Opinion Brian Cook - Carlton's rebuild still has a fair way to go

Which club is more likely to win another flag first?

What happened to the Camporeale brothers? Seems a few years ago they were talked up as the equivalent of the Daicos brothers now they don't even play
A few years ago they were 15-16 years old...

It's also their first year of AFL in 2025. They were 3rd round picks. No rush with them at all.

Both were projected later picks, with 1 being on the fence about being picked at all.

Daicos of the Nick variety was projected top 5 since birth.

OK, I didn't know that, for some reason I thought they were both top 10 picks. I seem to recall some whining threads about father son saying it a long time ago

Rome wasn't built in a day.
Cook has only been at Carlton for three years, he needs time to turn the club around.
Yes, a quality rebuild takes time.

sustained success needs time to develop, and a lot to come together concurrently.

It’s tracking along ok

If Brian Cook said that Carlton's rebuild wasn't complete when he arrived at Carlton in 2021, does that mean they've been in a rebuild these past four years?

I recently stated that Carlton need to start a rebuild, but how can they start a new one when they are yet to finish the current one?

It'll be interesting to see what Graham Wright does after he arrives at Carlton, he played a big part in fixing the salary cap issues at Collingwood and everyone knows about the salary cap issues at Carlton.

What are these salary cap issues you speak of?

Aren't we offering Tom De Koning 1.1 million to stay?

and had $900k to offer Dan Houston last year and were reportedly in the Chad Warner talks, that Carlton has salary cap troubles is a myth. We have plenty of issues with our list but salary cap isnt one of them.

Not “troubles” as such but a few players locked away on massive deals that seem disinterested at the moment
Sounds more like a coaching/player issue than list management, but yes we have a handful of highly paid assets who are under performing hence our ladder position.

We will lose TDK, Docherty & McGovern at seasons end who all would be currently on $6-700k Walsh is out of contract next year but is already highly paid and hard to see that increasing on current form/injuries.

Our main issue will be attracting free agents or DFAs if they think we are 5 years away from competing. Graham Wright will need to quickly sell a vision to prospective players and to our fans who have been disillusioned since this Richmond loss.

Mercenaries such as Williams, McGovern, Saad, Acres and Cerra are taking up a large portion of Carlton's salary cap, it's resulted in Carlton being hamstrung in recent years when it comes to trying to improve their list. Carlton have a culture where players don't bleed for the club and are only there because Carlton were willing to offer a bigger paycheck than any other club, this culture stems back to Judd being made captain as soon as he arrived at Carlton despite him being a mercenary who never loved the club.

Judd's time at Carlton was a success for Judd but a failure for the Carlton Football Club.

There is zero evidence that Acres or Cerra were ever on anything crazy. Acres was brought across for 350K a year and Cerra was offered more to stay at Fremantle than what Carlton offered. Doubt his salary would have increased much with his last contract given the injury issues. McGovern is also under a new contract which would have a far lesser salary associated with it.

The rest is pure conjecture. No one was criticising the group's commitment to the cause when they won 9 of their last 10 H+A games and then two finals in 2023 to make the first PF this club has been in in 20+ years or when they were sitting clear 2nd on the ladder mid last season. And not sure which players you are referring to who are only at Carlton because they offered more money than other clubs.

Mercenaries like Cerra? He's 25 years old lmao

McGovern's no longer on big money as his contract ended. Williams in the last year of his contract. Saad been a bloody good player and worth every cent of the money we paid him. Acres literally never been reported to be on big money, allegedly came over for 350k a year which was massive unders at the time.

No offense but I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about on the subject.

All were heavily front loaded as well.

The Big Footy fat armchair salary cap experts that are over 40yrs old still living in Grans basement with a laptop is quite evident in this thread!

Maybe they can enquire to the club about future employment roles as they know everything on social media platforms! 🫣😅

Blues are still hamstrung by giving out big money to Daisy Thomas. Won't be able to afford any Free Agents this off season because of it!

I heard we are also still paying Jack Martin 3 million a season to play for the Cats this year!

😂

So we are so shit according to posters but yet still have no cap space????? Hmmmmmm.

Cap space is the last of our issues and coaching is what is letting us down. Voss has lost the playing group.

he's the only one of you that is realistic.

anyone posting that the coaching is what has carlton struggling has nfi
Why did you sack Voss then?
