Great player, had the biggest head I have ever seen.

I guess we'll never see another head measuring contest between him and Shaun Higgins.

Well done on a good career.

Funny Mega Head story.

My mate was at a photoshoot for the Footy Express bus service and Ebert and Chris Knights were part of the shoot, along with some fans. They line up for a group shot with everyone all smiles, enjoying a trip on the bus to the footy. Photographer lines up, then stops. Asks Ebert to move back a row on the bus. My mate asks the guy - "why'd ya do that, it looked good."

Photographer: "Because his f*cking head is too big. Have a look."

Mate reckons yep, wouldve looked comical on billboards and on the sides of buses.

Best of luck Mega.

Injury early on stopped him from being a full time midfielder and became Port's 3rd highest goalscorer.
Unfortunately his body didn't allow him to retire on his own terms. Well done and al the best for the future. :thumbsu:

EDIT: Funny how times change.:D

Put him in a Hawthorn lineup, and he is just a second rate pedestrian who wouldn't be able to get his hands on the ball

Good career, sometimes great but consistency was his issue. Never became the midfielder he could have been after he won the Magarey at 19. Probably the shortest KPP of all time.

Does every thread on BF have to end in a farce?

Well done Brett Ebert on a good career which could have been even better with fewer injuries and possibly more opportunities from your club. A really top bloke too.

Absolutely no issue with player retirement threads on the main board - Why? A number of reasons -

Firstly, I use Bigfooty as my primary source of footy news - I certainly don't read newspapers and the afl.com site is a joke that doesn't work that often

Secondly, I don't tend to go to other team boards, and if this thread was limited to Port's board, then there is a high likeliness that I would have completely missed the news that he had retired -

It's not as if it's a thread highlighting three spuds that got delisted - Ebert played 150+ games and his surname is synonymous with South Australian football...

Congrats Ebert on a good career (though, I must say, after not seeing him play this year at all, I thought he already had retired  )

i loved Ebert as a player. Watched him go through the Magpies and win the Magarey and thought he would be a gun at AFL level but for some reason Port thought he would be better as a small fwd.
I feel he would have been great through the midfield but didnt get the opportunity.

Decent career. Remember once one of his team mates predicted he'd kick 100 goals in a season. I LOLd.

But yeah handy career best of luck post footy.

Had a pretty awesome set of hands, booming kick and played a really unique role as basically a 178cm key forward. It was something long suggested on the Port board to see how he'd go as an inside midfielder given how compact and strong he was, but don't think he quite had the ability to get fit enough to do it because of injuries and his size.

I really don't get why people get upset by retirement threads on the main board - the guy played over 150 games, kicked 240 goals and developed a bit of a cult following so surely he had some impact at some stage on football supporters.
