Always amazes me how people try to read the tea leaves of every club decision. Two weeks ago West was being rested so he could debut against Freo.

Spot on. The idea of tactically assigning the captaincy as part of contract negotiations is somewhat overthinking it.

It was reported at the time the leadership group voted to appoint Nick Daicos as captain for the Anzac Day game.

Perhaps the leadership group voted this time round too or they just appointed Bruz as he's the other vice captain.

Either way, it's great we have so many leaders to step up in Darcy's absence.
