Honestly, there seem to be very few who are bothered about his first season, just a vocal minority.
Most posters understood that 2016 was never going be a season that we'd see anything really worthwhile from the kid.
'Most posters understood that 2016 was never going be a season that we'd see anything really worthwhile from the kid' and they were right. I, as part of your 'vocal minority', thought similar, and I am right also! Win win all round so far!

Yep. If sier was our final pick instead of our first nobody would be bothered about his disappointing first season .
Like Tim Golds being a wasted rookie pick. He copped it. Whether he's a final pick or first pick if you have a year like Seir did you are going to cop it.

Maybe, maybe not. Golds consistently spudded it up during his full injury unaffected season. I think a later pick would have some slack cut to them if they had a heavily interrupted season due to injury like Sier had.

The kid won't be 19 for 3 months. I'm happy to wait and see how he comes on next year. I saw a few plays this year that I thought showed something.

Would've been interesting if we didn't take him and he goes on to be a gun at the doggies...would love the posters then carrying on about how we shouldn't have missed out and out recruiting team is crap etc etc.

I knew he wouldn't be an instant success but it's not a good sign for a young big bodied midfielder to be struggling in the VFL.

Hopefully Hine has seen something in him and he has a massive development spike next year because he needs it otherwise he'll end up another Matthew Goodyear.

Correct me if I'm wrong but in his 8 VFL matches the most effective kicks he ever had was 2, and kicked 1 goal for the year? (Which was a 75 metre fluke that dribbled along the ground for memory). He only had 1 game where he had more effective kicks than ineffective kicks and normally struggled to get over 10 touches.

Yeah maybe I'm being harsh because he's young blahblah but if he has another season like this in 2017 I wouldn't give him another contract.

I'll put my neck out and say it was a big mistake not taking Adams Bonner Matheison.. hopefully this gets bumped in a few years when Sier is a superstar and I'm completely wrong.

Didn't realise he was that young, if he was to show anything it wouldn't be for at least another 2 years, but still hopefully that he'll make it.

Sier is similar proportions to Wills. Wills took a few years to develop. At Siers age Wills was playing in the VAFA I believe. We can't care him forever but Sier gets at least two more years I say...

76ers, Tiger Woods.
He reminds me of a quote from an NBA draft commentator when the Raptors took Bruno Caboclo at pick 20, which left most people mystified and saying who that?

The quote was he's 2 years away from being 2 years away.

Club will play the long game, but there will come a time where they will need to see something worth persevering with.

Hope it works out and he adds more outside to his game, as I'm not sure how many purely grunt inside players we need.

The kid hasn't even turned 19 yet.

Hard for anyone to dominate even VFL level- this is still a boy playing against seasoned men- some former AFL players.
I think a little more patience is required.
Lets see how he goes with another summer under his belt.

Big bodied mids take time as well, come next season i'd expect him to start holding his own at VFL level, 2018 he should be right for seniors (if he's any good anyway).

He' a big boy though, not some puny 18 yr old with skeletal legs. You'd think he might have made just a bit more of an impression at VFL level.

Thanks for that tip. I was just typing up a best 22 for 2018. I'll make sure Sier gets at least a spot on the bench now that you've said he'll be right to go.

he looked impressive in his highlight tapes in his draft yr looked good still young another preseason and think we will see a good improvement
The vast majority of his draft year he was playing against school boys, half of whom barely even care about the result.

Wouldn't be surprised if half of a 1sts team turn up hungover most games

End of the day he is a project player, they must have seen something in him to believe he had a future.

I had serious doubts over Cox, still have some but he has exceeded, same with Smith. He has some time but keen to see how he gets through pre-season.
