I would love to be bias and say Olly H as I have a serious man crush on him!!!! But honestly, I think we might see the emergence of Cuz. There is a lot of love for Worpel but I think we forget what James was starting to show before his shoulder injury.

Lovell going to start R1?

I don't think any of us have any idea to be honest.

Seems as though he is in the mix with about 4 or 5 other players for one of the last spots in the 22.

From what I have seen at training he looks primed for a big year but not sure about Round 1.

This time last year you would have said the same about Glass who played 6 AFL games.

i saw Glass play for BHH and thought, "geez he will get a game soon", i saw Nash play in the same game and thought, "maybe when he gets used to this style of football, he might get a gig because of his size?"

2 very different players and of very different skill levels

players 25 and under who have made it
Mitchell, Impey, O'Meara, Sicily, Burton, Hardwick, Brand

players 25 and under who are likely to make it in 2018?
Howe, Morrison, Glass*, Cousins*, Lovell (maybe Worpel/Moore?)

players 25 and under who have not made it yet
Langford, O'Brien, O'Rourke, Heatherley, Miles, Pittonet, Lewis, Ross, Hanrahan*, Nash*, Jones*, Willsmore*, Jiath*

out of the youngsters who have not made it yet or expected to make it in 2018 or soonish. The best of those would be 1. Hanrahan - small speedy mid/forw who is an exciting prospect but needs a bit of muscle to survive the rigors of AFL, 2. O'Brien - a tall forw who can be handy as a target to bring the ball to ground and possible mark, but who is not very industrious, 3. Ross - this kid has a heap of skill and at his height could be impressive, the big problem is he is 15-20kg away from his AFL playing weight which could hinder his development, 4. Lewis - developing tall forw, showed some ability last year as a leading forw, in a couple of years might take the Schoenmakers/O'Brien position? 5. Heatherley - i like his passion and ability to play on talls, still gets a little lost out there and the coaching staff arent convinced, i think this might be his last year on the list unless he proves himself worthy of another contract.

for the other guys, they need to impress imo...
Langford - im not sure what has happened to him, but he is nowhere near where he needs to be
O'Rourke - injury plagued career, just has not shown enough
Miles - is a decent player, but needs to put on some weight to be considered a chance at AFL
Pittonet - struggles to mark, which is a big negative for a ruckman, is a decent ruck though
Nash - seems lost on the footy field, relies on being told what to do too much, has good physical abilities
Jones - young rookie raw kid from the bush
Willsmore - contract
Jiath - very raw, fumbles the ball a bit, not likely to be an AFL prospect, has good physical abilities

Ross, trying to pack on a bit of muscle at 118 years of age is doubtful

Heatherley gets my love.

Less likely than other names? Sure. More a prayer than prediction on my part. But I just like him.

Morrison for mine the kid in everything even we he doesn't have the ball he tackling and create things.

Lovell or cousins if there bodys stay healthy and are match tuff after a solid off season, they
can hopefully sustain 5+ afl games in a row.

Also i think sicily can almost double his output and become a agrade player. Becoming our most importamt defender.

I feel guilty putting higher expectations on Sicily. He is so good already. He had a few off games, so perhaps 22 weeks of consistency would be a great sign. If he does get better, as we hope, then wow!

Maybe I'm missing the point. Burton will be the break out player this year, like he was last year. He is the best kid at this club since the best I've ever seen in D Jarman.
Of the kids I like Harry, but JOM and Burton are the key to this team for the next 10 years. rare talents

I think David Mirra is going to be great for us in 2018.
The leadership department has taken a hit in the past 2 seasons - departure of Gibbo and Hodgey, the still raw departure of Mitchell and Lewis and the hefty burden on Rough last season in his first year back + first year as captain I think we (Clarko) has made an astute decision in picking up Mirra, a proven, successful leader of men for virtually nothing. There is obviously a massive jump from VFL to AFL but the respect would certainly be there from the senior boys and he could really step up and fill a void left by the champs. Whether it be on field, I think his impact on the squad off field alone will be a huge benefit for us in 2018. In saying that, I reckon we'll be seeing him down back at some point throughout the year and I wouldn't be surprised if he performs well for us.
