Had one goal kicked on him in the first 4 rounds of 2006, and regularly takes the no1 defender in a side that plays a free-flowing, high scoring style of football.

Thats an impressive effort when you play full back

Not an overly difficult task when the ball doesn't come down that end, Richmond played really well in Rd 1 didn't they, Harris was really tested. Thornton has very little support from the midfield and the rest of his defense and still breaks even or beats opponents most weeks. That's probably what he's done to deserve to be compared.

... but lack of key defenders at the Blues and Bulldogs means the two are required to be number one defenders.

Newsflash. The Blues no longer lack KP defenders like they have in the past. Last year Setanta at 200cm and 100kg+, and Bower 194cm and 95kg helped out Thornton 192cm. We also have Hartlett 196cm, Flint 192cm, and Austin 194cm who will be introduced this year. Walker and Russell also rotate of HB flank, providing explosive pace and rebound. So plenty of height, pace and talent in the defensive half. We've kinda left the Bulldogs miles behind here. A weakness is fast transforming into a strength. :)

Depends which Harris turns up on any given week. On his day, he is as brilliant a full back as there currently is. Problem is he can be as bad as anyone other weeks. Thornton would be more consistent.
