I'm to young to remember much about him... i just remember some bloke with a mo running around for Collingwood. As physically he is not an ideal role model for our youngsters
frown.gif
, I thought we would be employing him based on footy smarts.... but then I think back to MMM this year.... enough said!

We've sacked Minton- Connell.... who BTW, I was very impressed with when I heard him interviewed during the year. He was a smart player... had stints with four different coaches/clubs/tactics.... still young and could identify with the lads... fit.... just couldn't take an overhead mark
biggrin.gif
.... which he isn't there to teach anyway....

Now I don't know much about our coaching structure and personele, but surely someone else would have been more appropriate. If anyone disagrees, let me assure you that I am saying this based on ... cold hard ignorance! If any Tiger/Magpie (or anyone that knows) fans stumble across this... how good was he??... was he coaching last year??.. is he worth it?? is he as stupid as he sounds??... has he still got a job at triple M... or channel 9 if they get the TV rights??... are these questions relevant??

WESTY - BT probably will still work on MMM and Ch 9.Doug Hawkins is a skills coach at Richmond [I'll bet you didn't know Richmond had skills]and he still has all his media jobs.

I think BT coached Prahan about 8 years ago.
He coaches one of the top private college teams.

Westy Boy,

I'm not sure what value BT will be for the Doggies and it is a surprising that we would
add him to the coaching structure.
BT was best known for having an almighty run in with his coach Leigh Matthews many years
ago and pulling a door off its hinges.
Couldn't kick straight when it counted either
and I saw him kick about 5 points from set shots out at Waverley one year that cost
Collingwood the game.( Perhaps we owe him one from that game ).
Would have been far better to have a look at Quinlan or someone else from my point of view.

Shinners, he also took the Prahan to the bankruptcy courts!

Im pretty sure that Wallace and BT are good friends in real life, maybe someone else can confirm this? Anyway, im no great fan of the big bugger. Very healthy ego has BT and if anyone meets him they will know what i mean. Strikes me more as a do as i say, not do as i do type.

Agree with whoever it was that said get Quinlan down to the Doggies. Now there was a player!!

Obviously the accountants at Carey kept BT well away from the school's cheque book
wink.gif

As for Quinlan, a great player, but maybe any coaching aspirations he had are now tainted by his time coaching Fitzroy. The Dyson Hore-Lacy book, while trying to be kind to the Fitzroy legend, made it clear that Superboot would never make good coaching material (even as a specialist goal kicking coach).

THEY GOT RID OF SIMON MINTON-CONNELL???????
Being a Doggie supporter I probably should have known this, but I'm in shock. I think he was a great coach who showed lots of capability and future potential. Westy, do you know what he's going to do now?

What happened to SIMON MINTON-CONNELL, did he leave or was he pushed? If you look at our kicking, it has never been better!

BT is a tub of lard and couldn't even kick straight.

Bad decision !!

hmmm... a violent, egotistical, corrupt fat lard who can't kick straight when it counts, who will continue with media commitments, who lifts previously poor sides into premiership combinations, and has been known to have run ins with senior coaches but is friends with Wallace.

Perfect!!! Wouldn't want to have a compicated personality around the club
rolleyes.gif

Teddy- He'll probably be kicking 18 goals a game in the Essendon amatuer thirds comp like last year
biggrin.gif
.

DTR- Firstly Welcome! Stay around, all these rival fans are trying to steal our supporters. In answer to your question, I don't know whether we was pushed, i made the assumption that he was sacked (perhaps wrongly). And I totally agree with you, our set shot kicking this year (esp. Grant and Bartlett) was a phenomenal improvement.

JubJub- From reports, Dougie may not have either of those positions next year. But despite the "not knowing that Richmond had skills" comment
biggrin.gif
, players like the Kellaways (and a lot of the others at the club) were all praise for him, and IMO, his influence showed in their form. I think he wants to move into an assistant role.

GEP- a run in with Matthews (as a coach ok Grendel
wink.gif
) is a good thing!!
biggrin.gif
.... and I agree, i don't know whether he'll fit into our structure, and that example you provided of his kicking just goes to show how mystifying this decisions seems.

Grendel- Thanks for the bankruptsy tip- ... that's all we need... we're on the ropes as it is, without BT giving us a helping hand.... I'll ring the club tomorrow lol

Shinners- Carey, premierships and winning the ball just don't belong in the same sentence
wink.gif
Cheers for the info, at least it's not all doom and gloom lol.

Well as always when there is a decision that the club makes that I dont like i hope i am proved wrong-but BRIAN TAYLOR??????????? If Minton-Connell had to go then surely we could have found someone who had played the game in the last few years. Maybe someone like Brownless(calmly went back and popped it through from 50 out with a few seconds to go in that final against us a few years ago) Ablett(not a bad kick himself) Dunstall(he and Wallace are mates) The list is endless. My main memory of Taylor is him heroically king hitting Terry Wheeler from behind in '83.

I never liked Taylor much when he was a player. I used to call him Meathead. However I feel his commentary during our 2016 prelim victory provided the right energy level. We all know he can go over the top at times in the commentary booth.

One of my favourite moments of that game was when he had the good grace to hand over the mic to Luke Darcy for the final moments of that game.

"...the bulldogs are in the grand final. The bulldogs are in the grand final. Can you believe it!!!?"

Having said that BT's level of buffoonery is much better suited to the testosterone fuelled idiocy of MMM than TV or indeed as a specialist forwards coach.
