Why are people saying he turned *** into Sheez and Wardlaw?

We already had pick 1, and *. We turned Pick 1 and * into Sheez, Wardaw and prob a pick around 12.
I think given we rated Ashcroft, Sheezel & Wardlaw as the three best players in the draft, it's fair to say he turned: JHF & Sheezel, into Sheezel, Wardlaw & Future First (Pick 8-12).

A much better return then JHF & Sheezel, into Sheezel, Gibney & Future First (Pick 8-12)

Interesting his comments regarding knowing who we would take from our first 3 picks a long way out.

Definitely seems like we’ve discovered George was likely available mid 20’s and traded up specifically for him.

The way he was talking about George, you get the feeling Brady almost rated him as highly as Sheezel.

“kicks goals for fun, likely would have topped the NAB league goal kicking etc” given Sheezel actually ended up topping the NAB league goal kicking…
The reference was in relation to knowing that we’d have cooper, wardlaw and sheezel coming in as to the 3 that we knew.

George was just opportunistic slider and we rated him highly.

Our first pick this year was always going to be Sheez, even if we didn't trade pick 1. So we've turned The Cry Baby into Wardlaw and pick 12. Pretty good result really considering TCB didn't want to be there and has dodgy as * legs.

The way I look at it, by securing the two picks, we built in some insurance on our choice. Using pick 1 on a medium size forward is a big call, so having the luxury of taking Wardlaw as well means that Sheezel is not such a gamble. And the reverse is also true. It would have been a risk to use pick 1 on a kid who has suffered multiple hamstring injuries, but having the luxury of picking Sheezel means that Wardlaw is not so much of a gamble. Obviously sooky-la-la is part of the equation but he was never going to deliver for us as we've come to appreciate.

I think it was a great effort by the whole club not just Brady. They would have been monitoring these players for a number of years. Having two very early picks allowed us to pick someone like B George who won't be playing until 2024.
The rookie draft allowed us to bring in a couple of senior players which is why the AFL gave us two extra picks.

If I'm reading King Corey table correctly. The Wardlaw pick is the one swapped for JHFF and F1. I reckon that if right was a deliberate ploy.

Not that it matters of course, some do say that Wardlaw was the best in his class and has similar strengths just injuries prevented that from being on display. We've heard that all before though.

I get the angst about not taking a key position player but they might have wanted Hayes but he was gone, so they took George who they clearly rated top 20. They also would likely know what's in next years draft.
They might be looking at someone at our pick or Port's pick and maybe BPJ is considered another forward option and will take up a list spot vs Keeler/Scully/Lemmey this year.
The only argument to me is taking a mature forward as a rookie this year as young KPF shouldn't really play seniors right away. Anyway next year if they don't address key position I would be little bemused.

The window is gone for the draft to address KPF, in my opinion.

Assuming we draft a KPP next year, by the time he develops, McKay is 30, Larkey 29, Simpkin 28 etc. There’s good mids at the top of every draft and it takes balls to draft the more risky KPP during the beginning of a rebuild, but Carlton showed that it can come off big time.

I don’t necessarily agree tbh. I agree a big development project. However the right young key forward can make an impact after a couple years. I’m obviously talking about the cream of the crop, but as an example if we take Nate Caddy or Archer Reid next year with our early first, they may be able to do what Naughton and others have done.

I also see our window as the next decade. I’m no longer just thinking when LDU hits his prime, I’m thinking when Wardlaw/Sheezel do (plus our two firsts next year).

Stephenson, LDU will be 27, Scott, Thomas will be 26, Phillips, Powell will be 24, Goater, Curtis will be 23, Wardlaw, Sheezel, George will be 22.

This isn’t McKay, Larkey, Simpkins prime or bust IMO. We should be looking at setting ourselves for multiple windows over these guys careers.

I guess to rephrase to communicate better, I'm not saying we don't pick one of those blokes up. Just that (if Comben doesn't come on, but I have high hopes) it's too big a risk not to trade/FA to get one for a hard tilt in 2-3 years.

We're 3 years into the hard rebuild but really our core is from 2016-2018 drafts - we're already 5 years into this. We need to get someone in ready to rock if Chombo doesn't do what we think, lest we throw a few years of potential window out the window.

Adding to this that these three are already touted as our emerging leaders, nothing wrong with them being around the 30 mark when we are peaking as a squad
