4. There is very little Carlton could offer St Kilda in a trade. St Kilda wouldn't accept any draft pick for Goddard, even #1, because it sets St Kilda's progression back four years in one spot on their list. Of Carlton's current list, St Kilda would probably accept Murphy for Goddard, and that's about it. Waite gets injured too much, and others simply are not of the same standard as Goddard.

You make it sound as if its your decision - its not.

Pre Season Draft.

To answer the original question, there is little chance of Goddard going to Carlton. Why?

1. Generally, the most important thing to an AFL player is a premiership. I cannot forsee a time, at the moment, when Carlton will win another premiership. They are clearly not "on the rise" just yet, but I would entertain an argument that that is about to happen.
2. Few players changes clubs, and much fewer good, young players change clubs. Goddard will probably finish in the top 5 in the B&F, and the better the player, the more likelihood of that player not changing clubs.
3. Normally once an player enters an AFL club old childhood loyalties fly out the window. Goddard is not homesick, and a move to Carlton wouldn't solve this problem even if he was.

Answered seriously enough? Now get off our page.

So supporters of other clubs aren't welcome to discuss (vs Troll) any topics here.
Allow me to adress some points:
1. Correct. I agree that the blues haven't risen yet, but maybe he thinks with the injuries to Gehrig, Kosi, Max, etc that the Saints may have had their chance.
2. Aaron Hamill
3.Irrelevant, despite what some of my colleagues think
4. Unless you sign him we won't need to offer the Saints anything. We just convinve Goddard that he'll be better off with us (this being the big challenge of the whole deal) and he'll go into the PSD.

I don't think he will be a blue, but only point 1 supports your case here, and money has been known to overcome this - see point 2. (from GF and Prelim to wooden spooner for cash and leadership role etc.).

No, it's not my decision. But having followed footy for a while, and gained some experience of how people behave during my 26 years on the Earth, I have proffered that opinion.

Brendon Fevola barracked for St Kilda as a kid. No mention of us last year when you were shopping him around, was there?

So far this week we have copped plenty on this site from, of all people, Carlton supporters.

You have an inferior side and an incompetent administration. As this has been our situation for many years, but not now, I revel in your discomfort. If now it only happened to Essendon.

If Goddard leaves St Kilda, of which, at very best, there is as much chance of happening as any other currently uncontracted player at St KIlda, then I will suggest he probably won't go to Carlton. You guys can offer him money, but little chance of success during his career.

Very short sighted considering at least eight or so more years of playing in him! You seem to think we won't have any success in that time? I seem to remember Saints winning another spoon in 2000 when we finished second in the regular season. Things can turn around quickly.
The only players at saints who have seen true success (ie premiership) are the 1966 side and those that have moved away from saints.
For what it is worth I don't think Goddard will end up at Carlton, not because he wouldnt want to, but because I can't see Saints losing him.
Bit strange not signed yet though I would have thought. At least then Saints may have some say if he did want to go.

Hey Sainters,

Just wanted to know whether Brendan Goddard is under contract for next year. Seems like he might be worth us hunting for if he isn't, the idea on our board is pick 19 and houlihan would do just nicely.

Thoughts?
No one really answered the question as to whether he is under contract. If not and he wants to go to Carlton in the PSD there is nothing the Saints can do. Remember Nick Stevens from Port Adelaide.
Rumours abound but heard that the deal is already done. Can only be refuted when someone from Saints say that he is under contract....

u saint people dont get it do u

if hes out of contract and wants to leave to carlton then u get nothing hes certainly not worth a top 5 pick in this draft but its not a matter of if hes for sale or not if hes out of contract and he wants to go u cant stop him

Goddard is a pick #1 with three years of match conditioning and three preseasons under his belt. Still has 10 + years as an elite of the AFL.

You would need a pick #1 plus another first round pick and a second or third round pick.
Dream on.
You can't afford him.

What could Carlton offer any top footballer except years of pain and promises of paper bags that they never pay?
Pot calling the kettle black.

Goddard certainly is not worth the number 1 pick in this years draft. Agree he probably isnt worth 19 and Holihan, but thats going too far. He has been serviceable, but not spectacular. Give me some statistics to prove he is worth even the number 1 pick. Doesn't look like a matchwinner yet. Your idea of pick 1, plus another first round pick, plus a second or third round pick is one of the single most laughable ideas I have ever heard anyone, let alone a mod, ever post. What could we offer him? The chance to be a part of a midfield in his boyhood team consisting of Murphy, Walker, Simpson, (soon to be) Gibbs and him. In four or five years time, when we have switched places, you will see what I mean.

I know I'll cop abuse just for agreeing with this guy, but I think he is spot on.

pick 17, fisher and stevens?

Gee, now you're talking. I'd just about do that if Goddard baulks at a new deal.

We'd certainly ask for your Pick 1, but the above offer isn't the worst I've seen.

Goddard + 27 for 17, Stevens & Simpson/Waite is what we'd probably ask for.

Doubt you'd accept. But worth a thought.

No, we get it. We just don't agree with you that he wants to go to Carlton. He did, once.

I don't think Carlton are winning a flag before Goddard retires, and I realise Goddard is only 21. Carlton are the worst on-field club since Fitzroy disappeared.

Aaron Hamill did leave a good club for a poor one for the money, but there is one factor you are forgetting: John Elliott.

I believe Goddard will sign a contract before trade week.

He wont win one at St Kilda either.

About as much chance as you getting a root.

You North suppoerter are little weeds, aren't you? Just because your team's supporter have a beef with me on another board, you take it onto a completely different team's board and make nasty, classless statements like that. You are pathetic, just like your team. Enjoy the trip up to the Gold Coast.

You're overrating your own importance a little by the bolded part. You have no chance of getting Goddard, unless you throw 'funny' money at him.Oh thats right, you haven't got anymore. My 'root' comment was more based on the fact that you're a knob, and that would be a highly irregular thing for you to achieve at the worst of times. But then you are Carlton, and f*ck the rest, even though oddly enough it is the rest of the competition who has f*cked you. ;)

if Goddard wanted to go to Carlton then St Kilda wouldnt get anything. Goddard would walk and get picked up in the PSD. why would he want to be traded to carlton when he wouldnt have to be all that would do is weaken his new club. still it doesnt matter Goddard is going nowhere. By the way Goddard has probaly the worst number 1 pick from the last five years and you are saying he is worth number 1 in this draft hahaha use are as biased as the Carlton board.

Why would a random Gold Coast Kangaroos supporter come on to a foreign , neutral board just to have a dig at me over something which has nothing to do with your team? Wait a couple of years mate, when you paupers are on the bottom of the ladder, we will see who's boss.

You've got a hide offering pick 17 and Houlihan for Goddard  - that's a troll alright

What, offer someone expendable, that you don't really want, for a player who just had his best season and ready to bloom -

How would you feel if I put up pick 27 and Fiora for Murphy - Outraged, insulted ?? An okay outside player for a gun. Dreamer

At least poster 'Brad Pearce' offered something realistic - #17, Stevens & Fisher

Tyre kicker..........:thumbsd:
