Traded Braydon Preuss [Traded to GWS for Pick #31]

The Dogs should be in the market for Preuss. English is still 4 years of being strong enough.

A good trade for both sides would be #13 for Preuss, #47, #62 and #63. The Dogs get a competitive ruckman and points.

We're not getting 13 for Preuss no matter how many picks you tack on.

Who's available, that can step in right away and be the physical ruckman they need?
They can get a better player than Preuss for 13.

They could get Preuss for pick 37 if they wanted a physical ruckman, not sure they actually want that.

Also pick 13 is worth 1212 points

Pick 47 - 316
Pick 62 - 123
Pick 63 - 112

That’s at total of 551. The dogs lose points in this trade. Melbourne would have to throw in pick 23 (815 points) bringing the total points to 1366 for the Dogs to gain points.

#37 in the most compromised draft ever for a contracted player that multiple clubs want and one we don’t want to get rid of would be a very poor result. No way I would do that trade.

And the Dogs are certainly trading out their early picks.

The Dogs aren’t losing points when trading pick 13. They need to gain points.

And we are happy to trade Preuss, his salary of $400k would be in the top 15 at the club, easily best 22 money. We want his salary off the books so we can target players.

Doggies will need a sh*t ton of points to offset P1.
Dogs will want to trade #13 for points.

The proposed trade valued Preuss at #29.
Dogs should be trading their 1st round pick favourably to the Crows to ensure no bid is made at pick 1, which saves them effectively a pick in the 30's... otherwise a large points deficit is looking likely.

I’m sure we’ll be happy to clear his salary and a deal will be done with some club, but we’re still going to want to get the best return. It is not just a salary dump. #37 in this draft is essentially worthless IMO.

The dogs will want points, but they also need a decent ruckman otherwise they will stay in the middle rung of the ladder. They can also go into deficit.

I’m not sure pick 37 is worthless. Sure we want the best return but pick 13 seems a pipe dream for Preuss. Melbourne need a key forward, could see something like Preuss for Schache if they were interested in Preuss.

Brayden Preuss is a very mediocre ruck. But because of his age and maturity his value will still approach a late 1st simply based on the rarity of supply.

After the academy selections, #37 gets the 50th best player in a draft where there been limited junior football and list sizes are being cut. The smart clubs will look to trade out of this draft and minimise the number of picks because of this and because draftees get 2 year contracts.

Even #13 is worth #18-25 IMO.

Ignoring the fact you're not getting anywhere near that for an average ruck who has played a dozen games. If it's really that much of a crapshoot those later round picks should hold more value with a number of possible guns maybe slipping through

If they cut list sizes it makes trades like this nearly impossible.
