Re: Respect for brett ratten

It is simple Numbers -
1. If near the pill - get it
2. If not near pill and forward of ball provide an option
3. If not near pill and behind ball wear your man
4. When you get pill give it to one of our blokes if you cannot kick a goal
:)
I just wish we could add
when in doubt go the knuckle
back to cave Jane

Re: Respect for brett ratten

yeah youre right and he got dropped for the final v sydney and dont give me any crap about being injured the only injury concern from round 22 was carrazzo and he got up, grigg even got 3 votes in the b&f for hisround 22 game

I thought you told us he was getting dropped after one game. So what was it? Was he getting dropped after one game or did you just make that up?

No it didn't happen all that often. If you have a look at 2009 he played 2 games in a row (Round 3-4), 7 games in a row (Round 11-17) & then was brought back in for the elimination final. In 2008 he played 20 out of 22 games. There is no evidence that he was dropped "plenty of times" after playing only 1 game.

As to why he did not play in the 2010 Elimination Final, that I don't know, but if he has walked after that, he goes into the Troy Bond group of squealers.

Re: Time to go Ratts

Got to love his game plan....

Long bombs to Eddie Betts against two or three taller opponents. Opposition win the ball deep in our forward line.

We now press up to retain the ball in our forward line. Opposition get numbers back to congest.

Opposition eventually clear the ball and have their quickest players out the back of our press.

Opposition run into open forward line.

Re: Time to go Ratts

Q. Would any other club take up on rattans services as a senior coach???

A. No. Then why do we..

Re: Time to go Ratts

I really can't see how we can persist with a coach who loses games at the selection table and doesn't appear to be learning on the job. He's had a good chance but now he needs a handshake and goodbye.

I cannot recall one game that he has won due to a tactical change.

Re: Time to go Ratts

We're done for this year for sure!.
He and Sticks said top 4 or bust!.
So regardless of what any of us say,I imagine that means his job?!.
Whether or not you are a fan of Ratts is pointless now as it is blatantly obvious to all that something is catergorically 'wrong' in the coaching department.
Our injuries have definitely unsettled the structures, but as many others have said,it has'nt troubled WC,Collingwood,Essendon etc..
Is this a problem with depth, plan B,confidence or something else we can't quite see or touch?!.
Because those first few issues normally would be laid fairly and squarely at the feet of the coach and staff.
It was a sad and sorry state of affairs last night and the preceding losses in particular the St.Kilda one.
To believe as a club you have gone past another team only to be shown up on field and the coaches box just pains the old blue blood that courses through the veins.
I have given up caring about this year as we 'will not' have any impact on September at all,and will most likely cheer the Tiges on for my long suffering mates, whom totally deserve their current golden patch.
I'm not calling for anyones head but it's time now that the current administration begin looking at their plan B,because as a club you can't continue to carry anyone regardless of history or not.
We should be firmly planted in the top 4 yet we are likely to plummet out of the 8 with no chance of clawing back in!.
With the list we have its time for those with the real power to administer 'FOR THE FUTURE' and not for the 'Smells we are cooking up' or blah empty blah sloganism!!.
I'm over the endeavour regardless of whom plays or coaches!.
Sadness fills our pointless season now with the Cats and WC to come "OUCH''.
17 looks a long long ways away:thumbsd:.:(:(:(

Re: Time to go Ratts

Coaching history :

1 year as an assistant coach at ....... melbourne !

Senior coach at norwood ..... 2nd division EFL at the time !

Appointed senior coach of Carlton by his mate from NO shortlist of other canditates !

Given 2 contract extensions by his mate !

Ignore our problem , put our head in the sand , use injuries as an excuse , hope it goes away ????

Or be honest with ourselves , face our problem .... and do what has to be done !

Watching essendon and richmond address thier problems and move forward while we flounder along blindly hurts the most !

We wait and watch ...........

Re: Time to go Ratts

I've always liked Ratts too, but something is really wrong. Even our senior and most dependable players are looking like putting half hearted efforts in... it's just crazy how bad we look out there.

Re: Time to go Ratts

Is Ratts one of our Blue brothers??? Yes!
Should we bagging him out? No!
Does he now need to stand up and acknowledge he can't go any further and it's time to bring in an expert coach to give us a chance at 17? Yes

Enough is enough!

Re: Time to go Ratts

How many times has he been tactically smashed by another coach? happens so often its not funny. Great coach if you just want to win A final...if you want to progress further you need someone better.

Re: Time to go Ratts

I'll admit I've never particularly been a Ratten fan but generally resisted calls for his departure.

I think I've posted on here before that whenvere I watch Carlton, compared to some other teams (even GWS), we never looked 'well drilled'. And this leas me to my point about Ratts.

Several weeks ago when discussing the Swans, Grant Thomas was asked how they continue to recruit and develop good young players. He made the point that, whilst they aren't bursting with talent, they are so well coached that you take virtually any player and slot him into the Swans team and they will do well because they know their role and have the discipline to follow it through.

Collingwood are similar. Yes, some more talent than us, but for the last few years the reason they have done well with injured players out is that they can replace Player 14 on the list with Player 26 who knows the role and the impact is minimal.

Carlton do not seem to be able to that !

The issue, in today's football its a given that by mid-year you are going to have 5-7 players lost to injury. It's the role of a modern coach to have a structure that can cope with that.

I don't see this happening with Ratten - we just seem to fall apart.

who would have been your ins/outs from the game last night that would have gotten us the win? JR? TBird? Sugar?

Has been happening for years, the guy has no plan or strategy, its not like this is the first time he has been found out and that too by a rookie coach says it all. We have no game plan, but what we do have is a bunch of seagulls and a coach who continues to pick players on names and reputations, players know there will be no repercussions, the MC has instilled this in the team, play like shit but dont worry we will pick you no matter what.

Re: Time to go Ratts

OP - regardless of how much you want a headline, this all belongs in the other thread

Re: Respect for brett ratten

If Ratts can make them all into angry pricks who have a bit of pride this week - I will give him a reprieve (make them all shave their heads :D)

But I don't see how we will win without a strategy. One positive is that I don't know that Geelong will play the crowded game that has been bringing us undone

Re: Respect for brett ratten

Sack him now and stop wasting time!

6 years of this mumbling stumbling nonce, wasted years, all 6 of them.

Sack him now, Sticks goes as well, clean out time and start afresh.

Every week with this nonce is 1 more wasted week.
