Well - I am just Commenting on the Bit.
 
He is 186cm Dave.

And yes your right about his size, skin folds are not good.
He knows this though and with right support he will get there, will take two
preseason's though his endurance will need to improve also.

I have been told its all mental with him. Has the attributes to make it but ability to handle the work required has seen him quit and return home previously. Pies apparently spent a lot of time with him so hopefully they have got him on board.

Problem for a kid with this sort of profile is that if he gets an early set back, ie injury, or poor form, he might just give it away.

Well worth the risk.

He would have to have a Good Season next year for us to give him that 2nd Year.

But he does what the Clubs sets him to do. He does have some Potential with his Speed and Long Left Foot.

Bit of a Risky Type Pick but has Good Upside
 
Players like this are the reason why I don't like having the drafts so late, or pre-season starting so early. That extra month of running/weights would do guys like Abbott the world of good. I know they can always train with clubs before the drafts, but still, would be better and more secure (especially for interstaters) for guys to be doing it in an "official" capacity.
 
You guys have to nickname this guy Postie, or Bandit etc. You just have to. As soon as I read his name I thought of the postcard bandit.
 
I went to school with Brenda and find it hard to believe he's only 186 centimetres – he's a unit. I sat next to him a few times in our year 11 history class and when he'd walk in, the whole room would feel his steps.

He's a tidy kick and has plenty of aggression, I'm not entirely sure about his athleticism but he wasn't slow off the mark or anything. Could be a typical half-forward or one of those classic half-backs who has the ability to clean up the footy, look up, and hit the target off one or two steps.

I think he was playing between Claremont and Royals in Albany a year or two ago but I read some newspaper piece where a bloke from Claremont said he'd go well interstate. That's probably true. I don't see an issue in someone lacking total application or being less fit. Pies fans should realise that – Tom Scully did beach runs on Christmas and that dude is a verified spud; do you really think Dane Swan ever went to every single training run at age 18? There is a massive lifestyle change and when you're paid to live in a new city to play football, I don't think you'll have an issue with training. Using the resources there are, he'll be alright. I always think you should choose natural footballers who are unfit over athletic monsters who can't kick and wouldn't know a lead if they saw 17 unfold in front of them.

I was hoping Freo'd grab him so I hope he goes okay. I like the Pies.
 
Obviously hope he is a success. But that video didn't seem anything special.
 
Awesome selection and exactly the type I want to take a chance on as a rookie.

Pity we missed out on Billy Evans though.

Initial rookie contracts are 2 years I believe. He would have to stuff up pretty badly for us to terminate his contract early.

Victorians might be allergic to moving even four suburbs away, but Abbott obviously moved from the south west to Perth (a four hour drive). Fellow Albany boy Marley Williams (not to mention Tarkyn Lockyer) are at the club. Not many country kids ask for a trade home because they're used to, accept, and even excited by moving. Not an issue.

As for half back or forward, I don't think that's anything unique. It's not like going from full back to the wing. They both flatter similar heights and builds and clean skills. Thus...

I like Hines comments on him and by the sounds of it, it's completely up to Abbott as to what he gets out of the game. It's cost us nothing but should mean everything to him as a player.

Having Marley here by the sounds of it will be good for both - unless of course they both now go on benders all weekend and cause trouble which unlikely but possible I guess.

Head down and fat bum up and he could be a real plus size for us.

I'm just happy that we seem to have addressed the lack of size and more so physicality at the contest with this seasons trades, drafts and rookies....oh, except for Varcoe and Armstrong I guess but I'll be honest and say that at their best they provide quality.
