I was reading how his junior coach was saying he was a chubby kid growing up.
He really does look fit in the picture(s) from training that we've seen posted somewhere recently (probably in this thread). Let's hope that translates to on-field performance, I'm really hoping he can take a quantum leap next year.

Hope this kid can get a look in this year.

Would be concerning that our first pick from 2015 can't get a game in his first 2 seasons at a club as injury ravaged as ours. Unless he was injured too?

Correct. There's been a fair bit of research done on it in the US. Research shows that top age kids (kids in the older half of their year group) are significantly more likely to become professional sportsmen. The theory behind why this occurs is that they are more physically developed as juniors than bottom agers, which means they get more game time, more coaching and have more confidence because they are more likely to have dominated in their age group. I just find it interesting, I've got no idea how that relates to the bottom aged Sier, does it mean that he is less likely to make it because he is a bottom ager, or does it mean that he has more development left in him than the top agers have.
Not only that but statistically kids born in the first half of the year are far more likely to fill leadership positions such as captain etc. within their clubs.

I haven't heard much in recent times. I am based in Adelaide so don't get to drop in on training sessions as often as I'd like to, and need to rely on the reports of locally based types! Perhaps you could go along and check him out and provide a report yourself, it would also give you an opportunity to see close up the new star recruit who has you so excited in that other thread?!

I'm about 1 hour out of Melbourne and working full time so it's hard to get watch training during weekdays.

I've never said he wont be a good footballer. There isn't enough evidence either way for me to judge that.

do you think his value at draft time was 32? (pls don't say yes because we paid it). he was unknown. he is more like a late pick or rookie.

2015
While his fellow draftees experienced a taste of elite football in the TAC Cup, Sier spent the majority of his 2015 campaign playing school football for Marcellin and in the Northern Football League for Banyule. In his two games for the Northern Knights he performed admirably, averaging 15 disposals, three tackles and five clearances. His first against the Northern Knights was arguably the most impressive, with 16 disposals coming at 93.8 per cent efficiency.

2016
Born in December of 1997, Sier was the youngest man on Collingwood’s 2016 list. That, plus his inexperience at TAC Cup level (he played predominantly school football in his final year of juniors), meant he was eased into his first season on an AFL list. He managed eight VFL games, averaging 10.5 disposals and 2.1 clearances, with a high of 17 touches against Geelong in round six. Sier played just one game after round seven, with injuries restricting him to the rehab group in the second half of the season.

Sier is a big-bodied midfielder who stands at 190cm and carries a playing weight of 91kg. He arrived as something of an unknown commodity, given he played only two TAC Cup games before he was snapped up at pick No. 32. Not one for the conventional junior footballing pathway, he didn't attend either the national or state combines but spent the majority of the season playing for his school, Marcellin, where he won their best and fairest, while playing senior football for Northern Football League club Banyule. Sier's build and ability to win the inside ball are among his key attributes, and looms as an intriuging prospect as he prepares for his second season at the highest level.
Can only assume Hine rated him highest of those players left and/or they were concerned that he wouldn't survive till pick 58. Who knows, they may have rated Phillips as the best player available at 32 but were more confident he'd still be available at 58. Don't see it as an issue either way and will look forward to seeing how he develops. He was at the bottom of the draft age so bottom age, yet to turn 19, and had an interupted 2016. I think we'll no more this time next year.

Just trying to remember the last Collingwood kid to consistently struggle in the VFL then turn into a good player.

Really can't think of any
I didn't rate either Moore's or Maynard's VFL form as being worthy of a senior debut. Wouldn't say they struggled but certainly weren't starring. Think they'll both be okay. They'd be the most recent ones.

Nah, not so much.

Lots of glowing reports about Moore's last game but it was 3 disposals, and 2 pretty good marks. Luckily he kicked 3 goals with his possessions.
Showed great marking, great leading, great agility and speed... that's what got people excited.
