Your passive aggressiveness isn't as subtle as you might think.

If you seriously go back and read the subthread with Arrow you'll see he needlessly attacked me and I bit back with those facts you keep reminding me about... I didn't post after 14 of the losses either. Derp.

Eh, I'm done. This board clearly isn't for me and that's fine.
Relax man. I’ve butted heads with a lot of the prominent posters on this board. Just gotta back your guns. End of the day who gives a ****. Not like anything is personal.

Maybe he is upset about some of the lines of questioning rather than the idea of being questioned?

I find some of it odd myself, I am still struggling to understand what relevance there is to anything in whether he posted in a particular autopsy thread or not.

Is someone less of a supporter for not being a prolific poster? Are their opinions of less value than others? I don't think so.

I too would be a little upset by that line of questioning.
Correct. Having a dig at someone because they didn't post in a particular autopsy win thread is rediculous.

Who knows what he had going on that day/ week.

To me that's playing the man not the ball. Although you can get away with playing the man a lot more provided that that man is saying something against the grain.

I'm in a women only Carlton Facebook group. It's really positive and I enjoy chatting in there. I don't read the comments on the Carlton FB page, it makes me cranky.
There's a few Carlton FB pages...they're full of lunatics.

Unlike here :D

It was one point in a long discussion and it was because the other poster took it there. I don't agree it's playing the man to point out possible reasons for comments. IMO it's valid.

Not all one way

There are also posters that obviously play the man and not the subject no matter if they agree or not. They are obvious and IMO a waste of space

I shouldn't have drawn myself into this conversation as I can't stick around.

okay lets say that particular post isn't playing the man for arguments sake.

However I have been posting on this board (and reading every day... read much more than I post) for 7 years.

Have seen many posters driven from the board for having a different(or negative opinion/view of things).

Doesn't matter if they backed up their negative opinions with facts/stats/ references etc...

This board can be not very accepting of negative opinions (even if they turn out to be correct in the long run)

Depends if it's backed up with facts. I've seen some that have stated facts well and have had no issues. When people come on to obviously just have a whinge, vent, pursue an agenda or to complain then I have no sympathy

I can see what m182 is saying, there does not seem to be a lot of tolerance for anyone with concerns re how the club is travelling.
Losing creates anger/sadness/frustration; anger/sadness/frustration demands venting.

People who are experiencing all of these things choosing to vent these things online, and everyone is expecting reasonable measured discourse?

I mean, it'd be great if everyone was balanced and logical 100% of the time, but it isn't happening.

All you can do is be polite, and play the ball not the player.

Except for Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon. **** those guys!

I am not sure what the problem is if people come onto a forum and have a whinge or a vent ? Why do some find it so offensive?

Posters are entitled to their opinion and there is no site rule that says only positive and glowing endorsements of the club are allowed.

AA, what is your problem? Why do you expect that people who think the club will ultimately pull through this crap patch should just welcome all this negativity with open arms? It's not just the posters who are confident we are on the right track that are going hard in these discussions.

I am not sure why it is that opinions that dont concur with some people's beliefs need to be shutdown and in some cases ridiculed.

As i said just getting sick of the bickering that seems to go on.

I've had this little argument twice over the last two weeks with TheHeatleyStand.

People are absolutely entitled to their opinion. The issue is, if my opinion about your stated opinion is that yours is wrong/full of effluence, should I then refrain from saying so?

Freedom of opinion is not freedom from criticism. If you are unwilling or unable to argue your point, then you are either wrong or unable to adequately express your argument (for whatever reason; you could be unwilling to put in the time to do so. If that's the case for the collective, PLEASE try to do so!) and the criticism your opinion receives is warranted, provided it doesn't attack the poster, merely the argument.

It is important for ideas to be challenged, to ensure they hold up under pressure. In a way, this public pressure against Bolton is a good thing, as it will prove whether or not we've really changed, or if it's cosmetic. If I refuse to argue something I feel or think is correct, and a dominant ideology rises in my absence - 'We're Carlton, **** the rest' - then it is my fault if that ideology fails.

Argue every point, articulate why you're right or another is wrong. Strive to be respectful. But accept a challenge with rigor, energy, and most importantly with more than just your opinion.
