That excuse can only be used for so long.

Needs to show something, he is physically mature and not a 210 cm prospect.
Hard to show how physically mature one is when you keep getting back injuries and broken arms.

One of the most maligned draftees in recent memory IMHO. Has barely had a chance to show his wares, and when he did, he showed some encouraging signs and some high end traits (hands inside and bone crunching tackles). Has something to work with.

Why do I get dragged back into these threads?????

We always knew 2016 was a development year. He wasn't even playing regular TAC Cup level in 2015, so making the jump to VFL was going to be huge.

We basically took him as early as possible before anyone else caught onto him, and decided we would put the hard training into him making him ready as a prospect in 2017. Word was that the Doggies were also onto him which is why we went early. Turns out a smart decision because Crocker and Phillips were still available late.

We didn't get as much training into him as we would've liked because he suffered injuries, but there's no doubt the hard pre-season he did last year got him into better shape and he should be better prepared to attack this pre-season as a more mature player.

He is basically a new draft pick for us. I consider him as like an academy player in 2016.

To make any judgements based on 2016 is foolish and premature.

Bottom-ager from outside the system whose first season was ruined by significant injuries, (back, broken arm).

It goes without saying that we will be looking for a lot more from him next season but, no need to start issuing ultimatums just yet.

I could make yet another ill informed ultimatum, but why bother. Everyone seems content that we used our first pick 32 on him. He was considered the most left field pick of any in the draft. I would have preferred a safer pick, but those of you who like to live dangerously ....

Right.

Unless you all buy me beer right now, I'm going to microwave my 2016 membership.

Waiting....waiting....waiting....

Damn. :( I was looking forward to my 11 am steadier.

Let's assume he's ok, then it's worth it.
If not, not.

I think we could afford to live dangerously given we'd just picked up Treloar, Aish and Howe.
Given that it's been reported we were going to take Phillips at that pick if Sier wasn't available, I'd say that there's absolutely nothing for us to be complaining about.

Yep. If sier was our final pick instead of our first nobody would be bothered about his disappointing first season .

You are an optimist while I am a pessimist. I would prefer to say:

'Let's assume he is a dud, then it's not worth it.
If not, then we have an unexpected win.
Life of the draft (if you go for rank outsiders).

But he was our first pick so that's why people are bothered about his disappointing first season! On the other hand, if he had been a rookie, nobody would have given a shit at his underwhelming, injury riddled performance.

Honestly, there seem to be very few who are bothered about his first season, just a vocal minority.
Most posters understood that 2016 was never going be a season that we'd see anything really worthwhile from the kid.

I think HINE would have known that he would cop heat for the decision.

You don't make perceived "risky" decisions like this unless you rate the talent as exceptional.

I think it was a very brave decision that many others would have baulked at regardless of the talent of the kid.
