Brenden Abbott

I said it was pointless to speculate about what the actual condition is, and for the record I agree that 76 is more intelligent than me.

Don't be daft! :P

Speculating about someone's mental health is a little different to speculating about the game plan.

So let me get this straight.

In a thread where the OP shows a public tweet from Brenden Abbott who mentions "inside battles", we shouldn't discuss this issue, but something completely unrelated to the OP?

I think we have been over this Ed. If you don't understand my point of view by now then it is best we leave it be.

Just shaking my head at the ignorance of this comment.

Depression (if Abbot suffers from it) is a mental issue that will probably have a large impact on his football career and likelihood of being drafted. Therefore I'd suggest that the original question is less ignorant than your comment.

Having said that at least two clubs (Collingwood and Geelong), in their pursuit of Mitch Clark, have shown a willingness to recruit someone suffering with depression.

Really don't see this delisting as a big deal, just don't think the bloke was good enough to play at the elite level. But in saying that I hope what ever issues he has going on he can concentrate on getting on top of it

Shame had high hopes that he would make it.....hope whatever the issues are for Brendan personally first and foremost are sorted and hopefully Pies could rookie list him again if he wants a second cracked at it

well i was commenting on someone saying that depression is one of the toughiest things in life...i would think ebola would win by a short half head...
Just give it up, will you.

You may be trying to be funny, but you are coming across as an insensitive ignoramus.

Curious. Did you watch him play? I did and thought he was a serious weapon at vfl level. Was definitely good enough imo. Mental capacity/depression the issue i reckon.

Wishhim well.
Who knows he may get another crack at it one day.
He may not make it BUT he was good enough to get on the list, rookie or not, and thousands of players never do that.
Playing footy at the highest level is rarified air, and careers can be fleeting, here today gone tomorrow.

so you're concerned how I come across? I suppose I should thank you for your concern. On the point of trying to be funny, I wasn't. Depression is serious but I thought your comment "There is not much worse in life than depression" was a little melodramatic. As for the need to give it up, I just clarified my original intention after a couple of people replied putting their spin on it. I hope that's ok with you.

Prob best you dont comment on things you dont seem to understand.

Can you imagine feeling that there is no other option in life than taking your own life? There is not much worse in life than that feeling.

Anyway that is my final say on the matter.

On the question of not understanding, depression is not all about suicide. It can be just a matter of not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. A quick look on google says
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions.
  • Fatigue and decreased energy.
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness.
  • Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism.

If Brenden is affected by any of these, it would have an impact on his footy. It doesn't have to go to the suicide level. Even if it does, it's treatable and people can get help. There are some health problems that are far less hopeful, which was my point.

btw, you seem to have this habit where you tell people not to comment on things. You did it in your last post to me. Something to be aware of...

This is becoming a little uneven as a thread, imo.

Perhaps it should be merged into the other thread and locked until more information is revealed.
