Yeah, no shit. We've got two picks in the top 60. We don't rate this draft as most clubs and draft watchers don't. Get ready to be disappointed.

The top 30 to 35 are ok after that it drops away fast, thats why the Eagles traded for multiple top 35 picks.

What did Norths trade in to keep their rebuild on track?

Now that is the definition of dissappointment!

Posted this on our board on here a few months ago and feel like it's worth posting here now:

Does everyone remember the draft two years ago and how we kept on hearing that it was "the worst in 10 or more years" and incredibly shallow, pretty much right up until the draft?

Less than two years on (so there will be more who will come out of it who aren't ready yet, because they're tall and developing, building their tank/had injuries etc) and all of the following came from that supposedly "very poor" draft:

C Oliver
J Weitering
C Mills
R Burton
D Parish
J Gresham
E Hipwood
J Hopper
J Schache
J Silvagni
M Kennedy
W Milera
C Curnow
D Rioli
T Phillips
M Adams
S Menegola
H Himmelberg
B Fiorini
C Ah Chee
J Dunkley
R Clarke
D Tucker
R Mathieson
H Balic
M Hartley
M Brown
R Bonner

Too early to tell because they're tall and/or had very poor endurance and will need another preseason or two:

A Francis
S Weideman
H McKay
B McKay
K Collins
B White

Etc.

Hopefully this year's draft is just as bad as that one looks to be!

Yeah our recent drafting has been average.

I just thinking reaching for Kelly and Ryan isn't smart. I think we should take the punt that Kelly and Ryan will be there at 26 and 37 at the least.

I fail to see how Ryan has gone from worse than Gorter to pick 26. I doubt any poster on here would be happy if their club used 26 on Ryan.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Why overlook Ryan in rookie draft last year (when the kid clearly has talent), and waste a pick on Gorter, and then decide the next year to take him in the 20s, when nothing has really changed with him since the year before? We knew he was highly talented and defensively poor last year, and he's still both these things now.

Bullshit. I'll make a bet with you that none of them will.

You reckon 1 will go outside of top 20?
I'll consider taking that bet, depends what is on the line?

There’s no logical basis for Spargo being taken inside 20.....yet I reckon he is the most likely of those 3 to go early

Well there is.

He was considered a potential #1 pick at the U/16’s level, was rated as highly as Cerra and Stephenson.

Injury has ruined his last 2 years, being out of the TAC Cup spotlight when he could of played as a 16 year old has added to that. He also hasn’t grown since back then.

The talent is still there, definitely enough to go in the top 25.

I’ve got him going at 28 in my Mock Draft

Charlie Spargo at 23, Patrick Naish at 27, Connor Ballenden at 32... having an absolute laugh, all will go top 20.

I want in on this as well.

Who's going to bid on Naish or Ballenden inside the top 20?

No one is going to Bid on Ballenden before pick 15. After pick 15, it's the Bulldogs and Richmond who the Lions traded favourably with during the trade period, and Gold Coast, and the two QLD clubs don't bid on each others academy kids.

Personally I have Melbourne bidding at Ballenden at 29, simply because Melbourne have form for such a thing. Twats.

Despite Twomey's ratings, Naish isn't a first round talent, and none of the clubs with later first round picks will bid on Naish. There's even a good chance Naish goes later than pick 23. If North don't bid at 23, Geelong won't due to Geelong and Richmond trading second and third round picks and will have a gentleman's agreement in place.

Spargo is small, and despite talent, small players always fall in the draft. Being out of sight due to injury won't have helped Spargo's draft stocks.

What's the weird part?

I imagine both Brisbane and Freemantle would have to look deeper than just pure talent when assessing possible draftees. I'm sure there has been articles written about this in the last couple of weeks.

Both Conole (Brisbane's head recruiter) and Fagan have publicly said it's down to two. With those two being Rayner and Brayshaw.

Fagan and Noble are said be in favour of drafting Brayshaw, while it's believed the recruiting team favour Rayner. No idea where Brisbane's list manager Dom Ambrogio stands.

What will be interesting from a Brisbane perspective is who wins the tug of war.

These are the posts on the Lions board that has driven much of the discussion since.

October 26th.

October 29th.

We can have some very animated discussions on the Brisbane board at times, particularly in regards to inside information, sources and rumours. This wasn't one of the those times. Other posters on the Brisbane board have said Len S's information is usually spot on.
One thing for sure is that we will find out who has the biggest say with recruiting. IMO the coach has to back his recruiting team to get it right,

I reckon it’s really weird.

e.g. Rayner (or Brayshaw) for #1, LDU (or Brayshaw) for #2, then Carlton and North pass on Brayshaw and he gets taken at #5.

Very strange.
Yes that made no logical sense to me either
