Daniel Bradshaw pulled out of the Prelim final against Carlton on the weekend to be with his girlfriend at the birth of their first child (she went into labour at about 10.00 am in the morning of the final)

This is a scenario that gets bought up from time to time in bars etc, and the question gets asked, what would you do yada yada, personally I think he made the right decision and admire the bloke for making the call and would probably do it myself – but then again I’m not a Lions fan!!!

Maybe Projecteagle, maybe not. I mean whats to stop him having a first child with another woman? Or two? 10?

Never know who might come knocking at the door asking for "Daddy" one day

No problems if it was for a H&A, or even a first final where you've got the double chance. But this was a cut throat final, his team may never play in another while he's there and also Power had pulled out beforehand. Still it's his decision, his call, end of story. Families are numero uno but this was an extraordinary situation.

Cheers.

Can't say you haven't been warned. There's plenty of time to generate the son and heir after one settles down.

Apparently the chap's from the country .. that may explain it.

Our club members are still trying to get the hang of it - procreation that is - and we generally have to hire help in.

Someone mentioned Dolly the Sheep ( I think it was Sheep ) which sounds like the perfect solution

I say good on him

Most women would probably do the 'right' thing and insist the player went to the footy, but you'd always hope they'd stay...

Besides, I guess it's different when the team's playing interstate.

BTW/ We're getting a baby Kemp next year!

To go with the young Matera and Sumich..... Perhaps in 20 years time we really can reconstruct the early 90's Eagles

I assume she went into labour early??

Most players arrange for induction on a Monday so it can be all over by the weekend.

Sounds like Mom didn't play the game right.

Seriously he made the right choice. He will never regret this choice. If he had chsen to play then he would have regretted it eventually.

I am a LIONS supporter and I think Braddy made the right decision. It was his to make anyway.

We were outplayed and outcoached on Saturday and even if he had played I don't think that could have been changed.

Upwards and onwards and 2001 is too far away for me already!!!

This is always a real dilemma for players but if Bradshaw had pulled out 9 months ago, he would'nt have had to pull out on Saturday.

I think Bradshaw did the right thing anyway, seeing the birth of your child is one of the greatest moments of one's life.

Drakey,

Steady on, old chap. One mustn't ignore one's natural urges. One could become bitter and twisted. I've seen quite alot of that at the club ( and throughout the clergy ).

Now .. where was I ? Dolly !! Here , Dolly !! There's a good girl ...

I'm glad to finally see some support in the football community for Daniel.. on the footy panel with Rex and his lil sexist followers I was disgusted to see the vast majority of people running bradshaw down.

For the ignorant pricKs information.. Jake Mark Bradshaw was born 3 weeks premature weighing in at 6lb2oz. So Nick Holland & Shane Woewodin's idiotic (I'd plan it better) excuses were completely flawed.. Braddy didn't plan for his child to be born in this more dangerous manner tools.

As for the brigade of "this is finals footy and is more important"... who gives a toss... what you're saying is that a piece of pigskin is worth more than that first bonding of a father and his newborn child.. if you believe that you a) don't deserve to have children yourself ever & b) have a sadly low value of life.

Daniel made the decision that took the most guts and showed he's got more balls than any of the "footy is life" moron brigade.. Good on ya Braddy and here's hoping your family life is a fruitful and happy one.

Bradshaw did the right thing. Maybe in a Grand Final, he would've made a different decision, but as someone wrote in the Australian, it may have been a finals match, but in years to come, that match will be forgotten but he'll always remember the birth of his child.

Good luck to Daniel Bradshaw, his fiancee, and his new child. All the best for the future.
