increase risk of injury...

look at goodes and kirky who religiously practice yoga and pilates, this is why they can string so many games together, same with jude.

then there are players whose bodies just aren't built as well, it's in their dna. :(

Are you saying the players are moronic, the thread is moronic or the idea that medical staff could impact on team fitness is moronic ?

You're talking about the attitudes of individual players and that's an aside to the discussion but I can agree that the advice, monitoring, diagnosis, design of fitness and recovery plans etc provided by the fitness/medical staff is of limited benefit if the players ignore it.

There's no evidence that the players of 2010 are any different in attitude to fitness to previous years when we had very good 'luck' with injuries. If anything our younger list should see fewer injuries across the team. The point being discussed here was whether the overall management of the players fitness (across all players) has gone downhill since the loss of David Misson.
