Re: End of 2011 list management

For christ sake.

If one more person says 'omgf it iz good as we gets bradlez!' I will go beserk.

Have any of you who post this rubbish, ever seen Brad play? Ever? Ever? Ever?

He is a spud spud spud. He has improved a heap this year ONLY because West Coast are not horrible. We are horrible, Brad would go back to his spudish ways with us.

The only reason people want Brad is because he has a nice last name and for some reason people seem to think we can build a club around the fact that we have a couple of Eberts playing for us.

God dammit.
Is he the type of player the crowd collectively sighs when he disposes it?

If so do not want :)

I don't mind giving Ebo one more year.

A full preseason in his knee might do him (and his confidence) the world of good. If it works great, if not too bad, we can always make a move on him next year.

With Mots almost certain to get the chop I also think it's worth keeping Ebo this year so that we have an extra small forward option as Hitchy, Phillips and Irons continue to develop.

Re: End of 2011 list management

Sure, why not?

It does when you're talking about rehiring someone's cousin to get them to maybe possibly work for you. Clubs without a creed would see that as ridiculous business practice; I mention the creed because it agrees on football grounds as well.

Or more usefully for front-loaded long term contracts for guys like Boak and Hartlett.

Note where WCE are then look were PA are

mmm i just wouldn't put the creed in my sales pitch

Yer thats also good

Why mock the Creed?

It's like a family shield.

It's there, its an ethos to work to. I don't mind it, I don't mind marketing with it. I don't get why knock it?

Would you prefer a line in the sand?

Re: End of 2011 list management

I think there are a few people with short memories about Ebert, he narrowly missed All-Australian selection a few years back. Saying all that some people say he should play more in the midfield but if he hits the piss and with his injuries he should go nowhere near the midfield until he's adequately fit to play the role. It would be interesting to know if his dad has put a bit of foot to ass.

I wouldn't advocate delisting him, but if it is any more than a one year contract it's yet another list management mistake.
In the spirit of avoiding negativity but being under a court order not to kick any more cats to death I'll go with this.

Re: End of 2011 list management

If Danny Meyer is still alive this is our second weirdest mystery of the year, nobody knows what's happened with mega head but it's probably a case of him not being good enough in general or tall enough to be a forward or both. I don't know why we'd keep him on but there are bigger problems with smaller heads that will probably stay on the list. Can he offer anything? Maybe if we have two big forwards playing consistently (Butcher and Schulz split packers) but even then we'll probably want to play people who are quicker.

As for his cousin at the Eagles we could do a lot worse, he's a decent little nugget. We'll probably end up bringing in worse... although I do have a feeling we'll have a decent trade period, scouting the right people and players and bringing in some needs.

Re: End of 2011 list management

Ebert was our best forward last year before he got injured
Surely Schulz was your best forward by a mile? He won your goal kicking from 15 games and Ebert only got injured in round 21. I watched Port last year and I thought Sarge definitely made a bigger impact on games

Re: End of 2011 list management

Couldn't care less about a draw card for Brad. Is Port Adelaide not enough?

I would hope his interest is in playing for the best Port Adelaide side, not just one with his cousin in it - if not, we don't need him. Read the creed.

Trade Brett to West Coast if its all about making happy families, they can go back to the Phinals Phil Matera forward setup and waste a few good years.
This is what we need to encourage

Players/coaches need to say they want to come to Port Adelaide, to stay at Port Adelaide

We must have pride in ourselves

for any other person to be proud of us .... to want to come to Port Adelaide

Re: End of 2011 list management

He was pretty good in 10. Pretty crap in 11. I've been saying for a while now that we were always going to keep one of ebert and motlop, and given that Mots looks likely to leave, then it opens the door for Ebert staying. Not saying I agree with it though.

jeez the way some people are talking every single player on our list should be out the door at the end of the year. brett deserves to stay at the club, simple as that. if we are going to only retain consistent performers/players with a truck load of "upside" our list next season will consist of about 4 or 5 blokes.

Not sure what to think.

Some games he looks really good taking pack marks, kicking goals from outside 50 and hitting targets in the forward 50. Next game, sure as anything he'll struggle to be involved and miss a couple of absolute sitters.

We have too many players like that, which makes list management very difficult. Seeing as he did miss just about all of pre-season, I can live with him getting an extra year.

Re: End of 2011 list management

Because if there's one thing we need next year, it's a 28 year old who struggles with injury and form and ruins our forward line structure, right?

Guys i think you need to remeber Port's draw card for Brad to come here is that Brett plays here...

I hope that is one of the main reasons we're signing him
That just makes it worse. Brad's a spud.

I wonder if I changed my last name to Ebert I could drafted by Port? Being AFL standard doesn't seem to be an issue to a lot of our supporters (or even the club itself) as long as your name is Ebert.

Asgardian said:
Anyone considered that he may not accept the offer and wants to try his luck elsewhere?
Hope so. But wherever Ebert actually ends up next year, this move has still affected my confidence in the club. Even if Ebert walks out on us, Port still made the decision that they want him and IMO that was a bad decision.

And Porthos, we're talking about a club who's drafted Colm Begley, Charlie Gardiner, Adam Pattison, Dean Polo and Ryan Gamble (plays the same position, could be delisted and replaced with Ebert?). I don't particularly rate him, but Ebert may as well be Gary Ablett Jnr compared to some of the spuds St. Kilda have brought in under Ross Lyon.

Totally would've won today if we had Ebert. No point giving his spot to a kid with all the extra wins he'll be earning us.
