Bolton will find another home at another club as an assistant, his perfect role and will do well in it

Is he tactically sound enough to be a successful assistant, though?

His inability to adjust is not a great endorsement. May have just been carried and made to look good by Clarkson's systems.

See ya Bolton and don't let the door hit you on the way out..

Your tenure has been an utter failure and not one Carlton supporter feels sorry for you. You've got a quality group of players that should be pressing for finals like Brisbane are yet since this rebuild has began we have gotten worse each year. If it hadn't been for the prez's unwavering support you would have gone earlier.

Its time to bring back Ratts and take our footy club back to where we belong!

I feel for him. He has to go but feel for him. Had the best interest of the club always. The next coach will hopefully get the benefit of the work he has done the last 3 years, and Bolton none of the judos

Seems like the decision has been made, just a matter of logistics.
An unfortunate situation all round, but the club will move forward, as it must.

Bolton has been well compensated for his time, there will be no feeling sorry for anyone.
I can't reconcile that comment. I grant the structures and skills are poor at the moment. I do believe that to his own detriment, Bolton has coached to
develop players, albeit he has some favourites who receive more consideration than others. (fair to say most coaches guilty of this)

He has a list with a handful pf older players of whom very few are the right types to complement a young developing group. Murphy, Simpson and Thomas
are hardly the types to protect the youngsters. Kreuzer and Ed Curnow are the only developmental leaders in our top age group, with the exception of Lobbe who is no longer in the top 22 plans. Blokes like Levi an Jonesy need to concentrate on their own development . We are devoid of mature leaders. Never before has a club's short term future depended so much on one player's knee. Doc we need you....desperately.

I don't blame Silvagni and crew. The decent free agents and trade targets have resisted our overtures. We have been left with "scraps" to top up our
mature playing list. The catch cry of cutting too deep is crap. We didn't have the players to cut.

The perfect storm for Bolton, and he has been both committed and crazy for taking on the challenge. Situation no win. Then the bloody AFL change the rule
on runners so he has next to no contact with this ultra young group on game day.

No feeling sorry for anyone? A young coach with decent credentials has had his career all but ended. He will earn a living, get support gigs or lower level jobs, but his path to the top is cut. No chance of coming back like the former AFL players. He doesn't have the seniority for a Director of Coaching type role, although would be highly suited with his analytical and communication skills. I really feel sorry for him.

Na in his role he would be great as an assistant. Not necessarily a line coach etc but a link between players and coaches role. No doubt the players loved playing for him, just couldn't cut it as a head coach.

He's made multiple millions from the AFL system, lives in Brighton and has his teaching career to fall back on if he desires. He'll be fine.

I agree. I think he's had a thankless task. He's done it the best he can. He's protected a lot of soft, lazy, lousy players. Maybe he's protected them too much, and he'll eat the bullets.

Clearly some sort of major shake up is needed. I'd love it to somehow include Bolton continuing and success following. But short of firing half the team, assassinating the president, etc... I don't know what else is a big enough shape up to get a different result than the head coach.

Secondary source, not pretending it's correct. Just an argument with coaches that went sideways and he was 'rested'. Person might be pulling my leg, they might be correct. Can see it being true with some other things posted over the last year suggesting he doesn't like Bolton.

Could then explain Cripps game, against a second game player...

Poisoned chalice is the Carlton senior coaching role. And for those calling for Ratten’s return, that guy was burnt hard by the club he served - he’d be well within his right to laugh in their face if he was invited to interview for the gig.

Much overlooked contributor to our plight this year imo.

At the start of the season people were predicting this would affect young teams with less on-field leadership the most.

We have by far the worst senior on-field leadership in the competition.

Delusional - and if this is why we are performing so poorly it is yet more evidence the coach hsa NFI

A shit cook (our coaches) with good ingredients (our top end draft talent) doesn't make a good meal (a team that wins football games). There's not just 1 chef in the kitchen and clearly it's not just Bolton's fault. Happy enough for them to pull the trigger if we know he isnt the man for 2020 and beyond, maybe we play a bit freer and better once he goes and we get some sort of enjoyment out of the final half of the season rather than limp to another 1-2 wins
