But he's not doing the pushing/shoving/tackling/body work that comes with the midfield. He might not be suited to the burst/repeat efforts required of stoppages.
Or possible just not used to it, but if he played there all match every match he’d be fine.

And your point is? Laird DID blow up after three minutes, but they still tried it. Smith wasn't a great success higher up the ground. The last few weeks have seen Sloane/Gibbs/Knight and rotations between the midfield and forward lines. We've seen Gov go back. We've seen Lynch push up higher. We've seen Eddie run off the back flank. We've seen Kelly moved to a wing (perhaps a move that should never be tried again!). Every club plays structures, and obviously try to have their best player for each position. This is not something new, nor is it rocket science.
Also, I wouldn't take too much our of Laird blowing up for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, he was moved in there mid game after we were already down 2 rotations. It's not like he was moved in there when fresh.

Also, Laird is not at full fitness as didn't come back from injury too long ago.

He has had other stints this year in the middle & has gone ok.

With Smith returning & we need to keep Kelly in defence/away from the midfield, we need to a combination of:
- Laird in the middle
- Milera on a wing
- Brown as a pressure forward (not this week as needed on Gray)
