News Brereton's 2 page assessment on Vickery

Dermie again proves himself one of the best at telling it how it is....

His individual example of the Ellis kick under pressure v the suns is excellent.
Our forwards are often leading to a spot which would require a one in ten brilliant kick to make it - late in the game when midfielders have run 20 odd kilometres and the legs are burning, under pressure... expecting them to nail a low fast 55 metre kick to advantage.

Hope it's not too wet tonight so that we can see how Tyrone and the others respond....

Listened to him on SEN this morning. Thought it was great assessment. Don't agree Stylo that it was a slap.

Very, very good article by Dermie. Shows how smart of a footballer he was, its all about the basics as a forward. Nothing magical is needed, just smart, hard work. I've gotta say, the part about him never taking the ball at its highest point is literally spot on, even Griffiths does that a hell of a lot better. I still believe in Tyrone, hes still young, but he really needs to start picking up the pace and stop blaming team-mates.

His whinging pisses me off more than anything.

That play with ellis was a disgrace, ellis had been running at full-pace with 2 suns up his ass and vickery wants him to kick a 55 metre bullet so he can kick an easy goal. F**king lead at the ball, give your team-mate a chance. Then on top of that he blasts Ellis

This part
"Another golden rule for the mobile marking half-forward is: every time a teammate looks up when under pressure, he must see you running to where it is easiest for him to kick the ball. You have to be his safety net, his get-out-of-jail card. For that, your teammates will love you because they will trust you to be there when desperately needed."

so simple, yet so smart. its about positioning and awareness. Vick, for all the skills he possesses, seems to lack this at the moment. but more specialized training can and will improve that.

About time someone gave this bloke a bit of a kick up the backside.
Under performs far too often in my opinion.
Needs to start showing something consistently.

It certainly wasn't a fluff piece, that's for sure, but I didn't read it as a major slap.

I see a couple of points as very constructive feedback for TV and a couple of easy fixes to really help his play.
I'm sure the internal guys are well aware of running patterns etc they teach it ad nauseum to the forwards, and so the "Ellis incident" would have been well and truly covered in his review meeting.
Hope he answers the challenge tonight.

Another things, are our coaches not teaching him or is he not learning?

Which is it?

Also, can't believe after almost ten years of this bs, we as a club haven't stamped out yelling at teammates yet. Mind boggling no other clubs do it as much.

Dermie confuses the hell out of me. He is so capable of making such insightful comments and i have long wished we would get him down to work with our KPF as i don't think anyone understands the game from a forwards perspective as he does and this article shows that. But he also has a habit of saying some stupid things like slamming Dal Santo over his first game at north, he wasn't great but nowhere near as bad as Dermott made him out to be (And lets be honest probably played like he did at saint kilda but was covered by having Hayes and Co make life easier for him).

Do you think the media are trying to psyche our players out of this game?
Dermie would not give two hoots who wins in this game.

Too much advice.

No wonder Jack put a media ban on himself to stay away from the vultures.

Pretty accurate summation of his rd 1 performance. But it was just that, one game. I don't see any articles on other players like the 3 possession man Drew Petrie outlining what they were shit at last round. Give the kid a break, he will come out and play a good game tonight and the tiges will be on their way.

I actually think you're quite wrong there. Most in the media hate us but Dermie has always had a soft spot for us. He was actively cheering for us against Hawthorn last year.

I am a fan of Vickery... but that is a fairly poor comparison and a real cop out - Petrie was faced with a pretty serious quality/quantity of supply issue, to the point where they had to throw him in the ruck just to get him a touch. Vickery had plenty of the ball directed his way.

Unfortunately, nothing from last week suggested that he will have a good game tonight but I hope he proves me wrong.

Disagree, was at the game against Gold Coast and while the example of Brandon Ellis that dermie used in his article was correct, there were countless times were vickery had led up to the ball only to have it kicked directly at his opponent making him look pretty stupid. All I'm saying is it is a bit silly to write someone off after one game. Nothing from last week might suggest to you that he will have a good game, but his 2013 season and preseason form says he will bounce back.

Trav Cloke could use some media reviewing of his Round 1 too.

(To be fair, maybe he got it. I just don't read the papers much any more)
