Just had a look on the demons board, and they had it.

It's worth a watch, I guess as a Blues fan you'd know better if that kind of desire etc is around the place

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video...33/default.aspx#playvideo#playvideo#playvideo

Thanks Sainter, unfortunately I am a deaf bastard and even using my hearing loop, all that background noise/music meant I could not pick up much of what he said but I think the video gave me the gist of it

Maybe someone might post some of his memorable comments

Cheers :thumbsu:

Leigh Matthews over Malthouse or Roos. Best brain in football and does not tolerate softness in any shape or form.
Travis Johnstone was an animal.

Matthews created Akermanis by tolerating his handstands and antics whilst they were winning. Jumped off once the Lions dropped off as contenders.

is this still a brett ratten thread ?

and do we think ratten will do the right thing by the club and walk away in the next week or so to give somebody new half a season to get things right before we can launch a real premiership campaign in 2013

forget injuries - there is simply no passion or head over the ball and you dont need skill to have these attributes

Ratten must go - simple

Agree, as much as it pains me to say. I know there are injuries but we have had a settled team last year so there is no reason for the blokes in there to not show 100% commitment especially when there are injuries. Questions need to be asked about the core senior group by the coaches, if they have been asked there has been no response. then the coaches time is up.

If anyone else disagrees then ask your self 1 question. Can the Carlton football club win a premiership with ratten as head coach. not can we make finals, not can win a final but can we win a premiership. gradual progress and consistent finals results in a grand final and a premiership crack. ie, collingwood, stkilda, geelong. western bulldogs came close.

If the answer for you is no for you, then ratten must go.

The thing with this email is that he's not telling us anything we can't deduce by watching the game.
I think after watching the game it is all pretty obvious what we can deduce. Were you expecting him to let slip that Judd played with a boken femur?

Ratten must go? What pussies! We need to make a statement! He is guilty, very guilty indeed! Off with his head I say!

Injuries are NO excuse for lack of intensity and effort, especially from the "senior" playing group. Simpson, Gibbs & Garlett have been MIA when the club need them to step up.

Look at all the other teams who have had to deal with massive injuries mounting up. WC have almost their entire forward line out ffs, Collingwood have been missing key players all year, same deal with Essendon, yet they have still been able to win matches or at the very least be competitive for the most part. We haven't even been competitive for the better part of the past month.

The stats don't lie, we've been getting beaten in clearances and contested possessions which is a CLEAR indication that other sides are playing against us with more hunger for the contest.

Sorry, but Ratten HAS to be held responsible for that, it is his job afterall to motivate the playing group each week. We have been poor in CL and CP for the past 6 weeks. That's FAR too long to put it to a slip up.

Gibbs has the ability to step up and have an impact on games and yet he has been almost non existent in terms of the impact he's had on games. STILL Ratts' continues to select him when it is CLEAR that he should be providing much more than what he has. He will never be dropped and has been spoonfed from day one, his selection in the side is automatic. Ok fine, you don't want to drop him, then TRY PLAYING HIM SOMEWHERE ELSE! Give him a new role that can motivate him to lift his intensity. Play him in the middle and tell him to WIN THE BALL YOURSELF!!! Let him rest up forward where he has PROVEN he is capable of being a goal scoring midfielder. That's what we need.

Simpson has started like a house on fire and then been completely nullified. That is not good enough from a senior player who is supposed to be a leader at this club. If the ball isn't being dished out to him he has gone missing. Answer to this: WIN THE BALL YOURSELF!!! And don't skii downhill all the damn time, put some ****ing pressure on the opposition ball carriers instead of letting them stand free.

Garlett may as well have been flying a kite on the field for the past month. For someone with so much pace why can't he give his opponents the slip and score some goals on the run like he used to? Answer: He doesn't give a **** because his selection has become automatic.

When the going gets tough, these players go missing and they are CRUCIAL to our performance when we don't have Carrots and Murph playing. By making their selection autmoatic no matter how poorly they perform and how many times they shirk a contest you are sending the WRONG MESSAGE TO THE ENTIRE LIST! Their spots should not be safe after performances like the ones they are delivering. If he had the balls to drop them the first time it was evident that they were playing like they didn't give a ****, then that would've set the tone for what's expected, but instead he persisted with them, hoping they would magically turn it all around and they haven't. Now our list is so depleted by injuries that we simply can't afford to drop them which means we'll be watching these sub par performances for a few weeks to come.

Also, it's time to sack the players that aren't up to it, it should be obvious now that Russell, Bower, Joseph and Curnow are not up to it. They MUST be delisted at the end of the season because they will most certainly NOT take us forward and they are rubbish depth players as well. Cannot perform under pressure at all.

I can assure you that if this Carlton team don't give it their all in the next few weeks despite injuries and excuses, then Ratten will no longer be the coach and nor should he.

Hi, hope you don't mind some outside perspective.

As I just posted on the mainboard, I thought it interesting that your two highest 1% getters v Port were Watson and Bootsma. This stat is one that (IMO) shows those willing to go above and beyond, that are willing to lay that bump or provide a shepherd.

Did anyone watch the clip on James Magner from the Demons and what he does every day to play footy, and his comments about seeing some guys 'just happy to be AFL footballers'

Feel like the spotlight is pointing in the wrong direction, taking the next step has to come from your core group of players actually wanting to be something, achieve something?

People bag the Saints a fair bit, sure they ulimately fell short. However the core group of players that remain got themselves together back in the day of their own accord, and made a pact that they would stay together to try and achieve something.

You'd love to hear news out of Carlton that the playing group have taken some form of responsibility?

Not convinced even Leigh Matthews could coach them to a premiership unless some of your guys that have been in the system awhile now, want to win one?

Not trying to belittle your footy team or anything, just reckon Ratten is the wrong target.

I reckon he should make a statement and drop a big name, and I'd start with one who is consistently low in both the 1% and tackle catergory.

You pretty much nailed it. People saying its part of Ratts job to motivate players, partly true. Its also part of his job to move players on that cant be motivated enough to get us to the next stage.

But you cant sack a dozen players all at once. And we have a dozen senior players not wanting or not having enough desire, players that hitherto were performing.

Some of our players are downhill skiers, a fact that would not be so much of an issue if we had a good run with injuries. But when the skiers are all that is left and required to do the grunt work they dont have it in them.

As someone pointed out, Watson (maligned by some posters as soft pre game) and Boots had the most 1% ers for the game.

We just have to wait it out and this slump will turn itself around. I dont buy this idea that "other teams have worked us out", the way to beat any team is to deny them time and space, it has ever been thus, and we were using it to good effect last year at times and for the first 3 rounds this year. We will again.

Thinking Brett and the club are not quite so welcoming of the pressure to make top four at the moment. Pretty silly statement by both he, the club and a few of the players at the time. Didn't leave them anywhere to go.

The Carlton list is an extemely talented one. Ratten however is not the man to harness it. Carl can win the flag in 2013 with malthouse at the helm. Or they can waste another year with ratten taking them nowhere

Be interesting to see where the players are on the progressive overload training regime right now. If they are in a peak training month, that would explain why it appears they lack effort. I assume they base this around the fixture and may have expected to be in a less demanding month.

I think we need to wait for seasons end to really understand how far we have come or gone backwards.

I dont have an issue with stating your goals. We finished just outside the top 4 last year by less than a goal, with 3 or 4 of our better players out (Kruze, Gibbs, Waite, Hammer). So we fell short by a whisker, obvious next step was alway a top 4 finish. So not silly at all. What was your expectation? If you finish 5th then surely your next goal is 4th or better. Why do you think its silly to articulate your goals? Surely if you want to measure your progress you want the yardstick by which you will be measured to be well known by all?

Afl 360 spot on blues have the talent they don't have structure or game plan.

Unfortunately a fair chunk of that talent is sitting on the sidelines. While the blind anger and wrist slashing makes for an easy scapegoat, hopefully the footy club is looking at this more rationally.

Yes, the effort of the players is disappointing. But Carrazzo, Murphy, Waite, Laidler, Henderson and Kreuzer aren't easy players to replace. Especially when you factor in our depth players in Thornton and Duigan are also out injured, while Mitchell is just working himself into fitness.

Doesn't get any easier with Scotland set to miss weeks.
