they are already discussing trading Bennell. Hunt was the guy keeping him on the straight and narrow (as strange as that seems).

You'd room Bennell with Walters and just hope it all went well so you wouldn't want to pay too much for him.

Matera on the other hand could realistically come cheap.
Let him go to the Eagles. He'd suit their culture.

Matera isnt a bad player like people think. Guy has full of natural talent, which has made him slack off. Under lyon can see him reach his full potential.

Though he supports the bombers, I dont think he really cares for either freo/wce which is odd lol

Crozier / Sheridan are hardly "far superior". Neither of them can get a game.

They'd be closer than Matera if he was on our list.

our record with 1st round picks is actually not great.

people also overrate first round picks.

I'd trade our first round pick next year for Matera as it will be in the high teens.

For every Fyfe there are 20 Pitts at that level in the draft.
Pitt is an unfair comparison due to his heart. If you want to compare our draft picks around where Fyfe was taken use Ballantyne, Suban, Sheridan, Crozier, Simpson and Apeness.

Pitt was not very good before he had any heart issues.

Him, Saunders & Dell'Olio would go alright down at Souths.
Totally agree - completely overrated dwarf who has dined out on his surname. Not a shade on Peter, Phil or Wally.
Would make a fine addition to the West Coast collection of mediocre short people.
Or the more recent collection of very ordinary Eagles father-son recruits (Waterman / Brennan).

I think his development was following a similar trajectory to Sheridan's. Drafted high, was taking a few years to develop and maybe also for the self belief that he belonged at the top level. Pitt was just starting to show something before his diagnosis.

It is fair to say his career has stalled, but looking at the gold coast it appears a fair few of there players have not got the best out of there ability.

I remember his first year dominating the odd game, but he definitely needs to work harder.

The only question is will he be a Polec or a Sylvia. At 23 he still has the time to change, but I think we have too much competition for him to get a game for us, so unfortanately for Matera he will need to look up the road as Duffy, Ballantyne, Walters and Crozier are all competing for similar spots and we need more people who can run through the midfield.

Dixon seems to injure his ankle kicking five goals.

Someone mentioned (Barrett???) that Dixon was also drinking alcohol on the same weekend the GC 3 were club suspended, but that the difference was that he was with friends and family at home. Considering the directive before the match was not to consume alcohol afterwards, do we really want him? A lot of boys there doing their own thing and not adhering to standards that would definitely be expected at Fremantle.

and a few of the NEAFL players if I believe David King.

Harley Bennell (assuming we can keep him on the straight and narrow) and Jesse Hogan would make us a force to be reckoned with for the next decade.

I highly doubt we'll get either, let alone both. While we are at it, why not chuck Rory Sloane in the shopping trolley to keep Taylz happy?

With the revelations of the last couple of days, I wouldn't go near Harley Bennell unless we stipulated in his contract that he has to do a drug and alcohol test every single day and any failures of these tests will result in an automatic termination of his contract without being obliged to pay him out.

So ... Hogan and Sloane it is then.

I liked Matera early, but somehow he has stagnated quite a bit. Shows flashes of brilliance but inconsistent and somehow injury prone. And not the type of player we really need. Still have Crozier, Duffy behind Walters (who is still young) and Ballantyne. But wouldn't be against it, when the price is right...

I think his behaviour has been blown out of proportion? Dont think he is in the Slyvia category yet?
