With all the hype about this Willi seconds player, I was just wondering which one of his three possessions you thought was his best?
For me it was clearly the hand ball he had in the last quarter - what a ripper it was.

Still, it was good to see his Willi seconds form hold up.

Let's face it, if he wasn't 197 cm tall he would still be in the Willi seconds - don't get me wrong, that is clearly more suited to his skill base and his ability.

Where was this hype? Most people including myself said he wasn't ready to play seniors but who do we have left? I'm interested in knowing who you would have played as our reserve ruckman in his place. Would you agree that with Fraser, Richards and Rocca out it limits our options somewhat.

You still haven't answered Hotpie's question as to who else we were going to put in the team to help Fanning in the ruck.

He actually made some good tackles and chased players down in our forward line... He made an effort, unlike the most of our forward line

And lets not rag on a first gamer...

I personally think hes not ready yet, but once he works out hes a ********ing MEAT AXE and can make a few backman feel the pain.. hes gonna be a good player

Our forward line is OFFICIALLY ********....

everyone keeps bagging the delivery to the forward but this is not the only reason. Granted the delivery is not fantastic... but if you actually watch the game ( from the upper seats in the new stand ;) ) you can see what they are presented with when running towards goal .... SFA ... nobody makes a lead... and if ONE person makes a lead the opposition are onto them like ******** on a matress...

There needs to be more forwards presenting..... (a lead, not a sexual connotation)

Our forwards did SFA.... most displeasurable to watch...

Oooh, you seem fairly adamant that I have to do what ever Hotpie (and apparently you too) tell me to do.

Where ever did you get that idea?
Was it something I said?

Is it based on the number of posts you have made, you know like being in school - the big boys get to push around the other boys.

I hate to break it to you like this, but I post what and when I like and in response to what ever I want.

That is not being overly blunt is it?

His official stats were
2 kicks
1 handball
1 mark
1 clanger
1 free
2 tackles

My point was and still is, if he was not 197 cm he would not have got a look in at selection.
He was not selected on skills or ability or previous form.
In fact his form at Willi 1's was so bad it should have excluded him from selection.
He was only average in Willi 2's and as I said that form line carried over to his first game.

I made no comment on his future.
I made no comment on who should have been selectd ahead of him.

My only comment was:
AT THIS POINT IN TIME HE HAS DONE NOTHING TO WARRANT SELECTION IN THE SENIORS
He was selected because he was 197 cm
If that is the criteria for team selection is it any wonder we are in the botton 4 of the ladder.

Congratulations mate... captain obvious....

What were our alternatives... no rocca, no richards, no fraser, no cam cloke, no Walker... its looking like we might need another tall to fill the gap... gees who's left ????

The season was over about 8 weeks ago... they need to try new blood to see how they fair.... If they didnt try new people you would be making a fuss....

YES he wasnt ready... and YES i don't think i would have selected him unless there were very few other choices...

AND GUESS WHAT.. there were very few other choices...

No idea what you are trying to get at ?????

He's a developing player who was forced into the fold early because everyone else went down around him , we had no other genuine back-up ruck options.
To have a crack at a bloke playing his first game when his more experienced teammates were not exactly instilling him with confidence , is pretty ********weak.

But you see it was not that obvious to many people on this board or was that just a lame attempt to have a crack at me?

Who rucked nearly all night?
Fanning was on the ground for 108 of the 123 minutes of the game ie he was off for only 15 minutes spread over 4 quarters which equates to about 4 minutes a quarter.
Travis could have rucked in the F50, (Jason or) Presti in the B50 for those few minutes.
The Booch or Davies or could have also been the replacement for Hall giving us another on ball option.

Hall did nothing and his prior form suggested he would do nothing

BTW you do know what I am getting at because you answered the post and were (attempting to) debating the issue with me, so please there is no need to play cutsie.

Gee, I don't think anyone has ever used that saying on these boards before.

You can use it as a cop out to dicontinue the debate if you like but it probably says more about the weakness in your agument than it does about mine.

Hall's debut didn't really lend itself to an opinion of him one way or the other.
At least he made an effort.
Very raw and appears at least a further year or 2 from making a legitimate impact. Patience is the word. They've afforded it to Richards, will they do the same for Hall.
Dean Cox was very similar in formative years, but, that is not to suggest that he'll be as good.

i was in the 'has to play out of necessity' group....totally agree with Murray that his form didnt warrant it, but we needed a backup tall to both play as second ruckman, and also add height to the forward line

if someone is fit and ready to go, he will be back in Blue and Yellow next week, if not, he will most likely get another game playing the same role....and notch another development game under his belt

at least we have had a look at him before season's end to be able to see if he could possibly continue on with the club into future seasons, or we cast him off at seasons end with a few others....he showed a few positive signs, you couldnt expect big things from him in game 1, good luck to him in the future

Formerly L-Nizzy
hmm i always thought L-Nizzy was female?

lol

Anyways bak onto the subject... How could playing a new youngster possibly be deemed as a negative??

I want them ALL to play this year. At least we'll get to see who's got it and who hasnt. Wether he has it or not is for mick to decide, but playing him was definitly no mistake

Completely agree. Why not play him? We won't make the finals, so the last 6 weeks should be preperation for 2006. We may as well see him play now and decide if he is good enough.

Although his profile sounds good, I'm not sure if he has the results to deserve a game. Tony Shaw said on the radio that he has watched Willi's last 4 or 5 games and he has struggled.

Atleast Cam is back this week so we can send him back to Willy to rejoin forces with Big Bad Billy

Nobody was arguing that Hall was lucky to get a game because he was the only player available.

But he deserved a game because in football you choose your BEST 22.

Your point is wrong. By staying uninjured he's done more than the other ruckmen.

Team selection is about team balance. Sometimes players with form miss out and other times players without form get a game. But you pick your best 22 on the day. Hall was the only choice for second ruck, unless you think Brayden Shaw or Shane Woewodin would have done a better job.
Thanks for supporting two of my points.
1. Nothing HE has done warrants his selection.
That has been my issue all along.
and
2. You are not really that bright. Why would anyone suggest Brayden Shaw or Shane Woewodin would be good in the Ruck - I think you have finally lost it.
