I always thought out of Williams and Collins that Williams was the one more likely to go on with it. He performed well in a couple of away games early in 1997, and I put store in that - the sort of guy who doesn't need to hear loud cheers to play his best.

As it turned out, Williams never played seniors for the Dees but Collins was good enough to play in a GF team.

I remember hearing John Reid on 5AA when we drafted Williams, and he said something like "there's a bit of Carey about him". He must have been referring to his sexual exploits or something, because it certainly wasn't a similar footballing ability they shared :)

Mark Stevens was simply lack of opportunity. He was stuck behind John Longmire, Cory McKernan and the best player in the last 30 year, Wayne Carey.

Jason McCartney has been at 2 clubs and been coached by 2 very good coaches (Mathews and Blight) yet could not find a permeate spot, lucky for him he meet North’s and Dennis Pagans specification for a defender.

Nathan Bassett was fit for about 3 months at his time at Melbourne (during the summer months) after that he broke his sternum and at the end of his first season asked to be traded to Adelaide.

Scott Steven was drafted in 1999, why has it taken him 6 and a bit year to establish himself in any side? Has it been a lack of talent, simply opportunity or is it purely luck that he found his niche in a winning side?

How come he hasn’t been able to hold down a spot before now at his time at the AFC?
Does that make him a bad player?

How come Rutten has become AA FB under Craig but he was on the verge of getting delisted under Ayres?

Are you trying to make a point if a players is struggling at one club it means he is no good? Take a look around the league, some very good players have become VERY good players under different coaches.
