Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

No mines in Kangaroo Point, as far as I'm aware.

You have to match if you want a trade, that's how it goes.

There's no trading if you don't match, so go ahead and do that first.

Enjoy your Allen compo old boy.

Big week in the mines, hey? Struggling to comprehendo.

We’re not matching. He’s all yours. Enjoy your Allen compo old boy.

Unless you, say it with me now, pony up.

Well, there's no trade between the 2 clubs until an offer is matched, no?

Unless Starcevich doesn't accept either contract and Brisbane are happy for us to flick them a third rounder.
So let me get this straight. You're paying Starce 900k over 6 years, which means you value him as a first rounder, and you want to flick us a third rounder? Also, you don't seem to know the rules. If a restricted free agent doesn't sign, he walks into the national draft. not the pre-season draft. You guys literally have no power here. You either give us a first rounder, or you can sign him as a free agent, then you get no compo. Or we let him walk, and you have to use your first round to draft him. Either way, if you want starce, you're losing a first rounder.

You do realise that Starce loves it here and that he's genuinely 50/50. If you can't make a trade happen, then he would be more than happy to stay. This isn't Zac Merrett

And?

Are the Lions being hard done by landing two quality free agents for free so lose their free agent for nothing?

Still miles ahead.

Plus getting the best mid in the draft at a discount.

Lions don't need more charitable donations.

If he wants a pay rise and a longer contract he looks after his future employer not his previous employer.

Well, if you don't like our draft hand and you feel we have too many good players on our list, you're free to get him via free agency and lose your pick 2. Or you can pick him up in the national draft with your pick 2, but i don't think you'll be able to get him if you use those picks, because he would be gone before your next one came along.

I'd happily let him go to another club and Brisbane get nothing. He's not moving the needle for us.

Better yet, Brisbane match, we pull out and your salary cap blows up.

The rules change so much now i can't keep up. But an uncontracted player can still just choose to nominate for the PSD can they not?
Even if that's not the case, those who enter the ND nominate their own contract terms, which is what Luke Ball did.

If he just puts a 2-year contract on his head, at $1.5M per year, nobody will touch him.

We can then just extend the contract later for less money.

Honestly not too fussed about it in this situation because I think there's no chance it happens

But now just wondering if it is still possible

So, being contracted for 2 more years, why would you make an irrelevant comments that has nothing to do with free agency?

Why would your comment regarding Starcevich Free Agency value have anything to do with his Trade value.

Fine, take our 3rd rounder. It's more than you'll be getting anywhere else.

Only if you match his offer from WCE. If you don't, then there is no trade.

Capiche?

You're not trading Starcevich, unless you match his offer from WCE. With the players Brisbane are bringing in for free via free agency, I very much doubt Brisbane will be in any position to match an offer.
Lodging an offer affects you way more than us (losing the Allen over compensation)

Hint : You’re not lodging a free agency offer, therefore we won’t be able to match anything.

So, you want WCE's draft assistance to raid another bottom 4 club?

And you think this wouldn't be the AFL giving a leg up to the reigning premier, who's already raiding those same 2 clubs?

Right...

Don’t want, deserve.
The circumstances dictate the outcomes.

Note: i think there's no way in the world this actually happens
This is from the AFL website

"Under the AFL Player Rules, an Unrestricted Free Agent may automatically move to the Club of their choice.

An offer to a Restricted Free Agent may be matched by their Club. Should their original Club match the offer, and the Restricted Free Agent Player does not wish to remain with their original Club, they must enter the National Draft or seek a trade. Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks will apply to clubs with a net loss of Free Agents, based on the formula determined by the AFL."

The reality is, if Starce leaves, the AFL will give you a first rounder to give to us. While you may not like it because it'll make us stronger, we are losing a player that we need to replace as well.

Because free agency isn't the same thing as a contracted player for 2 years.

I though that was pretty obvious.

Who knows what we're doing? Find out next week, I guess. Brisbane should be happy with Hawks 2nd rounder in that case, considering they get nothing if we did lodge a FA offer.

Clearly it would be a case of the AFL looking to gift more charity to Brisbane if they don't waive the FA penalty but give us a 1st rounder we have to trade instead.

Eagles will pay high 6 fgures plus a Hungry Jack's franchise

If WCE get an end of 1st/start of 2nd round picks as part of their "draft assistance package" they "have to trade" that'll be the chip to placate the Lions

This is false. Brisbane would receive a replacement via a compensation pick if they were “losing a player”, but they are also gaining Allen and Draper, so the net change due to Free Agency would be positive. Brisbane are gaining a player.
