Maynard did a Fantastic Job and Ablett last night. Ablett had no Impact
Dave you are so right.

Great post.

Make no mistake whilst Ablett is an elite star and slightly regressing he’s mega dangerous.

Bruz stitched him right up after tearing a new one.

I’m really loving his controlled aggression and maturity. He’s much much better in attacking ball without losing focus on the ball.

Great job on Ablett, with Greenwood down he’ll have to be the man for Dusty.
Actually I like Maynard on Martin - they would never admit it but more than a few would be intimidated by the assignment before even crossing the boundary line - not Bruz - that boy is no respecter of reputations.

He may not be the answer but he won't die wondering.

He has a passion for the club which is extra important from a non Victorian player, don’t think we have anything to worry about when his contract expires

Didn’t he grow up in Melbourne, certainly spent his teenage years/secondary schooling here and was drafted via TAC cup traditional pathway? I wouldn’t classify him as a non-Victorian as his immediate family is in Melbourne.

Ahh didn’t know that, thought he was from Adelaide

He’s now destroyed All Australian squad members Toby Greene, Josh Caddy and Gary Ablett in finals games the past 2 years.

I remember copping it from some Essendon supporters for rating Maynard, because Orazio kicked like 5 on him like 2 years ago.

Edit: wasnt even 5 goals, was 4.

Doing well.

Two more games; two
More wins.

Bleeds Black and White and that’s what I love most about him. Determination and guts will get us over the line this year and he personifies it.

Perfect match up for Greene/Cameron...........and if the cards fall that way Dusty.

He has really elevated his game this year.

I can relate to him because we both have white line fever.

He tore Toby Green to shreds in last yrs final as well.

There's one spot on the pitch we don't have to worry about for a long long time.

Onya Maynard. You're a gem re.

Well Greene won't be playing against us IF they make the Prelim

He’s developing into a beauty of a player.
Aggressive, tough but above all else he can kick the footy beautifully which leads to making good decisions.

That's IF he gets suspended.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't get time. Whether it's 1 game or 2 will be the issue. Was ugly (face gouging, hand full of hair and smashing someones head into the ground), was dangerous, was clearly a premeditated shot at the Bont.

Let's hope he gets a lot of time. Someone on the ABC this morning suggested he should get 6 weeks!

This article on Maynard from ESPN gives a nice summary of how Mighty Maynard went about it on Friday night. I love him. He's such an honest and annoying footballer:

Gary Ablett agrees wholeheartedly with Nathan Buckley that Brayden Maynard is annoying.

The big difference is the Collingwood AFL coach smiles broadly when he says that about his hard-working defender.

Maynard's shut-down job on Ablett was critical on Friday night in the Magpies' 10-point qualifying final win over Geelong.

Given that only 16 goals were kicked in the game, the fact that Ablett went scoreless is a big feather in Maynard's cap.

"Annoying is the word for Brayden. I just can't help but smile when his name comes up," Buckley told Triple M the day after the win.

"He's a bit of a unit - he calls himself 'The Weapon'.

"He's got a very rude head and even rarer hairdo, but we just love the way he goes about it."

Maynard is a key part of the Collingwood defence, which enjoyed a solid night out against the Cats.

"He's legitimately tough, he's underrated for his skill and one you don't see from this side of the fence ... his communication, his leadership and his ownership of what we're doing is just going from strength to strength," Buckley said.

"He's a really solid young fella ... meat-and-potatoes, but that works for him and it works for us."

As soon as Maynard knew early last week he would be going to Ablett, he went to work studying video of the all-time great, nicknamed the Little Master.

Maynard was excited, rather than apprehensive, and even a bit starstruck when he lined up on the two-time Brownlow medallist.

It was the first time Maynard had played on Ablett for a whole game.

"He's one of the best players ever, so I had to really knuckle down and what he's good at - he's bloody good at everything, so it was hard," Maynard said.

"But to play on Gary Ablett, I was standing there thinking 'this is amazing'.

"I just love having the opportunity."

Every great line-up boasts a tight-knit defence and Maynard loves being part of their team within the team.

"We have a big six or seven with John Noble coming in and we're playing some really good footy," he said.

"It's a bloody fortress back there and I'm looking forward to seeing what us backs can do in the next few weeks.

"We're hard to stop when we're on."
