Roast Brandon Ellis

Undisciplined 50 meters, turnover after turnover, shit himself more than once....I'll just put it down to a bad game because I thought he was terrific last year.
8 disposals 75%DE only 2 clangers of which 1 was the free kick against. So you want to try again with the turnover after turnover claim.

Wow!
Kid will be very very disappointed in himself & will do whatever it takes to atone.... either v The Saints next week or via Coburg.... is a quality footballer.

Strange thread.

So doesnt deserve to be hit over the head for it.

But the question this year is do we keep him in the seniors or is Hardwick going to send him back to Coburg until ready. We are in it to win this year and it will be interesting to see whether our new recruits are there to make guys like Ellis earn their games and have to re earn on poor performances. Being sent back to Coburg is still development but different to our 'see who we have got' policy of earlier years.

Of course Ellis wasn't great but my point was about perspective.
Far be it for me to deny anyone the right to criticise a teenager playing in front of 80,000+ at the home of football in what some were describing as "perhaps the most important round 1 game for a decade"

My only and I mean only concern is the occasional panic kick.. But JESUS HE'S A SECOND YEAR PLAYER..
I love the kid. Going to be a gun

Second year player, yes I understand.

But crapping yourself three times is not good enough. I will take mistakes but not that. He will learn, will be a good player for us, but he doesn't need excuses, he needs to learn from it.

For a supporter you aint doing much supporting...

Honestly don't see the point of threads like this. We won, Ellis was quiet. Who cares? He's 19/20 years old.

Sorry, I don't just turn a blind eye to crap. I see the game for what it is. We won, great, but improvement is needed.

As I said, he will/should be a good player but last night was disappointing in his effort. Wasn't his first game either so the excuses for him wear thin. Hopefully he will be given the tapes and told it is not acceptable and will redeem next week if he isn't dropped.

We can't carry players if we want to achieve finals this year, the competition is too tight. Vlastuin is someone that showed he goes in 100%, 100% of the time. If Ellis doesn't, see you later. Last night, no one can deny he was below the grade needed.

Sorry, ..... but improvement is needed..

Yes.... in all of our players.... Cotch included.
What is the point of singling out one individual, especially a kid playing his first game of season #2?

Certainly improvement is needed with the attitude of some of our supporters though....

jumped at shadows tonight. Seemed to be putting more perceived pressure on himself then the blues actually were.
Definitely noticed that, which was simply due to being tackled from behind in the first five minutes or so.
But 19yo's can be like that.

So if he played that way again, would you just pass it of as his second game in season two?

He was our worst. So he should be singled out. As I have said, mistakes I can handle, efforts when it's your turn to go and you don't, I can't. He cost us in three instances due to effort at the ball. I think he can become a top liner and support him backing up next week, but why can't we point out negatives? He wouldn't be happy with that performance, the coaches wouldn't be happy with his performance so why should we be happy and content and look at it through unrealistic glasses?

He was bad. End of. That's all I am saying. Next week I look forward to him improving his effort and hardness at the contest. If not, we finally have depth.

God i hope he doesnt read big footy. The existance of this thread is embarressing.
Would you being saying that had we lost?...I bet you'd looking for players to blame for it.

Was poor last night, but i am backing him to bounce back quickly.
I am too, every player young or old has played at least one or two shockers in their careers.

Would you like us to play the best available like Wallace did for 4 and a half years ?
Yes I would. Wallace played best available at a time when we needed to play the juniors but we have already gone through that period of developing. Now is the time to win games, not worry about development. Thus if Ellis isn't seen as best 22, I would be disappointed if they kept him in due to his age.

Well said. Time for gifting games to players because of age is now gone.

Don't perform to a certain level, out you should go.

Agee, I think the thing that counts against Ellis the most is where he is getting tackled and is jumping at shadows. It always seems to be in defensive 50 or there abouts. So his mistakes are amplified.

This would be no different than what the coaches will highlight.

Ellis had a poor game last night from the standards he played to last year. He didn't commit fully to enough contests, and was duly subbed out of the game. In saying that, he will learn and will be a fantastic 10 year+ player. Every kid has a poor game once in a while, and last night was his. To label him as too soft is stupid.

Who would have thought a 2nd year player might have a bad game? Never happened before in the history of the game. FFS Ellis you are dead to me.

/sarcasm

Exactly. Yes, Ellis was horrid last night, no doubt, but if you read some of the overreaction on this thread the senior career of this promising teenager as good as over and he and his entire family must be immediately banished to the brutal Coburg gulag for the winter......and we won ffs??!!

Ellis reminds me alittle of a young Matty White, which wories me.
Has plenty of pace and run but not sure about the footy smarts.

Does anyone know what position he played the majority of his junior years?
Might still be new to the backline.

Hopefully has plenty of improvment to come.
