He is still on the rookist, but there is space to elevate him if required (and if it isn't too late in the season - I think rookies can't be elevated after round 17)

He seems to have come on well as a third forward type - one which we have in surplus now with Rusling, Reid, Medhurst, and Anthony still shaping as a tall forward as well, to go with the talls of Dawes and Cloke.

This could be an area which we trade from to get midfield talent. I was saying that about our third defender position as well, but now that Anthony can be shifted into the forwardline, and Macaffer is looking ok, maybe we need to use this area as trade bait as well

Possibly Didak and Rusling to Port for pick 3 and either 3rd round pick / fringe youngster?

what has goldsack done wrong in the last couple of weeks?
his defensive effort on saturday night was sensational
did you not see the tackle on milne when he was 20m + clear in the first quarter????

i think the problem with footy supporters sometimes is they get carried away with the attacking aspect of the game and dont value the defensive efforts ... granted the aim of the game is to kick more goals than the other team, but if you can stop them from kicking them it makes life a hell of a lot easier

For starters, Macaffer plays out of the goal square and his job is to kick goals.

Goldsack plays at the other end of the ground!

Secondly, Goldsack was excellent on Saturday night, why drop him!

8 goals 4 no less.

Impressive effort. Deserves a look in the seniors.

i havent seen this kid play.. maybe he should get a call up.. 8 goals are 8 goals.. but who would we sacrifice? after such a dark week the future is looking bright at collingwood.. ty fig

Is he on our senior list now?

If so - drop Goldsack and bring in Macaffer
Give the kid a go Mick!

Would love to see him get a go, but Goldsack was a very good contributor on Satdee night. A poster on another forum said it was ther best 4 possession game he had seen, and I quite agree.

Only problem with Macaffer is where does he fit in?

Not sure there's room with Cloke, Anthony, Dawes and Medhurst already in front of him.

I have seen him play in the VFL. He is a fantastic kick for goal very accurate, just what we need. It is about time we are starting to get players that can not only get the ball in the forward line but kick straight. With Anthony, Medders, Davis and now Macaffer all fantastic kicks for goal things are looking good.

Give Macaffer a game this week I say, only thing is who do we we drop??

P.S. I heard that Macaffer was gonna be promoted from the rookie list this week.

hey guys i asked bluey mckenna about macaffer in the room.

he said two weeks ago they where looking at bringing him up and just told him,
mentally he didnt handle it to well and he had to off weeks in the vfl.

he said they at the end of the year would most likley bring him in,
and said a few of the vfl guys may be rookie listed for next year.

cheers

be great to see him elevated, with mm comments the other day its probably nearly assured we weill promote him to the proper list next year off the rookie list.

which is great considering many on here thought he was gone off the list last year even though they do get two years on the rookie list.

agree with most said above though, goldsack was great the other night despite not having a lot of possesions. his defensive nature was great , some of his tackles were massive. i think hes starting to get back into some form after some injuries earlier in the year and a bit of bad form.

The limitation isn't on when players can be elevated, it's on when the senior player can be put on the LTI list. As we've done that already, MacAffer can be elevated at any time for Rusling.

Spot on, he's an excellent kick and promises to be very damaging with the opportunities he gets.

Bloody hell...I hope not! They are VFL through and through!!
Maybe he meant that some of the senior-listed players currently playing VFL might be delisted and re-rookied? :)

I am still not 100% sold on Maccafer's VFL form being that which will translate to AFL. I have used this example before, Aaron Edwardes kicked an amazing 120 goals or something at VFL level but you wouldn't have guessed it based on his AFL outings.

When your midsized and not super quick it is pretty hard at AFL level, playing taller and having good hands and smart leading is often not enough at VFL level, as defenders tend to be a lot quicker, as well as the fact that a lot of bigger defenders are quicker.

I disagree. Edwards seems to get by with his strength and very nice pair of hands, which is enough at VFL level to dominate, but at AFL level you need footy smarts.

MacAffer seems to be effective based on intelligence rather than physical attributes. These kind of players are far more effective at AFL level than your physical player who can throw around VFL players.

Well he Lead the TAC Cup in goal kicking in his last year where he kicked 75 Goals.

So I Guess he is a Good shot for goal:thumbsu:

as for who to sacrifice, alan toovey and ryan cook have shown very little playing AFL to warrant more chances

Cook has had 2 good games and a poor one in a poor side this year.

Against Essendon he did a fair job tagging Stanton and got a bit of it himself. Hawthorn he was poor but so was everyone and Saturday night he did enough.

He has a fantastic tank and can run hard all day, and on saturday was very willing to get in and under and his skills are passable. He wasn't outstanding but he did enough to get another game as did Toovey for that matter.

I'm not doubting you TRS, but Rowdy said in the VFL wrap-up on the website that he thought Macaffer had to be elevated this week if he was going to play seniors this year. I thought Wellingham had been elevated for Rusling, or was he a nominated rookie?

Wellingham was elevated for Brad Dick.

I haven't heard Rowdy's comments, so I can't speculate on what he might have meant...

I share the same reserve about him. He deserves a chance at some point to show what he can do though.

I haven't seen too much of Macaffer but do those that have the see him playing a similar role to Medhurst in the forward line because of his size? Also does he have the ability to play a crumber role when the ball hits the deck?
