Makes you wonder why they waited 14 months to charge him? Can't have been too many breakthroughs in that time.

They also could have asked for the information about the Toyota Camry 14 months ago!

Left it until the last minute, it could be seen as a tad convenient. Great news anyway.

Let's see what happens next week. I don't think it will make toooo much difference, it's not an excuse for the continual delay of justice either when they've already had over a year to find that car. It didn't just suddenly come to their attention, sure they've known about it from the beginning.

I think it will cause a delay. maybe not 14 months but there will be a delay while the Prosecution arrange for them to all be rolled in together and the Defence ask for time to prepare for the new charges and instructions

I'm baffled. The timing has really changed things. I had felt that they would have waited for a conviction on the other 2 before charging.

The one reason that was always mentioned was no body. Does that mean they did find a body?

Did Dans maps bear fruit? Ok that last bit is tongue in cheek

    TripleM wondering the same thing.

"There has been no indication as yet to whether the remains of Sarah Spiers have been located, but the news is sure to resonate through Perth and hopefully bring a semblance of closure to the Spiers family."

Is BRE talking? Someone else talking maybe .. or a deal is being brokered?

Could be for the chance of release on parole, rather than no hope at all if it's fixed for example at 35 years, he'll likely be dead by then. Or they have evidence we don't know anything about, they must have something.

    Edit: Clarity

can you get life with no parole in perth?
or do you need a minimum if you plead guilty?
maybe the evidence (if defense has it of course!) if clear as day its him?

Sorry for butting in but I was just looking at that.

Judges can refuse to fix a non-parole period in extreme cases although I don't think that's been done in Western Australia. The longest non-parole period imposed in Western Australia that I can find is 37 years, served by Adam Mikhail and his father Frank for a couple of shootings. Catherine Bernie got a 20 year minimum but the board hasn't approved her parole and one of the Attorney Generals said he'd refuse to sign off it anyway.

thats interesting its highly likely he will never get paroled even if a minimum is set, Julian Knight who killed 7 people had a minimum set because back then the law said you must set a minimum, government changed laws specifically for him so he will never be free.

If they never gave that guy who raped and murdered the school girl in the shopping centre toilet life without parole then they wont ever imo.

My guess is they found something to do with the VIN that was publicly released a while ago which completed the puzzle.

arthurs only got 13 years without parole which is pretty crazy, though obviously he will never be released

they are still trying to locate it.

I can't help but think it is some bullshit WAPOL mind games, doing it a couple of days before he was due in court. Stalling perhaps?

"He is due to appear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrate Court on Wednesday Feb 28 on this and other previously laid charges."

    From WAPOL live announcement.

Also said the vehicle (White 1992 Toyota Camry station wagon) they are looking for has still not been located.

Certainly appears as though there has been a "rapid escalation of events after a plea has been made" ;)

It could be stalling, as they have to go through the same process of full discloure of evidence to him, that they've just gone through for the other four charges. Doesn't seem to be any new evidence in the last 14 months, so why didn't they charge him with Sarah back then.
However no body, no DNA to process, no car, no physical evidence that we know about, so it shouldn't take that long.
But WA are just about to introduce no body no parole laws. The other two murder charges, there were bodies.

Interesting it was willful murder, so what evidence do they have?

... and Arthurs won't be listed as a sex offender, if he does get released next year, as he wasn't charged with the sexual assault.

Seems police nor Arthurs could prove whether Sophia was alive when the sexual assault took place, and in WA you can't be convicted of a sexual assault if the person is dead.
