On Tuesday I will be attending a breakfast in Mandurah where the entire Fremantle squad will be present.

The set up is that there are 12 to a table and 2 of the seats will be taken by players (every table will have 2 players).

I'm not 100% certain but I have been told that Polak and Gilmore are at my table.

If I was going to ask each of them one question, what would it be?
(Fremantle supporters need only post!)

I'd ask Polak if he had worked out your not supposed to put a tin of baked beans in the microwave yet?

As for Gilmore, I'd like to know what goals he has set himself for this year, realistically what does he think he will get out of the year?

Gee i could think of a hundred things to ask. But the question i want answered is:

1. Ask Polak if he wants to play forward or back? And if thats the same place the coaches think he should play.

Others would be:

1. Is Bell completely fit or still struggling/managing his injury?
2. Same with Hasleby?
3. Who do they think on the Fremantle list will catch the supporters by surprise this year?
4. Does Robert Warnock eat like crazy?
5. If they had to bet one someone to kick a goal for their life who would it be? (Fremantle list only)
6. Who will be the next captain?
7. Who don't they like?
8. Who has the most natural talent without working that hard?
9. Who work their gut off but doesn't have that much natural talent?
10. Who's got natural talent and works hard?
11. Who's got neither? (hopefully no-one  )
12. Is Haddrill fit and ready? same with Hayden?
13. Do they like the new coaches?
14. How is this preseason different to any other?
15. Did they like Larcom's methods and are they happy he moved on?
16. Who's CC's pet player?
.....i'll think of more later.

Ask Polly has he really got the PASSION for the purple or would like to be with his mate at the hawks?

Ask happy why he didn't put his hand up to be traded because he will be playing for soufs again?

Ask them why is it we generally turn in a Docker Shocker against the eagles ??

Are the players scared of them ?

Life's good.
I was seated with 7 freo supporters as well as Graham Polak and Ryan Crowley. Initially was told it was with Polak and Daniel Gilmore but was stoked to find Crowls at the table.

The 7am til 9am function was very well attended with about 200 people showing up. Every player, all the coaches, some senior admin and support staff were there.

After the mc, Cameron Schwab was the first speaker. He spoke about the club backing up its impressive financial/membership performance with an equally impressive on-field performance. He stated Fremantles strong football tradition was all well-and-good but he said that the people at the club (players and staff) wanted and needed to create their own history. The disappointment of missing finals was something that had made the group stronger. They have never trained with the intensity as they do now. There is a steely determination in everyones eyes. The young guys are really, really pushing the older more established guys which is great because its making everyone work as hard as possible to retain their place. Schwabby is a great speaker and pretty much made everyone feel as though you had better hang on because the ride is about to get dinkum.

Up next, CC. Chris spoke alot about supporters and fans. He highlighted the fact that Fremantle has an identity, a focal point. And Mandurah, being almost a southern suburb of Freo was the reason why we've such a large number of supporters here. He spoke about the development of players like Aaron Sandilands. He spoke about Robert Shaw and Robert Harvey coming on board. He spoke about the media and west coast. All the time speaking with that characteristic touch of humour.

Polly was quite a decent, down to earth young guy. He spoke very confidently.
Some of the things he said were that he might get a run up forward because Pav is out of the NAB cup. He's been doing a fair bit of training up there.
He said it was pretty devastating when Haddrill went down last year but reckons he's fully fit now and should carry on where he left off.
Sandilands is one of the best runners at the club.
Harvey already has had a positive influence on the team, he's getting a bit more hardness into them, he's alot tougher on the players.
(One thing I noticed when CC got up to speak Polly, Crowley and most of the other players I could see appeared to sit up and and listen as intently as the rest of the audience.)
The club facilities were great before but this year they have got a hell of alot more gym equipment and gear there now.
Ben Tarbox is miles better than Adam Larcom ever was. Larcom only ever spoke to the more established players who basically already knew what they were doing and rarely spoke to the younger guys who were the ones looking for guidance. Tarbox communicates well to ALL the players, unlike his predecessor.

Crowley, didn't say too much. He's alot bigger than I ever thought he would be. And by the way he wolfed down all the food in front of him then started on Pollys plate I think he's going to get bigger. In another post I descibed him as a tough little nugget. I'd like to correct myself and say he's gonna be a danger to all those around him! Great attributes for someone who is a tagger!

One thing that CC said was that "you get all sorts of people telling you how you should do things, criticising you for not doing it that way, you should have done it this way and why don't you kick it up the guts?! Criticism comes from everywhere". He said, "there isn't any need for anyone to criticise us, there's a professional group out there that does it, they're called the media!"
Polly said that the players don't take any notice of what is reported in the papers. Alot of it is simply made up by people in the industry who the club don't bother talking to anymore. He acknowledged that alot of the people in media positions are west coast fans so that's just the way it is.

I'm sure I left out some other points from the function but I think that'll do for now.

Cheers,
surfsup.

Awesome stuff surfsup... got a little twinge of excitement deep in my belly while reading that. Feel free to add anything else you may remember as it comes to you - we're a keen audience (maybe the keenest audience you'll ever get!! ;) ).

:thumbsu:

I sure hope we have turned the corner. Every season I get optimistic and look forward to the season and we know what happens.

I'm a cynic by nature and profession by and large, these breakies are a feel good exercise for the masses. I want to see some blood - opposition blood this season, and finals !!

Did Polly give any indication that he's extracted his digit ?
Also did he give any indication that this season is THE season ?

I'd like to know abit more about what Shaw is actually doing around the place.

Interesting to see Harvey is having a impact down there.
Thanks for the comments Surf !

" A fan's hope is football's most imperishable quality; every season it is
usually destroyed, and every season, without fail, it is born again"

Freo Shark that's all there is

Thanks surfsup.

Your post was a good read.

I paticularly like this "(One thing I noticed when CC got up to speak Polly, Crowley and most of the other players I could see appeared to sit up and and listen as intently as the rest of the audience.)"

The fact that you noticed their body language and concentration when listening to CC, and for you to mention it is probably the best news yet to come from this pre season. Because it is very hard to disguise body language and if the players did sit up and pay close attention then CC has not 'lost' them as the white ants would have us believe.

I've got that same sense of excitment but its not deep in my belly ... ... which in my case could be way deep... but its still a B word and is plural.

I realise that is completely gratuitous but I just had to share.

Good work, surfs up.

Did I mention that Murphy has left Medhurst for dead in the outrageous haircut stakes? You may have seen it on Ten news.

Polly also said that Crowley has had a really good preseason and should do really well this year. I think he might be one to keep an eye on. After the 'derby' in London where apparently he was the spark to alot of the incidents the NAB cup game could be interesting.

Peake looked bigger than what I remember him to be. (great!)

...and we had bacon, sausages, hash browns, scrambled eggs on toast, grilled tomatoes, etc, etc.....

burp!
