I agree with your point, but to be fair, it's one good game more than Reilly.
Cmon DT his Wizard cup Grand final 2003 was excellent, and he carried that form into the first 4-5 games last year.

Skippy good game last week - absolutely, but there is no comparison on talent, and at the end of the day the lad will prove one of us right;)

Guess similar discussions have been held on Travis Johnston. On his day he is a superstar, but injuries has really curtailed his value, and he's played average footy.
But his talent is undeniable.

Johnstone's talent is undeniable, but he has produced only ONE season out of however bloody many he has been around.

If that's all Reilly is going to offer, trade him now.

And why is Reilly's talent undeniable? He looks ABOVE AVERAGE in SANFL but no superstar. At AFL level he looks slow, lacks awarenss and his disposal is terrible.

I and 15 other clubs would take Johnston in a heartbeat.

On Reilly we just have to agree to disagree - TWT;)
But he definately not slow, and his disposal is above average.

At AFL level he has been slow, and his disposal has been poor.

I would strongly suggest you bring out some game tapes from last year, rather than making comments on his last couple of appearances.

And on his games this year you base your opinions on his skill set based on a couple of poor game decisions.

Who are you talking about? It's Travis Johnstone.

Credibility rapidly dwindles if you wax lyrical about a player whose name you can't even get right.

You'd take Johnstone in a heartbeat FOR WHAT?

That is the question. It's unrealistic to give up much for him because he is possibly the most woefully inconsistent player in the league.

One good season and occasional good games does not make a career.

We'll see if he can reproduce it regularly.

And I would be very, very happy to be proven wrong if he can produce what he produced today regularly.

Only question is accountability to his direct opponent...Davey kicked a few on him today...

That can be worked on though.

Isn't it embarassing when people put their foot in the mouth and show their lack of footy knowledge.

Reilly showed today with 30 disposals just a glimpse of his potential.

Given, according to some his poor disposal, it was a brave move then to play him as the designated kicker:p

Another brave move then, again given his lack of pace by some, to play Reilly on the fastest man in the AFL.

Have a look of the replay and listen to the third qtr remarks by Healy (who has a great deal of industry credibility, and is not prone to exaggeration) who says Reilly will be a "star".

Embarassed - no you'll probably have some comeback, but I would suggest you will be a minority:)

I said I would be very happy to admit I was wrong, are you so pathetically petty you need to rub it in?

Actually, I will make a few points about what you just crapped on:

1. Davey drilled him for pace, Reilly was never near him and Davey kicked 3.1

2. Designated kicking is a lot easier than disposing well in the heat of the game

3. Healy make a lot of big predictions that don't come off, keep the bullsh*t dribbling Wayne's_World

4. 'Lack of footy knowledge' - not that's just the likes of you, to give aplayer who had shown NOTHING such a soft ride while you gave others such a hard time

And again..he has to reproduce this form regularly, as you have said about other players like Skipworth who produce one good game. Again, your need to give him a 'soft ride' is showing through.

One swallow does not a summer make. Let's hope he goes on from here and it's not a flash in the pan.

And what's all this nonsense you're carrying on with? If he had a disappointing game today I wouldn't be going on with similar "I told you sos"... it's body of work i'm concerned with, not one game.

?

I'm not prone to rubbing anything in, but when people bag the daylights out of any player - then they should back it up with some facts, not observations from 1-2 games.

1) Davey was always going to have a pace advantage - nothing inciteful in that comment
one goal lucky, but in the total scheme who was the more damaging?
2) so designated kicker in todays game is easy is it
3)What predictions are you saying from Healy hasn't come off? just name 1 that'll do

And again..he has to reproduce this form regularly, as you have said about other players like Skipworth who produce one good game. Again, your need to give him a 'soft ride' is showing through. [/QUOTE]
I'll repeat once more its about having talent firstly (like Watts who also hasn't produced it yet) and seeing it developed and produced consistently.
Reilly has it, Watts has it, others have defects in their game that will prevent them succeeding at the AFL level.;)

Doesn't mean that players on an AFL list who don't make it are hacks, just they lack that neccessary ingerdient for success ;)

"Reilly is great"
"He'll come good"

What's the difference, oh great one? Ever thought about a job powering hot-air balloons?

Yes, you are such a great judge of football aren't you?

Plenty of players with deficiencies have become great players - Christ, Liberatore won a Brownlow and he was little more than a scragger.

Plenty of players with skills to burn have gone as duds. Johnstone is probably, fair to say, a dud. A great disappointment, anyway.

You're so determined to give Reilly a soft ride, yet every other player who tries hard but doesn't have such exquisite skills gets slammed for oen bad game by the likes of you.

Reilly deserves to be looked on harder because he is supposed to be so skilled and we invested so much in him.

Yet you're harder on the players for whom a great performance is a pleasant surprise more than an expectation.

Just so I'm accurate which player or players are you referring to?

I am more than happy to eat humble pie but I want to see Reilly produce this on a consistent basis. If he does so then we have no problem. If he only produces it once every five games and in the others gets minimal touches then we have reason to demand better. One game does not make a season but at least we have seen what he is capable of - now to produce it regularly.

How many bloody games has the kid played ??

If he can string a number of games together & stay sound then i believe we will see a lot more displays from him like the one we saw today.

Well done to Reilly. He's even learnt the elite midfielders' trick of racking up soft disposals ie. running behind a player with the free/mark to receive a handpass :).

But seriously, Reilly was great today.

I knew someone would bring up Davey in this.

Firstly Davey has kicked 3 goals and didn't really look all that dangerous. Secondly one of his goals was a gift from Rutten from a kick in which went straight down Davey's throat.

2 other goals were goal sneak specialties. However, give me and attacking HBF that racks up 30 possesions and sets up a number of goals with his disposal even if his opponent kicks 3 on him. Davey wasn't really his usual self today and you can only really say that he kicked 2 goals on Reilly.

I also find it interesting that a coach would give a slow bloke a job on Davey who is one of the fastest players in the league.

That was Doughty.

If Reilly is given regular game time to prove himself, I'm confident he will become a gun player. I have no doubts about his ability to use the ball or his courage ... but he needs to show that he can perform like today on a consistent basis - but must be given the opportunity in all our remaining games. Was also impressed by his talk directing team mates around him, including Roo. Also, it is no picnic kicking in. 1 mistake & goal by the opposition - just ask Dogga.

Good call. I like the kid and I hope he can hold down a spot in defence for us regularly as it allows us to play Edwards in the middle.
