In my book (not the exact terms used by the tribunal):

- Incident was in play.
- It was intentional.
- It was high.
- It caused high level damage.

Probably deserves suspension, even though it didn't seem like he hit him hard at all.

This is whats wrong with the AFL. To soft by far. Once upon a time that was a part of footy. Soft umpires and protected players. No hard players left.

This isn't coming from bias but I was at the game like most of you would have been and they replayed it over and over, and Moloney didn't line it up, he didn't have his eyes on Bartel the whole time and he tries to minimise the contact.

I agree, if he'd been trying to clean Bartel up he would have kept his eye on him.

The AFL seem hellbent on stamping out all contact & Beamer will probably be the fall guy. I hope the club contest this, because it seems that all of the damage was caused by the MCG turf. The seriousness of Bartel's injury hasn't helped Moloney's cause, but thankfully he'll be ok in a few weeks.

I hope Moloney is playing this week-end, even if it make life worse for the Saints. The incident looked to me like a free kick and nothing else. If he is suspended, the tribunal takes another step towards netball.

this is the way i see it.

if moloney's body was what caused the damage and he was delibratly going for bartel then bring on a month or perhaps more, he deserves it.

on the other extreme moloney barly touched bartell and it was completly the impact on the ground that did the damage.

so basically it was either moloney or the ground that caused the damage and from replays it looks like it was the ground. but because of the seirouslness of the injury, the AFL has come up with a punishment somewhere in the middle.

i know we all feel sorry for bartell but it wasnt moloneys fault and for the AFL to set an example by using him is just not right.

im glad we are contesting this. even if we loose, he will still only miss 2 games cos his points will be about 270 while if we pleaded guilty it would be 210ish

I'm a mad Melbourne supporter go to every game I can but I can't see how he can win...

Take the rose coloured glasses off boys - how can you not protect a guy who has his head over the footy? Moloney did change his line and hit with his hip. Has to be stamped out at all levels of footy before someone ends up in a wheelchair...

I was listening to the game on Friday night on MMM, and they made it sound really bad. After seeing the replay on Channel 9, was there impact? If any, very little. It's obvious that the ground caused the damage. It was going to be a fair hip'n'shoulder, until Bartel kept going down ... and down ... and down! He ducked his head further as he got to Moloney, a 2 match ban is harsh, 1 would be okay, but he should get off !!

News from a post on demonland that Moloney has been rubbed out 4 2 weeks. To put it in simple terms, this is an absolute joke.
White Line Fever have reported the same. Disgrace when you consider Lloyd has no case to answer for breaking Josh Thurgood's cheekbone.

It's officially Netball!

Lets all make a stand against the afl, something like gathering people names and sending out an official letter to the AFL on this mattter! We have to do something, does anyone have any ideas on this one?
