I've heard around the traps that the dockers could be interested in bringing Brett Johnson home. If koops cannot be used as part of a trade to get Heath Black home, then this deal could be on the cards.

Freo:
Gain - Brett Johnson
Lose - Steven Koops

Hawthorn:
Gain - 3rd Round Pick (#42 overall) ontraded from the Eagles
Lose - Brett Johnson

Eagles:
Gain - Steven Koops
Lose - 3rd Round Pick (#42 overall)

Firstly, I don't really want to see Koopsy go, but it seems like he is already on the move. While Brett Johnson might be a good player, I would much rather get a player like Health Black as I'd see Johnson as being behind Schammer if he came back.

I don't rate Johnson. He wouldn't crack our 22 nor add a whole lot to our side.

If we were to lose Koops to the eagles I'd like to see us get someone like Callum Chambers. He'd be more value than Johnson.

I honestly wouldn't mind trading for Johnson, however I'd prefer Heath Black. I also doubt we'd need to trade Koops for Johnson as I'd expect a second round pick for a player of his ability.

We'd more likely be required to give up our fourth rounder and a player such as Siegert for Johnson. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind trading Croad for Brett Johnson and their second round pick, as well as paying a fair chunk of his salary next season since Johnson won't cost us anything.

He had a great finals series with Hawthorn in 2000 and had a good 2001 season, but has fallen out of favour since. He isn't lightning quick but has clean hands in close, a strong upper body and a fairly reliable left foot kick, although it isn't very penetrating and he isn't capable of doing much with his right.

He also has a good work rate, with his tackling and second efforts unquestionable and doesn't mind laying physical pressure on his opponents. He may well be another in-and-under midfielder we need.

Yeh thats what I thought too, I would expect a second round pick for Koops, but judging from previous trade history, the Eagles are a bit stingy. I see our requirements as being:

1) Inside Midfielder
2) Key Forward in the mould of Kent Kingsley
3) Local players as the talent pool from WA is pretty good this year.

Kent Kingsley? No thanks.

We wouldn't need to trade Koops to get Johnson, we could get him for a pretty late pick. He could develop into a good player so it's worth a go. Hasn't really had the chances at Hawthorn.
