Re: Respect for brett ratten

i had no idea there was even such a thing, until it was mentioned somewhere that paul williams was our clearance coach. does there come a point where it is all too complicated? too many cooks, etc etc? the more assistants you hire, the more you rely on their interconnectedness and that they work together well too. clearance coaching makes me think of ross lyon coaching the football instinct out of players.

I think there is a cream for that- let me see and get back to you

Re: Respect for brett ratten

not sure ratten is the problem. I'd be looking closely at who is under him and I would be looking at who is in charge of the areas we are falling down in.

Where we have failed are...

Recruiting. We have recruited a heap of players with poor body types and soft attitudes. We haven't taken strong players with early draft picks and wasted early picks in trades. Huges has been responsible for this. Really loved how Silvagni has recruited for GWS.

The midfield. Underachieving rabble coached by Mark Riley and Paul Williams.

Alan Richardson, was he ever at a club that was successful while he was there?

Luke Webster, how are our players developing? I'd say poorly, especially our talls. Guys that have been on the list or two have stopped improving or have gone nowhere. Our talls, Especially Kreuzer have a ton of flaws like marking issues that are not improving at all.

Justin Cordy and Joel Hocking are responsible for our strength and conditioning. Strength, something we don't have and our condition is not up to aussie rules football. Our strength and size is the joke of the competition. Stuart Livingston is our weights coach, time he earned his keep and we saw some results because he has failed and failed miserably.

Our forward line is dysfunctional in nearly every way and is being coached by Jon Barker who in all his time coaching has achieved nothing more than mediocre results.

Carlton need to have a good look at who they have in the departments of the areas that are failing. It's so bloody clear!

That means Jon Barker, Mark Riley, Paul Williams, Wayne Hughes, Alan Richardson, Luke Webster, Justin Cordy, Joel Hocking and Stuart Livingston are the ones who probably need to go. When will we start picking staff that have had previous success and proven results?

Carlton should go on a poaching binge from other clubs.

Matthew Scarlett is likely to retire and we should go all out to get him as assistant coach. Players from the Geelong era will be members of the next group of great coaches and Scarlett has been credited for making a lot of the moves that helped them to glory, not to mention being a champion player.

Proven successful coach Mick Malthouse isn't coaching anywhere and it would be crazy to chose Ratten over him. It would be beyond crazy not to profit from Collingwood's stupidity.

Steve Silvagni has recruited the types of players for GWS that we are desperate for and has achieved great results with other clubs at what ever he has done. Geelong and Collingwood have the best recruiters in the league, especially Geelong. The Swans and WCE's arent far off the mark with recruiting either.

Who ever is doing strength and conditioning at Adelaid, WCE's, Geelong and Essendon are the best there is, compared to ours who are the worst of the worst.

Mark Riely is coaching the midfield and our midfield is as poor as any going around. Paul Williams is in charge of midfield stoppages, enough said.

If we are serious, we go for the best available and start the cull from our second rate off field staff. We start by sacking the people who are responsible for the areas that are failing and then we go after the best we can get.

Re: Respect for brett ratten

Ratten made big promises at the start of the season and hasn't delivered, writing is on the wall whenever this happens. However my biggest issue with Ratten is that he does not seem to be able to get a consistent effort out of our players each week.

I believe the only thing that will save Ratten now is the lack of a better option. We should all say a quiet prayer tonight and hope Jeannie Pratt writes a huge cheque with Paul Roos name on it.

It may come bundled with one for Fev. :D

Chuck that Prendergast bloke in too, opposition analysis my arse.

Really Don't see why we've hung onto Riley for so long, and still baffled we gave barker Employment.

Watching Rattens presser after the game, one word is mentioned a couple of times, pressure. It is obvious opposition teams have worked us out. Apply pressure to Carlton's ball movers and see them turn it over. This has been apparent since the Essendon game. Only GWS and Melbourne didn't have the better skills to take advantage of it.

SO here's the thing. I have seen a few posters on here saying we should stick with Ratts. It isn't his fault, we have injuries etc.. Ok, fair point. But in the last 6-7 weeks there has been this worrying trend. Why has Ratts and the rest of the coaching staff been unable to fix this up? I mean, nothing Saturday night makes me think we have any answers. It just means, till we do, we can expect more of the same.

For the record, i hope we can turn it around. And a fired up Blues team can hit back hard at the Cats on friday night. With the other results on the weekend, we are only 2 games off top spot. So, im hoping we can work out how to combat opposition teams strategy of putting our ball handlers under pressure.

Leigh Matthews over Malthouse or Roos. Best brain in football and does not tolerate softness in any shape or form.

malthouse and matthews are retired and past it. Throw the cheque book at thompson. Look what he did at essendon.

Serious? You seriously think Thompson would come to Carlton?

He'd be shot by Bomber fans before he made it past Royal Parade FFS. Thats assuming he'd want to come on his own accord (which is very bloody unlikely IMO).

No chance, You'd have more chance of landing Roos......and thats not gonna happen.

Anyway, bit early to be talking like this.

Malthouse for sure.

Tell me he wouldnt come out of retirement for a big fat visy paycheck!?

We need someone scary who can walk into that place and go

"RIGHT ladies. 2 things to start off with. Everyone with a shit haircut gets its shaved today. And that stupid bloody exploding handshake goal celebration...well if I see that again you'll be playing in the 2's for the rest of your contract."

Why would he refer to them as ladies?

WTF??? Tommy Alvin would never get a game under the skinhead regime proposed herein. :(

Hairstyles, colour of boots and celebrating a goal have zero impact on a team's performance. If you honestly believe otherwise, jump off the bandwagon right now.

What about the Doormat. :eek::eek:

He wouldn't get a look in.

is that a real question?

Rhetorical I'd say. Probably no need for a professional coach to walk in and belittle the players to sate disgruntled supporters.

Guarantee this wouldn't happen.

Hi, hope you don't mind some outside perspective.

As I just posted on the mainboard, I thought it interesting that your two highest 1% getters v Port were Watson and Bootsma. This stat is one that (IMO) shows those willing to go above and beyond, that are willing to lay that bump or provide a shepherd.

Did anyone watch the clip on James Magner from the Demons and what he does every day to play footy, and his comments about seeing some guys 'just happy to be AFL footballers'

Feel like the spotlight is pointing in the wrong direction, taking the next step has to come from your core group of players actually wanting to be something, achieve something?

People bag the Saints a fair bit, sure they ulimately fell short. However the core group of players that remain got themselves together back in the day of their own accord, and made a pact that they would stay together to try and achieve something.

You'd love to hear news out of Carlton that the playing group have taken some form of responsibility?

Not convinced even Leigh Matthews could coach them to a premiership unless some of your guys that have been in the system awhile now, want to win one?

Not trying to belittle your footy team or anything, just reckon Ratten is the wrong target.

I reckon he should make a statement and drop a big name, and I'd start with one who is consistently low in both the 1% and tackle catergory.

ps Not intruding
