Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

He hasn't signed because the Eagles are chasing him, if they couldn't (wouldn't) sign him his other options (according to the media) is staying at Brisbane. So they wouldn't lose him.
You’re fighting a losing battle against two posters who would rather bang their heads against the wall than think about what you’re saying.

My guess is WCE will hit the draft hard this year and next year and then go hard with FA and trades to try and fastrack their build. Starce only fits your build if you're going to get aggressive. It may not make sense tomorrow, but will probably make sense in 2027 or 2028.
We have already hit the draft hard.
We will aim for high picks + NGAs and f/s only the next couple of years, while chasing FA or mature age players with all our other assets.

i believe we will be aggressive, moreso starting next year and beyond, especially when Warner is a free agent. Hard to be aggressive when players dont want to come haha

But at the same time we do have depth in the half back space, and if we add Starcevich we are just going to have to move at least one of our very young half backs to the midfield where theyll be competing with a heap of youngsters(including Harley and Hewett, plus any mids we draft this year) for what is likely 3 midfield spots

Its a bit of a squeeze

Unless Brisbane play ball I’m bidding on Annable with pick 1 . If we do so they lose 2026 1st rounder to get Annable. If we don’t they keep that. Give them pick 32. That shoukd be the offer . If not they can lose 2026 1st and deal with that

Apparently being offered 1.1 mil x 4 years as per Mitch robbo and Rhys Mathieson podcast

If true he should take that, especially with his concussion issues.
Ay yes, Mitch Robinson and Rhys Mathieson. Possibly the only two people in the AFL media industry that make Sam McClure, Jon Ralph, Tom Morris and Sam Edmund look like respectable journalists.

One thing they have over the likes of McClure, Ralph, Morris and Edmund is that they were teammates of Starcevich for multiple years and are highly likely still friends... would trust their word of those numbskulls.

Is it possible to not attack the lions and make it a major thing that we happened to win a genetic lottery?

The lions did have the one assistance package granted. but the lions have had one player of note from father sons before the Ashcrofts and Fletcher and it just so happens this has coincided with when the club is a premiership force again and has been built back up through losing many players to go home factors and drafting well, then identifying key targets through free agency and trading (which has been far more fair than many other trades for top players from other clubs).

The lions have payed more than any other club for their father sons as well - was it enough maybe not but can we pull back on the AFL assistance for the lions argument.

Don't recall such outrage from the Victorian centric footy media and fanbase when the Daicos brothers and Darcy Moore landed on the Pies doorstep.

Are Carlton sweet with giving up the rights to Cody Walker in next years draft for the "greater good".

Lmao. You do realise the first pick gets a bonus, so the guy you actually get for pick 1 (which would be pick 2 after we matched) would feel slighted after that bid. Especially knowing it was done in spite. Fortunately, football departments are full of smart people who wouldn't ever risk ruining a relationship with their future player over something like this.

Also, your club holds relatively little power here. You're going to have to match an obscene offer of over 1 million per year to even get his preference, and even if you do, you will lose pick 2 because of it. Meanwhile, if we don't match the bid, he can easily walk to Essendon.

Oh no, a player's future with their club ruined over a $10k payment. Shock horror.

Thilthorpe appears to be going just fine, eh?

What a stupid thing to even bring up.

Well, considering how awful your club is these days, i guess i wouldn't put it past an organisation who made Oscar Allen apologise in front of everyone only to not offer him a contract to do something like this. Anyway, goodluck losing pick 2 if you somehow match Essendon's million dollar offer.

A player's relationship 'ruined' over a payment that roughly equals 2 match payments. Gee whiz.

We ain't matching Essendon's ridiculous offer. They are more than welcome to a half-back flanker at that price. Makes sense they'd go all in on him though, considering our former list manager works there now. He's obsessed with half-backs...

You’re the Dodoro of WCE posters. If you were in charge nothing would get done.

You seem reasonable in terms of assessing trades. If WC play hardball with Starcevich I can see Brisbane deciding they don't want to get involved with any other trades with them. If that's the case and Freo were interested in trading for Ah Chee what do you think a potential trade could be involving Freo and the Lions for Ah Chee?

I don’t know why we’d want to try to get him as a free agent, as brissy get nothing that way. Instead of asking the afl for not to dilute our compo, why not just ask for an end of round PP to give Brisbane for him? That way, we don’t screw brissy over.

Putting starce in the same sentence as Cole and 2025 Liam Duggan is beyond offensive.

Crows bound I think. Pick in the late 20s/early thirties probably fine. A future 2nd maybe a touch overs but probably what we’d like?

He doesn't play the flashy, in the spotlight role doing cool stuff through the midfield. But by god he's is a pillar in defense pivotal to us repelling surges and slingshots, providing defensive cover/overlap and shutting down opposition's dangerous smalls.

Absolutely worth a late first and more to be honest. No wonder he's only a RFA, our list management understands his high value to keep him in the top 25% earning bracket of our group.

Don't confuse the fact that FA compo gives picks that dont reflect a players real worth.
But in reality a) very few small defenders are worth a r1 (they are the easiest player type to get late in the draft) b) hes a decent role players but not an A grader and c) hes one concussion off a medical retirement.

Hes definitely not worth a first rounder.

Disagree on all counts. All it shows is you don't watch Starcevich much. This year's draft pool is so shallow compared to any other year, he's easily worth a late first.

I'd concur with the medical retirement part - but he's come a long way since earlier this year and is playing great footy now. I'd happily keep him if he wants to stay. Let's see.

I welcome Annable being bid on with pick 1. Then we can simply not match the bid, wait two years, he'll state how homesick he is and we can trade a late first for him then.
3 years.

By then he'll be loving it in Perth and have no interest in going back to Brisbane.

for every 3 year contract, there is also a Horne-Francis who went back in 1 year. But sure, go ahead and bid on him at No.1 :)

Tell you what, you should match Oscar Allen and force a trade. Eagles hold all the cards on that one too !
